Masala Art DCGreat food, best local Indian placeThe food is consistently good, nice atmosphere, decent service, great location5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFrom my perspective - bestFrom my perspective - best Indian restaurant in DC.
Authentic yet creative food.
Nice, casual atmosphere.
And the fact that the owner has just this one restaurant, and not a chain of them( and always seems to be present and attentive) -- adds a level of personal service and quality not generally seen.
Highly recommend.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my mom there basedI took my mom there based on a recommendation and we both absolutely loved it.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMhave eaten here 15 times.have eaten here 15 times. love it! always consistent with their great food and service4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice vegetarian sectionVery nice vegetarian section to menu. Great take on Indian food, lighter, more interesting spices, and especially well presented.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMService a little slow butService a little slow but very nice. Our first time, we would definitely go again.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you Masala for beingThank you Masala for being an oasis in the Tenleytown hood for unique and tasteful food, very attentive staff, and more!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMasala art is a truly goodMasala art is a truly good indian restaurant. it is not great, dc does not possess a great indian restaurant no matter how much people rave about rasika. Masala art in my opinion is significantly cheaper and just as good as rasika. Both rasikas have better ambiance, but the price tag to go along with it.
My suggestion is if you are eating at Masala Art, is to get the kabobs, papri chat for appetizers, the dahl, chicken tikka masala and lamb for main courses.
I have been here multiple times and not been disappointed.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Indian FoodMy wife and I has visited Marsala Art on several occasions and we have never been disappointed. The food is always excellent and the staff are courteous, efficient and friendly. Having grown up with Indian food in East Africa, I can safely say that this is the best Indian food I have eaten in DC. I always recommend the restaurant to friends and I am always happy to take visitors and family friends there. I am a "foodie" and although I am quite a good Indian cook myself since finding Marsala Art, I now prefer to dine there than cook myself. This restaurant is genuinely a neighborhood gem and I fully recommend anybody who has not been there to try it.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Attentive staff.Great food. Attentive staff. Hostess showed real concern that table was not ready when we arrived and offered free cocktail at the bar while we waited. We had a short wait for a table but the food was excellent and we had a great experience.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMfirst time. awesome breads.first time. awesome breads. mediocre chai masala. great service. clean decor. very spicy entrees. make sure you communicate with staff before ordering. the rice sides were great with the entrees . they weren't your typical white rice. they were golden in color with much flavor. desserts were sparing in quantity. i ordered three desserts to fill my single dessert box in my tummy. they were tasty but small. if you haven't been there , it's worth the try, especially if you live in the neighborhood. and the staff will treat you well.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the "half price wine"Love the "half price wine" nights (M-Th). The food here is some of the best Indian food I've ever eaten, and it's not your "run of the mill" type of food you can find just about anywhere. This is Northern Indian at its best. Add to that a lovely restaurant and truly excellent service, and I plan to continue to dine here as often as possible. What a lovely experience.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMfood was good as ever; stfffood was good as ever; stff helpful; but they didn't note my reservation for Open Table to know4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA very special Indian restaurantFood was wonderful--very light, varied tastes. Particularly enjoyed the lamb in cilantro/mint sauce and the okra, which was crisp and delicious.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWow....amazing Indian food.Wow....amazing Indian food. Masala Art is second only to Rasika for the quality of its food. The pain puri are wonderful as are the curries. They also have a very nice wine selection.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAbove Expectations!Above and beyond my expectations. Well Done, Tenleytown! A hidden gem, within a stone's throw to the bus stop. Not a picturesque block by any means, but this place shines. Very nice ambiance and greatttt food. Very, very reasonable wine list.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe four of us loved everyThe four of us loved every single dish we ordered and the service was top notch.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother incredibly deliciousAnother incredibly delicious meal at Masala Art. The aromatic spices and fresh ingredients keep us coming back again and again.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat!Best North Indian food I have had in a long time.Definitely recommend and reasonable. Very welcoming friendly vibe3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMA lovely quiet lunch at MasalaA lovely quiet lunch at Masala Art on a Saturday. We have recently "discovered" the fabulous Murg Tikka Kali Mirch (chicken breast marinated in low fat yogurt and crushed black pepper) which is served in beautiful chunks that have been perfectly marinated and cooked. That plus the chicken tikka in spinach sauce provided not only a wonderful lunch, but enough leftovers to take home for another meal. The spices in all of the dishes at Masala Art are always perfect - if only we could nail it every time in our home kitchen!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food, ServiceMasala Art is my favorite Indian restaurant . Its cilantro naan is incredible, andthe butter chicken is the best in the city. They fod tends not to be that spicy, but you can ask for extra spices. We also love the somosas and the tandoori dishes are good as well. Half price bottles of wine Sunday-Thursday. It has a decent selection of vegetarian dishes although not as wide a choice as some places. The service is particularly good; we are regulars but it adds up to only a few times a year (along with take out). This last visit was for my daughter's eighteenth birthday, and they gave us all celebratory drinks (lassies for the 18-year olds and champagne for the over-21 crowd as well as dessert.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good andThe food was very good and the prices were quite reasonable.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat is not to love aboutWhat is not to love about Masala Art? My only complaint is that I do not live closer to it. The sauces on every dish are rich and flavorful. There is heat, but it is not for heat's sake. The naan's are spectacular and I've never had an appetizer I didn't like.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food and service.Wonderful food and service. I have returned since the first visit and it was well worth it.2/17/2013 12:00:00 AMContinued Fine ValueWe have been to Masala Art many times, and remain pleased by the very well prepared food at moderate prices. The extensive vegetarian selection is particularly good.1/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly outstanding food thatTruly outstanding food that we go back to often as a couple, with family and friends and our of town guests.
