Diner Reviews
  • "As always Masona Grill did not disappoint. My friends and I had an excellent dinner with excellent service for my birthday. I recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family. The food never disappoints and the owner and service are extremely friendly and care about their customers. I had the swordfish, and always was to die for. The ceviche appetizer I highly recommend as well as the coconut cake for dessert! A great time had by all. Thanks again!"

  • "Great night out, we didn't feel rushed at all. The entrees were large portions and the plating looked great. The food was delicious. "

  • "This resturant seems to have deteriorated. On our last visitt here was a mix- up with our reservation and we were ultimately given a terrble table near a service door. The service was slow; the food was luke warm when served and the cocktails are expensive and very small."

  • "Everything is great about this place except when its packed the noise level is so high its hard to have a conversation without talking VERY loud. Especially if you get someone sitting next to you who can shatter the wine glass their guzzling out of. Otherwise terrific."

  • "We got seated next to a very loud party of six which given how close the tables are really took away from what is usually a very nice dining experience."

  • "The Masona Grill is one of my favorite restaurants. Went there to celebrate my birthday with friends and everyone's food was delicious. We started out with a calamari appetizer which was very good; it had a good consistency and the portion was very generous. I ordered an eggplant entree which I have had before and like very much. It is consistently tasty. One of my friends ordered the pork special and she said it was excellent. The only disappointment for me was that they changed the menu and removed the duck which is my very favorite dinner and substituted it for lamb."

  • "The menu was interesting and had a lot to choose from. As someone who eats meat very seldomly, it was a bit tricky, but I opted for the grilled pork tenderloin and it was fantastic. The wait staff was excellent, the space very unique, and the wine list good but affordable."

  • "Always superb! This is a restaurant where the food is authentic and different. The bask flavors are Peruvian.Sutbtle yet spicy enough to give you. a melding of great tastes .This is a great place to dine."

  • "Nice change of pace. The food was plentiful and tasty. The restaurant is cozy and takes you to another time. I always feel I am somewhere far away. I don't know how they cook that great food in such a small kitchen. They should be on Diners Drive ins and Dives. A must try!."

  • "Masona Grill never disappoints. Wonderful combination of flavors and everything is cooked perfectly! Friendly service from staff that has been there forever. One of our favorite spots!"

  • "appetizers: crispy oyster and shrimp ceviche nothing spectacular entrees: latin cassoulet - lamb was cooked perfectly but not season too well to mask the gaminess and the chorizo was really dry and hard. hanger steak with oregano chimichurri was okay dessert: tres leche is good and the latin rice pudding was okay it was my 1st time and will not go back to try it out again thank goodness it was for only restaurant week but still expensive night for 2 people."

  • "Masona Grill is great! People have been telling us for years to go, and we finally made it, and what a great dinner! Food was amazing, wait staff was very attentive and personable. Owner came by and bussed tables, so you know they're passionate about what they do. Can't wait to go back again!"

  • "We dined at Masona Grill for the first time during Boston Dines Out week. The choices from the menu were extensive and all so enticing. The food was excellent and the presentation beautiful. We will definitely go back."

  • "Always dependable Masona Grill. Everyone loved wild mushroom bisque appetizer. My duck dumplings were tasty but could have been warmer. Entrees all were successful, from Cod special to cioppino-like stew to scallops special. Vouvray was very good, though the mark-up was a tad excessive @ $41. Service was attentive and water and bread was replenished."

  • "Went to dinner to celebrate a friend getting new job. As always, the food was reliably delicious, the wait staff was friendly and seem genuinely happy to see you, and it was a lot of fun. As appetizers, we had muscles which were really excellent - done just right. One of my favorite dishes is duck well prepared and my expectations were more than met. I definitely recommend this restaurant for special events as well as every day dining. It is one of my favorites."

