Mastro's Steakhouse - Costa MesaExcellent RestaurantService excellent. The crab stuffed mushrooms were very delicious with chunks of crab meat. Very big size mushrooms and generous portions for an appetizer. Their wine list is fabulous. We had the Dr. L Reisling which was pefect. The lobster bisque was absolutely delicious. I had the 2 -7oz size Australian lobster tails. Many restaurants do not serve these lobsters. They are the best. They were perfect and sweet. We also had the rack of lamb which was perfect temperature and perfectly done. Very good. For sides we had the Lobster mashed potatoes and asparagus. This was the best dish we ever had. It was just decadent. There was large chunks of Maine lobster in the potatoes. The Key Lime pie is huge and delicious. Arrived at 5:30pm with a reservation and was greeted politely and shown to our table with no wait. Excellent. Within minutes our waiter introduced ourselves and we explained we had never been there before so he spent extra time explaining the menu and specials for the day. . The wife LOVED her dinner (filet mignon) and could not say enough good things about it. I thought my NY strip was a little fatty but normal for that cut. I thought the noise level was very high for a high end restaurant (it was packed) and had to basically yell to have a conversation. With dinner, tip, and valet, it was a $250.00 night. All of us found something incredible for both dinner and dessert and couldn't stop raving about our choices. Our server, Nico was great. He was very patient with mom.
The restaurant was must noisier than I would have expected (and care for) especially for such a high end place. It made it somewhat challenging to converse over our meal. I was also disappointed that, in spite of having reservations, we waiting close to 15 minutes to be seated. Also, there is VERY limited lobby seating. We usually visit the Ocean Club for special dinners. Upon arriving, we never have to wait and were seated immediately even though we were early for our reservation. The restaurant was crowded as you would expect for Mother's Day. Although crowded, the noise level was remarkably quiet. Our waiter showed up right as we were seated with menus and dining suggestions. The food was exactly as ordered and I would suggest the filet, though my girlfriend would suggest the veal chop. The lobster mashed potatoes were wonderful.

Both were cooked perfectly to order and the garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. The steaks are very generous cuts, so there is easily a second meal to be had from the leftovers. We were celebrating our anniversary, and our waiter was so kind to bring us a complimentary slice of chocolate cake. Given that it was our anniversary, I requested that we have a quieter space. I expressed that we would be willing to wait longer if required. We were seated on time but along an open wall near the entrance. On the opposite side was the host stand, patrons waiting, bright lighting, and noise. It seemed to be the "least quiet" of the 2-person tables available. Our server Krista was wonderful about arranging the change. My steak was the best I'd ever had and everything else was fresh and delicious. It is definitely expensive, but one of the few places that is worth the occasional splurge.
