Mason’s, aptly named for the popular Mason jars used in Southern canning, is a Southern brasserie-style restaurant combining traditional Southern dishes with classical French techniques to create a uniquely local dining experience.   • "Everything was really wonderful. A Southern meal with a European twist. We had all three courses and each was perfect. (fried green tomatoes, scallops, roasted chicken, grilled corn, the lowest rating goes to gluten free chocolate mouse.) The portions were just right. The service was nice and atmosphere relaxing.   • "I saw the full page ad in a local magazine. Touted brunch the old fashioned way. They are going to have to do something besides put pimento cheese in a little ball jar to create a good food experience. The portions were large but tasteless and prices were crazy. One drink each and the bill with tip was $70.00. For breakfast? I live here now and love Nashville, but I'm from Chicago - a great food city. This place would not last a week there. Our server was very very nice - but cold, voluminous atmosphere. Like any other business hotel restaurant. Same old "southern cuisine" prepared very badly. Should have known why it was almost empty for brunch at 12:30. Don't waste your time"

It's a hotel restaurant and feels like a hotel restaurant (guy in a suit sitting a few tables away from a family in "we just woke up throw on whatever you can find" outfits). Service was good. I think you can find a better cost to value of food elsewhere."

  • "I have been to Mason's twice, and both times the food was incredible. I have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the US, and I put the food here right up there with the best. We started with a simple cheese assortment for an appetizer. Or so I thought. The cheeses were mouthwatering. And there was a fresh honeycomb on the platter. The goat cheese with honey was awesome. I asked the waitress to find out what it was and where I could get it. The rest of the meal was just as good. I had the shrimp and grits. I thought I was a shrimp and grits snob, but this blew me away. Every bite was heaven.Can't believe this place isn't more crowded. I would give this place 6 stars, but it only allows 5. Again, compliments to the chef. Simply amazing!"

  • "This was my first time at Mason's and it was great! We were enjoying ourselves at the bar so much that we decided just to stay there and order some items to share. Our bartender was very friendly and attentive and so helpful describing the dishes as we had a hard time deciding what to order. We shared the Bone Marrow/short ribs app, Little Gems salad and cheese plate. All were delicious! I look forward to my next visit!"

  • "We were in Nashville for a conference and made a blind reservation. We were seated immediately and our server, Christie, went above and beyond in her attention and recommendations. I had trout and my wife had the chicken something. Appetizer of grilled pea pods. Topped it off with a local Yazoo hefeweizen. Could not have been better. In the meantime, Christie is mapping out my next few days with my wife using brochures and maps. Wonderful dinner and a quick guide to Nashville."

  • "We found an unexpected treasure at Mason's. The wait staff was very helpful in making selecting and accommodating everyone in our large group of 8. The food was delicious from the macaroni and cheese with chicken for our teenage girls to the adult entrees of trout, scallops and steak. The appetizer of mason jars was fun to share - the tomato jam wonderful. The desserts were limited but great - loved the apple galette & chocolate layer cake. We will definitely return "

  • "I visited Nashville this week. When I found out that Mason's was down the street from my hotel and I had connected the fact that the chef was on Chopped, I made a reservation. I was alone so couldn't try too many dishes. I had the pork chop entree, which was quite nice (I wanted to pick up the bone with my fingers, but made myself resist). My dessert was odd. When I got back to the hotel and looked at the current menu online, I figured out why: I got the wrong sauce. They put the lemon curd sauce (part of another dessert) incorrectly on my dessert. Seems like a careless mistake to use the wrong sauce and to include at least one typo in the description! The toffee part was good anyway."

  • "If you want somewhere to take out of town folks, this is a great spot. The menu is diverse (burgers, fish, soup, charcuterie) and has plenty of southern flair with apps served in tiny mason jars. Definitely recommend the excellent service and great ambiance."

  • "My wife and I have lived in Nashville many years. The city is becoming a foodie paradise, so some say. Before that can happen, restaurant owners need to recruit talented chefs from top restaurants, and pay them what they are worth. New ideas are expensive. Food served in restaurants like Mason's are stuck serving the same food found all over town in mediocre restaurants. Those started by investors with no idea of what constitutes good food. Mason's is a third rate restaurant that won't spend what is necessary to attract locals again and again. Take a tip from Brick Tops...good food, every time, served with flare."

  • "We had been looking forward to heating at Masons for a long while. The evening we went, women's basketball was in town. The restaurant was empty but for us and another couple. Unfortunately the bar is directly across from the restaurant and our nice quiet meal was taken over by a big screen TV and the cheers from the crowd. Seems like the menu was very limited - 1 fish, 1 chicken, 1 beef, 1 lamb, a burger and something pasta. No specials for the night. We had the fish, the chicken and the burger. While they were okay, I probably would not order them again, so probably won't be back. It seems like it could be a very nice restaurant if the menu were tweaked a bit. I was sorry to be disappointed."

