A word from Masa Restaurant
Located in trendy Midtown, Masa is venerable Tallahassee restaurateur Lucy Ho's upscale enterprise. The Asian-fusion menu offers a creative, modern blend of Eastern and Western cuisines. A dinner favorite is the Chilean sea bass. In its casually elegant space, the restaurant's sushi bar also is popular. Try the tuna tartar with avocado on crispy wonton skins for lunch.
Masa is a great Asian-inspired seafood and sushi restaurant. Masa offers an elegant and stylish dining experience in a serene setting that reflects its Asian influence.

  • "Went here for my daughter's birthday. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We ordered tuna steak, duck, and Chilean Seabass. They all were prepared superbly. Even though the place was packed there is enough space between tables to feel like you are just with your group. It was a lovely evening!"

  • "Masa is an asian fusion restaurant that has a little bit of everything. The food is great and the service is good also. The dining area is not large, but it seems sufficient. Anything from sushi to thai food is available. The Volcano Oysters were wonderful. I would highly recommend this place."

  • "Masa has never disappointed me. It continues to be my favorite restaurant in town and lives up to my expectations every time. Even though I went on Valentine's Day (I used Open Table to make reservations weeks in advance) and it was extremely busy, the waiter took great care of our table, the food was served promptly and was delicious."

  • "I was promptly seated at the time of my reservation. A server was with my party within a few minutes. I was there for a business lunch. The food came out quickly and it was an excellent meal."

  • "I had the Tuna Steak slightly seared. It was great. The flavor was very fresh and you could taste the grilled flavor. The Philadelphia roll was excellent. You could taste the smokiness in the smoked salmon. The service and food was excellent. Made reservations and got right on in. Will definitely be going back."

  • "Know that you are going to spend a little money. BUT the food, service, and atmosphere are well worth it! Parking is a little of a pain, but nothing that would ever deter me from going back."

  • "Visited Tallahassee on a business trip and Masa was recommended. Ended up dining there 2 of our 3 evenings in town. Started out with the calamari appetizer. Tasty and different from any other calamari I've had. Portion size was adequate for 3. For dinner we tried Grilled Garlic Sesame Glazed Salmon and Pad Se-ew. Salmon was great, a tad dry but very flavorful. The Pad se-ew was the right spiciness (the server took great care to guage the orderer's desire). In fact, that dish was repeated on the second night. After seeing the sushi walk by the table so many times, I tried that the second night. Was not disappointed. Highly recommend, we will be back."

  • "This is a favorite for us when we go to Tallahassee to visit our son. Every time we go, we have great food and service! I love their creative, flavorful and wonderfully prepared dishes and the very friendly and attentive servers. They all know the menu backwards and forwards. Even with all of the good restaurants we have in South Florida, I always look forward to returning to Masa!"

  • "Masa has a unique and varied menu, and is not just for sushi lovers. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, which were non-sushi entrees, with good sized portions and a decent value for the price."

  • "The calamari appetizer was great and so was the peanut butter pie dessert. The Chilled wines always come in a chilled wine glass which keeps the wine cold. I was somewhat disappointed in the Chilean sea bass. It usually is very tasty but it lacked flavor and was somewhat mushy this time. Service was good."

  • "My only problem was that the restaurant only served beer wine and sake."

  • "Great food. Very good service. The spacing was a bit tight, as we were along the wall, and servers w/food trays could barely get by, whenever another person was nearby, serving the tables near us. Noise level was higher than usual (graduation weekend). Otherwise, all was very positive."

  • "Come for the fabulous sushi, well-chosen wine, and delicious hot dishes. We had Thai coconut curry, a sushi roll, a bok choy and fried tofu dish with perfectly cooked bok choy, amazing vegetable dumplings, and a calamari appetizer. They're one of the few Tallahassee fine dining restaurants open Sunday nights, and we are so glad! Delightful, savory meal. And with appetizers, entrees, and wine, we still didn't break the bank. Don't expect your wait staff to be well-informed, but do enjoy the seasonally fresh and wonderful menu."

  • "the service was pretty awful. They were packed and very busy so, I understand the wait staff being harried. But, there wasn't even so much as an acknowledgement that it took 15 minutes to get our drinks or refills on water or tea. We are loyal fans of their "cousin?" Azu and wanted to try the downtown version. The atmosphere tried to be cooler but our table for 6 rocked when you moved your plate and the lack of elbow room was irritating. As I said, the food was OK. It might have been better had it come out in a more timely fashion. However, the salad that I'd been warned was super spicy must have been mixed up with someone's request for plain lettuce. We may give them another chance but with Azu just down the road, we may not."

  • "Would definitely go back to Masa. Wonderful. The food was excellent. The Calamari appetizer and the Shrimp tempura was so deliciious. All four of us enjoyed our food and the waitress was very attentive to our needs. Ambience was nice and relaxing. It was great. would totally recommend this to anyone."

  • "The $8 lunch specials are a good deal: great food, and plenty of it. I had the Masa Chili Chicken, which was considerably better than the Mongolian Chicken my partner ordered. Western-style desserts can be disappointing at Asian restaurants, but the Lovin' Spoonful Cake was excellent, and others enjoyed the green tea creme brulee. I will definitely go back."

  • "Sushi was innovative, other dishes were not prepared in the typical Asian style. The spices were outstanding!"

  • "My family, friends, and I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Masa. It is our favorite restaurant in Tallahassee (although we don't get to Tallahassee as often as we would like). The food is excellent and the service is outstanding. There is something for everyone on the menu and the selection is awesome. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone!"

  • "The food is good, (some items are hit or miss, but the majority of things we have tried have been good). They have a great asian-fusion menu, and there's lots of 'classics' as well as some totally new twists. Do yourself a favor and order the cheese wontons and the edamame with black bean sauce for appetizers. (Yum!) As far as entrees go, the Mongolian Basil Beef is a favorite of ours, as well as the Thai Coconut Curry (which you can easily make 3 decent meals of). A few words of advice though. Bring a sweater, because they keep this place chilly, and be aware that this is not a "kid-friendly" place. Do yourself a favor, get a babysitter, and enjoy a night "off duty" instead."

  • "I love Asian food, so I've been to a lot of the different places in town. Comparing Masa to them, it's not bad, but I think you can get better for your money. I went here with a group of friends. We chose Masa because some people wanted sushi, some Thai, etc. Two of my friends got the pad thai, which I tasted and thought was ok. I got two specialty rolls, which again, I thought were ok. As far as drinks go, my favorite thing to get is an unfiltered sake, which I didn't see on the menu. I ended up getting a strawberry saketini, which was unique and I thought was pretty good, but not enough to pull be back there. Basically, I didn't end up feeling like I got ripped off, but I'd rather go someplace else."
