My friend ordered curry chicken and specified "not spicey", but what he got was very spicey, so we asked the waiter to do something, all they did was add some water and curry became so liquid, for my friend it was a terrible experience. For me I got the Rendang and it was very good.

There was only one waiter serving entire restaurant on our visit (Wednesday), but he was efficient. It was the kitchen that was slow. We waited at least 30 mins between appetizer and mains. The nyonya chicken curry was a winner. The beef rendang was also very good. The vegetable curry did not taste like curry, although the ingredients were cooked just right i.e. crunchy. The peanut sauce accompanying the satay could be spicier. Good sharing dishes. No Ontario wines on their wine list.

We there during Summerlicious - apparently many new staff that had not yet been trained. Very poor/disorganized service. Had lost our reservation. Waited 50 minutes for our first lunch course. The food was their saving grace: interesting asian/indian fusion.

This is one of those restaurants in a quaint neighbourhood (Baldwin Street) that one would not normally go to, except during Summerlicious. The food is an eclectic mix of Indian and South-east Asian. The Prawn Curry was spicy hot; the Short Ribs - although cooked well - were bland. The Mango Salad was ordinary but the dessert choices were exotic and delicous. Not a hot spot on Baldwin, but definitely worth a try if you are feeling adventurous.

4 of us had dinner on the patio, it took them forever to serve us. Took about 15 mins to ask us for drinks, took longer for them to come back again to ask us what we wanted to eat. No follow up of any kind, had to really try to get their attention for service of any kind, even then it didn't really happen. Hopefully the dining room was better service for people.

This place has fantastic Malaysian food. Just thinking of the excellent meal we had there is making my mouth water!! We both had the Nasi Lemak, with fantastic fluffy Roti and a delicious Chicken churry. The coconut rice that comes with the Nasi Lemak was super delicious, as were the Achar (pickled vegetables). I can't wait to go back and try the beef rendang - the table next door to us ordered this, and they loved it. This restaurant is a great find and we can't wait to go back!!

Dear Open Table, We had a most unfortunate experience at lunch. We ordered at 12 10 pm. One hour later, we did not have our meals. My guest is 6 months pregnant - she asked for something to nibble on - but no service even with this request. We finally told them at 115pm, that we would need take out. At that point, the entrees arrived. They were obviously short staffed that day and I think the owner who took the order forgot to put it in... There was no apology or anything. I do like the food there, but given the embarrassment will not go back for a very long time. I have also let my U of T colleagues know that they must avoid this place at lunch.

I have been eating here a couple of times a year for a few years now and have never once had a bad experience. The staff is attentive, but do not hover around the table. The lighting is soft and the decor is interesting, but it all stays in the background letting you focus on the meal. I don't drink, so I can't comment on the wine list, but the menu has a wide selection for different palates and dietary obligations. Malaysian food is savoury and you can select your "hottness" level if you want spicy. The prices are reasonable for sure and it's easy to have a nice meal for two with appetizers and a bottle of sparkling water for about $50.

My friends and I picked to eat here during Winterlicious this year specifically because none of us had ever tried Malaysian food. The menu itself was mouth-watering with a variety of choices made with an interesting fusion of ingredients. We ordered 3 out of the 4 choices for the apps, entrees and dessert. We were a table of 3 so we figured doing this would allow us to try almost everything. The entire selection was amazing! My only disappointment was how tiny the servings were for their appetizers (specifically the spring rolls-- it was only 2 small pieces). The beef ribs were to die for, they were tender and the coconut milk addition was fantastic. That was our favourite among the entrees and for dessert, the pandan crepe was unreal!

I found the Char Kway Teow was too salty and missing some ingredient in it to make it Malaysian Char Kway Teow. The Achar-Achar and chicken satay were not bad but again, very different than the real Malaysian ones. I really like the pandan crepe, which I think was done very well and close enough to those back home.

Very good food, freshly prepared, intense yet tasty flavours. Efforts to deliver good meals, from apetizers to deserts (fried banana & coconut filled crepes were excellent!). Considering that it's not local food, it would require more intro & explanation from the waiting staff, and make it much richer experience! Good food & nice place to eat!

We visited during the winterlicious 2014 and took the Prix Fixe Program menu. That menu had a good selection for a carnivore or a a vegetarian. They waiter made sure to give his full attention and walk us through the menu. Was impressed with the food. Had a look at the regular menu, it was very limited didn't have some dishes i am used to seeing in other places. Still looked good. We will go there again for dinner again without a doubt.

I recommend ordering several appetizers and main courses for sharing which is why the bigger your group, the better. Everything was delicious and very fresh. Nothing was too spicy and they will cater it to your tastes. Definitely get the roti to go with the sauces of the curries. You will want every last drop! Portions are generous and we ordered 4 main courses for 4 people. We probably would have been fine with 3 courses as we had leftovers for a doggy bag. But of course we were happy we got to try 4 dishes. Service was very quick but they didn't rush us out, despite one person being a half hour late. They let us sit for a long time and brought the bill when asked. We will definitely go back!

This was one of our favorite spots years ago and we went with high expectations. These were satisfied the food was as good or better than expected and although not once a week fare it was very good for a special occasion. The glass of wine was no less expensive than anywhere else, but the prices were very reasonable. We went early on a week day and shared the pleasant person who served us with only two other tables, service was prompt we are sure for busy nights they would have more than one person. A very enjoyable experience.

I love coming here for a quick lunch or come here for dinner with my hubby and friends. Staff are warm and friendly and some them have been there for as long as I have been coming for almost 13 years. The food is amazing especially beef rendang is melt in your mouth to die for dish. There ain't another restaurant in town that serve rendang as goid as Matahari. Only thing is, dish is served only at dinnertime, so for lunch you have pre-order it but the chef is more than happy to oblige. Green beans sambal is another excellent dish that goes well with rendang and a bowl of steam rice. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys exotic food
