A word from Mat & Naddie's
If you're not from here, you probably haven't heard of us. If you are, you already know that Mat & Naddie's offers its own brand of fine dining combined with a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere that has attracted a local following since opening more than a decade ago.

Fine, yet accessible, local cuisine is the watchword here. Although we do get the occasional tourist who ventures off the beaten path, Mat & Naddie's caters to its neighbors' tastes.

Longtime Mat & Naddie's cook, Steve Schwarz, purchased the restaurant from founders Paula and Michael Schramel and their children Nat & Maddie (get it?). Schwarz creates the friendly and funky look of a roadside café that does not betray how very ambitious the Creole fine dining menu is. When weather is pleasant, diners opt for patio seating, which offers silhouettes of horseback riders on the levee behind which freighters ply their way up and down the Mississippi.

  • "The apps were superb. We had the marinated olives and ricotta, and the star of the evening was the roasted banana with green curry and cashew butter. The mushroom roulade was spectacular. The gulf fish (redfish) was solid but not out of the ordinary, and the green beans were a bit too al dente. The old-fashioned was interesting and good -- real cherry, not maraschino, and a certain spiciness that probably came from the type of bitters used. The service was serviceable."

  • "I have now thouroughly enjoyed Mat and Naddie's twice (March 2011 and March 2014). This most recent time, I took my life partner for her first experience. We were greeted warmly by the charming hostess and that warmth was consistent with the entire staff. Our cocktails - arrived quickly and were delicious. Our appetizers from the first bite were perfect. The right blend of flavors with no one overpowering another. I had endive and beet salad. While my partner had the mixed greens. Dinner was even better - Lamb chops and duck breast. Leave room for dessert. The blueberry peach cobbler was excellent."

  • "Read the reviews and made a reservation . It was as described, good food, good service, nice location. The only negative was a acoustics in the dining room. We we near a table of 6-8 that were very loud. That's all you hear in the room. Other diners appeared annoyed as well. The good part was they were finishing dinner and left. I would recommend this restaurant and we will visit again on our next trip to NOLA."

  • "We have passed Mat & Naddie;s plenty of times; didn't every search for info. Our daughter wanted to go there for a special occasion. We made reservations, which the day before the event they confirmed with us(unexpected and nice touch) and were greatly pleased with everything. The food was fabulous, drinks were well mixed, and the pace of serving the appetizers, salads, entrees through dessert was perfect! We enjoy having a few minutes between servings to talk and digest the food, and they were right on top of things. Will definitely return as our special occasion place as well as pass the word through our food groups."

  • "Moved here to New Orleans from Chicago 6 months ago, in a town that has a great restaurant on every corner, Mat and Naddie's has just become one of our favorites...it started with the hostess's welcoming call to confirm our reservation, continued to it's nice funky decor, on to the laid-back elegance, to the delicious appetizers, salad and entries (my veal saltimbocca might be the best dish I've had in NOLA so far), and finishing up with delectable desserts...wonderfully friendly, at times a tad inattentive, service...but I'm really picking nits...we will be back."

  • "The food and ambiance was wonderful as usual, and the suggested Portugese wine was excellent with our steaks. However, I was not told and did not check the bill before adding the 20% tip on top of a total that already included an added gratuity. So on a $120 bill we ended up leaving about a $60 tip. My fault, I know, for not looking closely at the bill. But if a restaurant is going to add a gratuity on a table for two which is not common in my experience, I believe they should at least inform you when they bring you the bill. I will return, but it will not be with the same delight in my heart since I feel I was duped."

  • "My boyfriend and I were in New Orleans this past weekend. My dad's colleague recommended Mat & Naddie's to us, and I'm so glad he did. Even though it wasn't anywhere near our hotel, it was totally worth it. We started with the olives, artichoke hearts, and ricotta - everything was very good and went well with the fresh bread. The entrees, however, stole the show. I had the lamb chops. Each component of the dish was delicious, although I think my favorite part was the bread with the poached egg. My boyfriend had the grilled shrimp. The sauce that went with it was out of this world. For dessert, we split the bread pudding - a fantastic end to a wonderful meal. All-in-all, dinner at Mat & Naddie's was one of the best I have had in months."

  • "I went to Matt and Naddie's for dinner while out of town for business. A coworker and I went for dinner. The food was terrific IMHO. I had a butter soft filet and my friend had a Gruyere and Mushroom roulade (which to a redneck is like a jelly roll). I loved both mine and hers but hers was a little better than mine because of the wonderful earthy flavor of the porcini mushrooms. I would definitely come back to M&N's if I am back in town. The only drawback for me was it was a little load. It is a smallish dining room in what appears to be an old house. There were hard surfaces galore so lots of sound bouncing off everything. I can overlook that because the food was so good. I would not take someone there to propose, might not hear you."

  • "We had a delicious meal here last week. The food was excellent and the service was great!!! Wait staff was knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. I took my family who was in from out of town. We ate there in April and again recently. They loved it both times. The owner has a great wine list and is really friendly. Also the restaurant has a cool local neighborhood feel, so out of towners feel like they're discovering a hidden NOLA spot. I will be back:-) Thanks for a great dinner...Cheers!"

  • "We had a lovely dinner at Mat and Naddies. Our waitress was very good, only forgot a minor request when the place filled up. The food was delicious although our rib eyes were a little on the thin side. I would prefer a thicker but smaller cut rather then larger and thinner. Just a personal preference. It was a very nice experience overall but a word about the taxi service to get there. They do not seem to know where the place is, we passed it and ended up driving through a kind of sketchy part of town. Ask the restaurant for detailed explanation to the cabbie before you go if by taxi."

  • "We went to Mat and Naddies with our Tulane student on friday night. She has driven by there several times and has wanted to try it. Well lucky us! It was superb! The farm to table concept is what I look for as well as an intriguing menu. We had the pate -- delicious, salad and entrees: lamb meatballs reminded me of something my Armenian grandmother used to make -- delicious! Others in our party had the red fish...to die for, and the lamb cooked to perfection and tasty. Desserts are wonderful -- try the lemon icebox pie! And the bread pudding. The service here is impeccable. Our waiter was knowledgable and attentive his reccomendations were right on! We will definitely go back again and again!"

  • "This farm-to-table-esque cuisine features off the beaten path eccentric dishes. The obscure options are diverse in flavor and size--and they are sure to provide a dish for even the most limited diners, vegans. My friend and I let our waitress choose dessert for us. I was pleasantly surprised to have appreciated both the creme brûlée and lemon tart despite the lack of chocolate (which I usually never go without in a dessert). It is definitely not the type of place to go to with unadventurous, picky diners; but, for those who are not afraid to put their taste buds to the test Mat & Naddies should be next on the list!"

  • "My husband and I celebrated his birthday on Tuesday night. The restaurant was empty so we had exceptional service and attention. The food was excellent.THe beef barley soup was rich and the grilled redfish with beurre blanc sauce with grapefruit was amazing. the sauce had a tangy taste with a hint of the grapefruit citrus. My husbands filet was cooked to perfection and very tender. The sauce was excellent. They surprised him with a piece of chocolate cake with was rich with dark chocolate and a raspberry sauce."