  • "If you are looking for a nice place to enjoy some creative Southern dishes with an elevated French twist, Mason's is it! My girlfriend and I recently enjoyed an anniversary dinner there. We were very well taken care of and Chef Brandon Frohne had some tasy tricks up his sleeve. Everything off the menu we ordered was fantastic! As far as appetizers go, I would recommend the fried green tomatoes and the bone marrow. The portions given with every plate were fair for the price. The pork chop entree offered the best pairing of chimichuri and perfectly cooked pork I have experienced. It didn't end with the entrees. A special desert was even brought out and prepared table side by Chef himself. We highly recommend Mason's and will be back!"

He was right: even for lunch, food was really good, service was attentive, but the bill was expensive. We are glad we went, but it will most certainly not be a habit."

  • "There's not much to recommend at Mason's. The wine list is well put together and basically fairly priced (lots of bottles are ~10% too expensive, but then again it's a restaurant in a hotel so they might get a pass on that). Pastry is a strength. Food and service are so so, and on weekend nights the noise from the bar across the way bleeds in. If you want "new southern" in a hotel, go to Kitchen Note in the Omni. It does everything Mason's does quite a bit better."

  • "We just had coffee and orange juice and bacon and sausage and shrimp & grits and French toast and fresh fruit and deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes and banana jam with some crazy bacon toffee peanut butter crumb chocolate thing. Holy good gracious. Our waitress Corinthia was impeccable and Marcos runs a tight ship. We are grateful for one of the best meals we have ever eaten in Nashville (and we live here!). Delicious. What else can I say?"

  • "We went here for dinner on Christmas night, about 6:15 p.m. It was one of the best 10 meals I have ever had in my life. I had the shrimp and grits. It came with the best collards I have ever had in my life. Before dinner we shared the crab cake corn dogs. They were excellent. My husband had a hamburger and they kindly substituted collards for his fries (not shown on the menu as coming with fries and he won't eat them). The service was wonderful, the restaurant was very clean, and the food was fantastic. We never expected a hotel restaurant to have such high standards of quality. If we are in Nashville, we would definitely go back to have a meal here. I'll remember it my whole life. Wish I could have the recipe for the collard greens."

  • "Food was good. Service was not great but workable. The restaurant was not remotely busy but service was slow and the server seemed to be filling in. They were setting up for a brunch that looked really nice. So you would probably get better service if you did not go around Christmas. The food was good and had some inventive items like the East Nashville Hipster biscuit and Jack White wrap with fried green tomatoes. I like dining in hotel restaurants since the food is typically nicely prepared. I have found service to typically extremely slow in these places which is fine if you are not in a rush. I would recommend Prime 108 in the Union Station Hotel over Mason's. Their food is always awesome and the restaurant is beautiful."

  • "Staff very friendly but not very refined. Greeter was reading newspaper at hostess stand and had to finish article before welcoming us. Fruit not ripe. Bagel doughy and probably frozen. All in all food is so so and not presented with much imagination. Place nearly empty when other near-by restaurants overflowing on holiday weekend. Needs intensive attention to make it an attractive destination."

  • "We were visiting Nashville for my sister's birthday and chose Mason's based on proximity to out hotel and previous reviews. The food was excellent but I felt it was over-priced considering the portion size. We ordered the deviled eggs and the special of a filet over Gouda grits and the shrimp and grits. The special cost $34 and it was a very small piece of meat."

  • "Mason's is located in the Loews Vanderbilt Plaza Hotel. First thing, access is easy, complimentary and fast with the valet service. That's very, very nice. My husband and I went with another couple. The restaurant has an intriguing menu and each dish we tried was a wonderful discovery. We had the crab corn dogs, fried green tomatoes, and bone marrow confit as appetizers. They were all crazy good and differently done. As entrees we had the Shrimp and Grits, the Pork Shank, and the Halibut. Every dish was over the top pleasing. The strawberry rhubarb pie was scrumptious too. The chef here has a gift for sure. These were imaginative dishes at every turn. This is one of Nashville's best restaurants and not to be missed!"

  • "Had a lovely dinner here, with an outstanding mojito and an amazing hamburger (one of the best I've ever had). Corn bisque was very good, too. Excellent service, but didn't care for the ambiance or decor--a bit too cold and sparse for my taste. Only misfire, food-wise, was the strawberry/rhubarb fried pie, the crust for which was heavy and not at all flaky, and the accompanying vanilla ice cream was rock hard and thus tasteless. Nonetheless, I recommend Mason's, and hope it does well."

  • "We were excited to try Masons having read about it in the paper. We were drawn in by the crab car dogs and they are the only things that did not disappoint. The restaurant was sparsely occupied but it was many minutes before our table was given water and drink orders were taken. The gnocchi was grainy and the steaks were average. All in all the service was slow, the food was average and the it was ridiculously overpriced. We will not be back."
