Diner Reviews
  • "The food and service was excellent. It was a very busy Thursday night so sitting at the bar before dinner was not possible and it was very loud in the dining area."

  • "Our party of four was seated promptly for our 6 PM reservation. The server pushed a "seafood tower" appetizer for the table. Very expensive, so we declined. I ordered the blackened mahi-mahi ($29) with a side of salt and vinegar fries ($11). The fish was good, the shoestring fries were overcooked (dark brown) and tasteless. My wife ordered the petit filet ($31) medium rare. It was served well done, no pink at all. The dessert menu is uninspired. The server pushed the "butter cake". We declined dessert. We all had two glasses of wine served by the glass. No coffee or tea. Nevertheless, the bill for four was just under $400, including a 15% tip. This was my third - and last - visit to Mastros. Leave this place to the tourists."

  • "Perfect for a special occasion dinner. I LOVE their sautéed scallops appetizer and had the most exquisite steak I have ever eaten. The cherry on top the spectacular meal was a butter cake with "Happy 5th Anniversary" written on the plate."

  • "Never disappointed here. Fantastic steak and seabass. Brussel sprouts are phenomenal. Service is impeccable. Travis is an ace."

  • "Food very overrated. My lobster tails had to be sent back they were so oversalted that the only taste was salt. The replacement was only slightly less salty so there was no typical sweet lobster meat taste. It too so long for the second plate to arrive that after a few bites I gave up. We had a 5:15 reservation and were not seated until 5:35 even though there were only one other couple and a party of four waiting to be seated. My husband loves rib eye and did not eat much of his as there was way too much fat even for a rib eye. The flourless chocolate cake was excellent so at least we finished the meal on a positive note."

  • "We had a great dining experience at Mastros. They accommodated us as we were coming from LAX and the flight was delayed. We had to move the reservations 2 times and Mastros was wonderful about it. The food, ambiance and service were spectacular."

  • "Went there for a romantic dinner, but it was very loud with kids running around. The bus boy tried to take our plates before we were done...twice! The waiter was great, he made a great choice of wine. our steaks were cooked to order, but the sides were burned."

  • "I only go restaurants where I can make a reservation on OpenTable. A few days before our dinner, I made a reservation at the very popular Maestros and requested if possible a view table for a special birthday. We given the best table in the house with an ocean view, at 7:15 no less! The evening proceeded to be an amazing success from then on as well. From our server Elaine, who worked with our timing, to fabulous cocktails, actually cocktails and a half, to great pours of wine, amazing food and the complementary birthday dessert, we all agreed it was a special evening and couldn't have been better. We have had dinners where we spend $80 and feel ripped off, and to dinners where we spend $400 and had the best night. This was one of those!"

  • "The epitome of fine dining. White linens (unless you wear black, then you get a black napkin per etiquette standards), good view of the water across PCH, and phenomenal service. From the multiple greetings as we were escorted to our table, to the attentive bus staff to the incredible wait staff. Everyone made eye contact (which I miss in Casual California) and really listened to us. I love to take the advice of the waiter and eat what they suggest and how they suggest it done. I figure they know the specialties and intricacies the best. This was one if those perfect meals. Our dinner was completely collaborative and customized. The entire evening was one to remember. For a special evening out, this is one of the best in Otange County."

  • "My husband and I finally went to Mastros Ocean Club to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. Several friends had highly recommended Mastros and we see why. Alisha, our server was very knowledgeable and fun. The food was wonderful and the portions most generous, we brought home enough for a meal the next day. The bar scene is vibrant and the entertainment was great. We were seated by a window with an ocean view, what's not to like! We will definitely be back, with friends, no complaints!"

  • "This is our first visit to the Newport Beach location & right off the bat, driving up PCH we were in awe with the view. The valet was very attentive & friendly. Our server, Damon, was truly the highlight of our experience. Damon was friendly, sociable & very attentive. We dined in the patio area & the heat lamps were perfect. Damon frequently checked on the temp to ensure we were comfortable. Our food, as always, was delicious. We are definitely returning to this location."

  • "Took my wife here for her birthday. It was our first time at the Newport Beach location and we enjoyed it more than the SouthCoast location. Aside from overlooking the ocean, the interior was much warmer and relaxed. The service was amazing. Our wait staff made sure our drinks were always full and that we had everything we needed. The food was also as amazing as always. Nothing bad to say."

  • "Hard to describe a ear perfect evening at Mastro's Newport Coast. Beautiful weather, beautiful view, great service and excellent food what more can you ask."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "The dining experience was great. The service was exceptional and the food was excellent! The view is not that great since you have a view of the pch before you see open water. At the time we ate around 5p and it was very loud and energetic. We were celebrating our 2nd Anniversary and wished it was a much calmer ambience. The food & service definitely made up for it."

  • "This was an experience in eating. The service was the best, I ordered the Ahi Tuna Tartare. The Ahi was good, but unfortunately, it was drowned in soy or ponzu sauce. My wife had the Crab Cakes and they were excellent. Order the Scollops! They were cooked just right: not to soft/ not to tough. The 12oz. Bone-in Filet was very tender Flavor, was lacking a bit: a bit to salty too. Our waiter graciously cut it in half and cooked each piece to our perfection, which I was really impressed by. We Celebrated our anniversary here and they did not forget to make it right. Thanks to the manager, Dale, who came to say hello and made sure we got a good table."

