Diner Reviews
  • "The food at Mastro's is good, but not spectacular, thus, in my opinion this restaurant is over-priced and over-rated. The menu is ordinary, very similar to Ruth Chris but with a very small selection of fish plates. Our steaks were perfectly cooked, but they over did the seasoning. My wife and I found them too salty. They have a great selection of wines but they charge 1/3 of the price of a bottle for each glass, thus, you are better of buying the bottle if you can afford it. Service was very good. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. Overall, they fell short of our expectations."

  • "While the a la carte prices are astronomical (e.g., $12 for a salad, up to $97 for a special 8 oz. steak, etc.), the preparation and flavors are to die for."

  • "Heard a lot about this place before booking a reservation. The steak is amazing. The best filet I've ever had. Staff was extremely knowledgeable about their selections. The ambience for a Friday night was perfect. My girl and I enjoyed it immensely. If you're looking for a first rate steak house, book a reservation here."

  • "Great place to celebrate a special event. A lot of people do the same thing. Must have been a dozen birthdays while we were there. Expensive."

  • "Our server, Jeff started our evening by giving us a thorough review of the menu. He helped us with our choices as well as helping us meet our special needs. Food was fantastic. Finished the evening by bringing us chocolate cake for our anniversary."

  • "Mastro's is where I go when everything needs to be perfect. When I am entertaining clients it's my first choice. They are always totally impressed with the drinks (who doesn't love dry ice coming out of their lemon drop) the perfect chilled seafood beautifully presented on ice, and those steaks! And do not miss the warm butter cake for dessert. So yummy! Live entertainment is also a plus here."

  • "The evening was wonderful and the food spectacular, as always! It was my husbands' 50th Birthday celebration and Mastro's was his request. They truly went above and beyond! Thank you!!"

  • "Our server seemed genuinely exited to be our server! Really she did a great job. Suggested items and even with a simple Shirley temple drink she suggested dry ice so it was really fun and festive!"

  • "We took a couple here that had never been to a Mastro's. They loved it. Our waitperson was fabulous. Very attentive and as it was a special occasion, he made it all the more special. The food was great. He made us try a new item that we never had and it was delicious."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants. The service is impeccable. The food is exquisite. Steaks are the best I ever have. Side dishes from risotto with scallops to gnocchi are rich and flavorful. Drink presentation is wonderful. A lemon drop is a favorite. I always have a great feeling when I am at Mastros."

  • "The sevice was excellant. Marco is amazing! The bar area is very crowded and there are alot more tables in there than in the past. Did not care for the music."

  • "In short, higher expectations are always in concert with higher prices. It's a good restaurant, average in all around performance and quality: the experience doesn't equate what you spend"

  • "The entire experience from start to finish was outstanding and separates this restaurant from all others. They pay attention to every detail making the dining experience at a level that is definitely a step above the rest!!!"

  • "The evening was perfect from beginning to end. We were put in a side room away from all the noise and music and we were able to talk without yelling. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. The steak was done to perfection as was all of the side dishes. We shared everything and it was all portioned for us by the staff. It was my friends birthday and the dessert, which was a present from Mastro's, was incredible. Although very pricey, I would come to this restaurant again for a special occasion."

  • "This was the first time we have been to the TO Mastros. The service was beyond amazing. The food was delicious all around. Great atmosphere! Music was very good and not to loud. All in all very impressed with everything. Happy with this choice for my sons 30th Birthday Dinner. PS I was a little concerned that our reservation was 100% an online reservation. I have only used OpenTable one other time. And the first time I called the restaurant to make sure the reservation was intact. This time I did not call to confirm. I was pleasantly surprised when I received a call from Mastros the morning of our reservation to confirm everything. Nice job OpenTable!! :)"

  • "Food good, drinks excellent at $18 each, service excellent. Save for a special occasion because it's over the top expensive. Very noisy in bar and sound traveled through most of restaurant."

  • "This is my 2nd time at Mastro's, so far I have not been disappointed. The food is incredible, portions are very genereous and service was fantastic. There was a live band the evening I went, which was good and bad. The band was amazing but difficult to have a conversation with our friends. If the band is there and you wanted to talk with friends. I would recommend a table further away."

