Still working out the kinks in the food to the table service. Our oyster plate had a few "top" shells instead of the bottom shells where the oyster lies thus the oyster went in the shucking trash can (in the kitchen) instead of making to our plate. When we notified the server, nothing was done to rectify the mistake. The hostess was very accomodating however, when we asked to switch to a table in the bar versus a very quiet, back room.

We were sat in the dining room on this visit. Works much better then being in the open bar area if you want to have a conversation. The bone in Filet is the best I have ever had. 3 of the 4 people at our table all had the same opinion. It is a little expensive for a regular visit if you enjoy a great bottle of wine or two with dinner.

Nice welcome and good table in classy dining room. Steaks outstanding but absolutely woeful fries. Overcooked yet soggy. Sent back twice - third time just about acceptable. Nowhere near as good as Macdonalds! Dessert splendidly decadent and scrumptious. Never mind the calories. Wine good but pricy.

We were a group of 12 on New Years Eve. I had asked for a round table. Confirmed a round table and even the conceriege at the hotel confirmed a round table for 12. That did NOT happen and we were told it was never possible. Other than that our dinner was delicious and the service was great. Thank you

Although service was very good and the staff ws very helpful... when comparing the food with the sister company in NEWPORT there is a big disparity in quality and presentation....This has nothing to do with the entree's as the meat served was delicious but with the apitizers and salds.....Specifically the Lump crab Mushrooms and crab cakes...I would think the uniformity of a Family establishment would follow through to the slightest detail at that price level especially with this Name.....Even the entertainment was not up to scale....

Excellent food and beatiful restaurant, a little loud though :) Don't know why a nice restaurant like this needs an attendant in the ladies room, asking you how you liked your dinner and standing there making you uncomfortable while waiting for a tip! Otherwise, excellent.

Made an early reservation on opentable.com for New Years Eve and had no problem getting seated fast when we arrived! Great steak! (18oz Bone In Filet) Great huge sides (baked potato, grilled asparagus & Mac and Cheese)! Amazing dessert, the best I've ever had! (Signature Butter Cake). Wonderful attentive service! Will be coming back soon, probably for Valentines Day! The only negative is that the tables are small and they are very close to eachother in the dining room and even worse in the bar area.

The food and service were fantastic The only negative was the screaming from the piano bar. In the past, the Mastro's I have dinedThe piano bar has been mellow and not over powering. If you plan on having a great dining experience, you don't want the music, in this case, it wasn't music , it was loud and offensive, to over power ther whole facility. Music at a class restaurant is called background music. Someone needs to stop the screaming at this Mastro's and install some background music at the piano bar. The unit in Thousand Oaks has the perfect piano bar to set the tone. It adds to the experience, not detracts from it

The food? Wonderful, but is wonderful food enough to make the experience great? The answer is "no". It was my birthday, and when we were shown to our table, I was thrilled to see that husband had arranged to have a huge arrangement of roses waiting for me, along with a large envelope. I proceded to admire the flowers and open the envelope, and the waiter immediately pounced on us asking what we wanted to drink. I asked the waiter to give us some time, but almost immediately he was back talking over our conversation about the "features" of the evening. Although it certainly isn't his fault that my husband has a hearing problem, but his accent and voice tonality made it impossible for husband to understand him. No space to continue.

Restaurant space much too small for the number of tables. Wait staff had trouble navigating between tables to serve the food. We felt like we were crammed in a sardine can. This is the fourth Mastro's we've been to. We won't be returning to this one.

This new Maestro’s was simply excellent. I’ve been to several, but somehow felt the food was especially tasty here. The side dishes are so big, it seems almost every table ends up taking home left over’s. I loved the scalloped potatoes and the bone in filet, yum! And yes I took home the leftovers and not for my dog! The bar was surprisingly busy and we had a late reservation at 9PM according to desert time. We left after 11:30 and the bar was full.

Fish was overcooked to the point of being chewy. Beef was cooked to perfection but was over-salted. Incredibly noisy restaurant, and we were not even seated in the bar area. It would be very difficult for anyone with the slightest hearing impairment to have a conversation. Super-professional service, thank you David, and strong wine list.

I've visited many Mastro's from Scottsdale and Vegas to CA and love them. I was very excited to have the addition in Palm Desert. What a let down. The ambiance is terrible. You feel completely boxed in. The tables are so tight the servers can't negotiate the room. The food was almost as expected. The steaks were great. The oysters Rockefeller were terrible. One salad was good the other not. My lobster was just okay. The kicker was the 3 additional drinks attached to our check. Not cool. We won't be returning to this Mastro's. One plus, the live music in the bar was excellent.

The dining experience was great, but am confused as to why there is a big screen TV in the bar area (middle of the restaurant). We consider Mastro's to be a very high end restaurant with prices to match. The warm spinach salad was the best we've ever had. Steaks were cooked to perfection and the dessert, served with homemade whipped cream was a treat.

Way too expensive!! Everything is ala carte. The least expensive entree is $41. The least expensive salad is $11. Sides range from $11 to $20. Wine is priced similarly to many expensive restaurants and is priced so that the cost of a bottle is equal to 3 glasses. Better off to buy a bottle. Least expensive bottle is $30. For two of us, with tax and tip the bill came to $250. That was with a shared dessert. Food portions, however, are quite large. Our doggie bag was sufficient for the two of us to have for dinner the next night. We won't, however, be going back at these prices.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner including the steak sashimi, Ceasar salad, a couple of the filets, and the rack of lamb. Our service was prompt, well informed, and attentative. We brought our own wine and paid the $25 corkage fee. We sat in the front room which was quiet and easy to talk / no noise issues. Because we were celebrating an event, we dressed up for dinners. Other guests wore chinos and sport shirts, so I'd say the dress code is very flexible. In the future, I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. Perhaps bring a sweater and one guest did remark on being a bit chilly in her strapless cotton dress (indeed, the outfit probably was responsible for this one tiny issue, not the restaurant). The only miss was the chopped salad.