  • "Went to this location for my girlfriends birthday and everything was lovely, our mash potatoes were forgotten and brought late but regardless the experience was nice."

  • "The location was fantastic, although, we came too late it was too dark to see the nice view of the ocean but I'm sure if we came around sunset it would have been even better. The service was great, the hostess greeted and seated us right away. My boyfriend had crutches during that time so they gave us a seat right by the front door so he wouldn't have to walk too far to get to the table. My boyfriend ordered the steak, and it was very tender and juicy; it was cooked perfectly. I ordered the sea bass and it tasted very fresh, flaky, and seasoned well. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We also got a complimentary dessert that had "happy anniversary" on it. It was the best butter cake i've ever had! We will definitely be coming back."

  • "Mastro's is extremely popular and as a result very busy. Booked in advance and let them know it was our anniversary but we got a table that seemed to be placed where it should have been a walkway instead. Our server Candace was great but some of the bus staff kept running into my wife's chair. Not one apologized. One even dropped a steak knife on the floor and didn't come back to pick it up. We had to wave our server over and tell her. The food was also over salted that night. Scalloped potatoes were I edible and sadly had to be sent back. But at the end they comp'd us a piece of chocolate cake for our anniversary. I've dined here at least a dozen times and this time seemed very subpar except for our server."

  • "We gave this place a second chance, after the manager offered us to make up for our previous bad experience at the restaurant. Ironically enough, they messed up at the very beginning by bringing some drinks to the table (that we didn't order); after us asking the server if he was sure they were for us, he replied with: of course! (then we thought they may be a courtesy of the manager or something). After a couple of minutes, server comes back to our table apologizing and taking the drinks away (???) because they weren't for us. This kind of things should NEVER happen at any restaurant of this level. If you mess up, you gracefully deal with it. You should never take away drinks that have been served, even if it was a mistake."

  • "Ask for Mike! We sat in the patio area and had the best date night ever! Sautéed Scallops are a must! Try the lobster mash potatoes and Gorgonzola Mac-n-cheese. Oh yea, the bone in ribeye is DELISH!!! :-)!!! Everything was to die for!!!!"

  • "We had a most memorable evening at Mastr's. It was our anniversary dinner and they served us their Butter cake which was amazing. Our whole experience was superb! Our server Kim, was the best. She even called the next day to thank us for dining with them. An unexpected call!"

  • "Maestro's has to be one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in. No matter when or how many times you go back, the food, service, ambiance is always fabulous. I love Maestro's and can't ever get too much of it!!! It has so much class and personality. Just great."

  • "Initially we had to wait 20 minutes for our main waitress to order drinks however it appears it was due to an assignment mix up. Having worked in retail industry for 46 years it happens. However, once our waitress, Ali, connected with us the service and food were outstanding!! She was extremely apologetic and comped our first round of cocktails, She inquired as to the occasion and we responded it was our 22nd wedding anniversary. The restaurant proceeded to honor us with a beautiful and personalized delicious pound cake recognizing our anniversary for dessert! Ali saved the evening!!!!!"

  • "We had a celebration dinner and found everything delicious from the martini's, to the sushi, salads, veggie sides, filet, lamb and dessert. Our wait staff was very attentive and not pushy as we ordered one course at a time. The side dishes were amble and served 4 people easily. We were seated on the enclosed patio with a nice view of the ocean."

  • "The appetizer was great, but the steak was under cooked, the lobster was dried out and tasted rubbery, and we ordered a special prong dish they were serving that night and it was not good at all. The sides were excellent but the main dishes were not, my friend I was eating with even had to send back his crab legs because they came out undercooked... the lobster mash potatoes might be the best thing I've ever tasted though..."

  • "Poor Service - truly Cold food, runny potatoes, dry chicken, etc. 1/3 the price of B.H. Masrro and not nearly as scrumptious"

  • "I have dined at Mastros many times....always consistent, food always served hot (which is something I appreciate) Our server, Mark, was attentive, helpful, and courteous. My only complaint was the front entry staff. There were 3 staff people when we entered who seemed disorganized, pre-occupied, And unfriendly."

  • "I made a reservation for my birthday because Mastro's is one of my favorite restaurants. I asked for a table by the window, if available, knowing full well that it probably wouldn't be - which I would have been ok with. But for some reason, they seated us in the bar area. I didn't even know that they had tables in the bar. The bar is great for drinks but not dinner. It was noisy and dark, and not at all when I'm used to from Mastro's. It was hard to talk across the table given the noise, and it was too dark to even read the menu. The food and service were great as usual, but I will never sit in the bar again. Ask to be reseated if they sit you in the bar."

  • "This place was outstanding! There was live music and the girl singing was spectacular. She was so amazing that I actually thought it was a CD until I heard her say good night and everyone clapped! I am not one that likes alot of noise when I dine, but otherwise it was good! The food was ridiculously amazing. Had the bone-in ribeye, lobster mashed potatoes (OMG), lobster bisque soup (to die for), and the infamous butter cake. That cake was insane! I couldn't get enough of it! Definitely a place to go and well worth the money!"

  • "Loved everything about our meal! We were initally seated at an indesirable table. However, they moved us right away and the rest of the evening was great. I was a bit surprised at the delay in service... Clearing plates, refilling drinks.. But this is not picking an amazing experience! It's a must go!"