  • "This restaurant is overrated. The food tended to be a bit too salty and the price was not justified. Next time we will go to Grill on The Alley."

  • "The steaks were out of this world delicious! My mouth is still watering over them 2 days later! The service was spectacular, ambience was perfect - love, love, love this place!"

  • "From the extremely polite and attentive service by Jeff to the unusual sides and extensive off the menu offers, our experience was perfect. What seemed like a bottomless Martini (the shaker was left at the table and lasted through the meal with many pours) started a meal that consisted of a bone-in filet, a Wagyu New York and the crab gnocchi. The steaks were prepared exactly to our asking and were unbelievably tender and tasty. The gnocchi is a must order. Do not leave without trying it! Everything about the experience was great and we would definitely return."

  • "The waiter's were excellent and paid great attention to our table. The food was delicious with very nice presentation. We were celebrating two birthday's and they delivered us a complimentary delicious birthday dessert. Very nice touch!"

  • "Very high end meal, but worth it. I tried the Japanese Wagku 8 oz steak that melted in my mouth. Pricey at $98.00 but I really wanted to try it and it was worth it. Was very rich, so much I only ate 1/2 of it. Side dishes/appetizer: oysters Rockefeller were ok, but not exceptional; gnocchi with king crab, panko , cheese and truffles was tasty, but a bit heavy for me, especially with rich steak. Our waiter was super nice and provided excellent service. Only downside was tables are so close together in the back of restaurant that I felt everyone around us was listening in on our conversation. Also, once the entertainment in the bar gets going, it becomes quite loud and hard to talk over even though we were in back of restaurant."

  • "The Restaurant is really nice, great bar area, great drinks, great appetizers, but food is not always outstanding as you will expect. The service is really good."

  • "Had the bone in ribeye, Gouda Mac and cheese, lobster mashed potatoes and sugar snap peas. Also, crab cakes, tuna tartar, and assorted desserts. It was a great dinner."

  • "We enjoy fine dining, and we enjoy good steaks, so we expected our 33rd anniversary dinner at Mastro's would be special. Well...we were disappointed. The steaks were very good but not amazing. The menu is a bit odd--all the starters were seafood based, except for a couple salads. And the sides were overly generous portions at crazy prices. Which brings me to prices. Honestly, I can't say the meal was worth it. $50 for a steak. $19 for a side. The same for a starter. And then served almost family style. Call me old fashioned, but I like nice presentation, especially for a premium meal! Next time we will go back to Saddle Peak Lodge for a special occasion."

  • "The food is, of course, outstanding - but what really stands out to me is the service. It is impeccable. The waiters are obviously highly trained and intelligent. I ate here a couple of months ago and had the same experience - 2 different waiters."

  • "After dining at the original Chasen's (where Ronald Regan proposed to Nancy), Chasen's 2, which ultimately ended up being Mastro's Beverly Hills 10 years ago- I thought I'd check out their Thousand Oaks location. What a let down- the building is old, the dining room is like a coffee shop, valet changed seat in car. Plates COLD!!! WTF? Are you kidding me? Oysters were great, wife's seabass great, caesar fair... Corkage $35. Whoever owns or invested in this place has never been to Beverly Hills or South Coast Plaza- sad, but true..."

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary with friends who were married on the same date. Our waiter, Wesley, was excellent. He was warm and friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. All the food was exceptional from the stuffed mushrooms to the mashed potatoes with lobster. We were treated to the warm butter cake (one for each couple). We had eaten at the Ruth's Chris in Woodland Hills a few nights before and Mastro's was so much better in all respects except the filet mignon was actually better at Ruth's Chris. We'll return to Mastro's again for a special occasion."

  • "Despite having to wait almost 30 minutes after our reservation time and the amount of people they were trying to serve, the food was absolutely amazing. Seeing the number of people I wondered if the quality of our food would be noticeable. It was absolutely the best steak I have ever had!!!!"

  • "Our steak was delicious, but had way too much salt on it, which was completely unnecessary with this high quality piece of meat. We used our napkins to scrape off the salt because it was so much."