  • "Went here for my birthday.. Was seated in a crammed location with other tables like 2 feet from me so you could whisper and be heard by everyone. Dropped a glass off the table by accident and the waiter wasn't happy, although it was an accident and I apologized a few time, but the table for 2 was so small... Food was ok, not bad for the area but the pricing somewhat made it unreasonable.. It's West Roxbury not Boston.. I had the Cod... small portion nothing crazy, there were more assorted vegetables on the plate in total than actual fish. My wife got the short ribs, she had a heaping portion, I was starving after my meal and actually started eating off her plate.."

  • "THe food and service were fine. I had asked for a quiet table when I made the reservation., That request was not honored, though there really are no tables in the restaurant that are really quiet. Th e noise level was so high that it was impossible to talk to our friends. Being heard when screaming was actually difficult. For those in our party, none of us would ever return because of the noise issue."

  • "And that after 2 visits? As Europeans dining in an American restaurant that has a lot of global influences, especially from South-America? Yes, definitely yes! This is fine dining with every time that surprising twist."

  • "We enjoy dining at Masona Grill often. The food and the service are always fantastic. My favorite meal is anything that they do with duck."

  • "My meal was GREAT! I had a delicious scallop dish and it came out just the way i wanted it. Perfectly flavored and presented. My husband however, ordered filet mignon medium rare and received a steak that was medium well. That is a BIG difference. If it had been me i would have returned it and had them recook one but he hates doing that, so he kind of suffered through an overpriced overdone steak. I was disappointed b/c mine was so good, I would have loved for Masona Grill to be a place we could come back to for another date night, but I don't think he'll give it another try."

  • "We were a group of 4. Everyone loved their entree. the food was beautifully prepared, clearly with fresh ingredients. The service was great. The waiter was attentive but didn't try to rush us out the door.. Our water glasses were filled promptly."

  • "Who would have guessed that food this great would be found in West Roxbury! We live in Boston and eat out a lot .There are a lot of great places out there but Masona Grill stands out in the crowd. We had a party of 6, 4 of us hadn't been here before, the other 2 had been a dozen times. We know why. The short ribs, the scallops, the swordfish were all excellent. We split a bunch of appetizers which were also great. Alas, no room for dessert. This place is a gem. Easy parking, nice wait staff. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Have been going here for years but this is the first time I am writing a review. Good food with HUGE portions. On our most recent visit my husband had the Lobster Bisque, the Lamb as his entree and the Chocolate Budino for dessert. Loved every bit of it. Lamb was cooked perfectly with ample mint "jelly" on the side! I had the Tuna Ceviche & the scallops as my entree. Both were excellent but I ended up taking home more than I could eat. In the past I have loved the Tuna entree. May I suggest a tasting/tapas menu. I loved tasting my food as well as my husbands and would love the chance to have a meal of 4-5 tiny portions of my favorites! I"

  • "We've been coming here for Valentine's Day for about 8 years. This year I found it to be very expensive and the food mediocre"

  • "Both the food and service were excellent. The specials menu had a wide selection of entrees and starters as well as wine. Their regular menu is great too! Easily found something that appealed to everyone in our party. Our waiter was very helpful, making recommendations for both the adults and children. We plan on going back again soon."

  • "The food here is consistently good. The menu is eclectic and inventive. Every time I go here (3 times so far), I've been surprised at how much I enjoyed the meal. The ambiance is cozy and relaxed. This is a hidden gem IMO."

  • "Service was unusually slow for Masona despite an evening with only a few tables filled. It was Superbowl Sunday and several waitstaff had decided not to work that day, leaving just one person to serve the room. The result was dinner taking inordinately long with the waitstaff and the kitchen slow and seeming overwhelmed and severely disorganized, something we had not seen there before and that we chalked up to the lack of personnel."

  • "We had a great time at Masona...unfortunately, the noise level on a Saturday on the upper level was almost painful. Would recommend trying to get a table on the lower level if you are going to go during a busy time."

  • "I have eaten at Masona quite a few times and the food continues to impress me each time. The swordfish was better than any of the major seafood restaurants in Boston in preparation, taste and price point in my opinion. The food and service was great. Highly recommended."
