  • "Masa used to have one of the best lunch specials downtown, where you could pick 3 of a bunch of small dishes for $10. they got rid of it a few months ago, and while the new lunch specials do indeed give you more food, you have to pick 1 large dish instead of getting to try 3 smaller things. The food at Masa is great, and I loved being able to try 3 new things. At $10, it was an amazing deal, but I'd rather they have raised the price than done away with it. our waiter was very pushy- tried to upsell drinks 3 different times, then told my bf that his main lunch choice (after we ordered an appetizer) was "too small." Instead of getting his original $16 choice, he got $12 tacos. Strange move after attempted drink upselling. Won't be returning!"

  • "Nice service, drinks and nice setting. Entrees beautifully presented but did not taste as great as they looked. Swordfish and cauliflower were underdone and salsa topping was fiery hot, which we were not warned about and killed the taste of the fish.. Pork served on banana leaf was also tough. So the food did not quite live up to the concept or appearance."

  • "I took my friend here for her birthday dinner celebration before seeing a concert at Orchestra Hall. Despite the restaurant being very busy that night, the service was excellent and well-timed. I highly recommend the Diabolita, a margarita made with Habanero pepper-infused tequila. The sea bass entree was well-balanced and delicious and my friend enjoyed the Pork Shoulder entree. The Tres Leches cake with lime crema, served with a candle on top, was moist and flavorful, without being overly sweet - the perfect finish to a fantastic meal."

  • "We had a night out seeing a show at the Dakota, and decided to try dinner at Masa. We'd had great happy hours there in the past, and knew they had great appetizers, tacos and cocktails - and we weren't disappointed for dinner. Same great appetizers (ceviche, guacamole) and drinks (caipirinha, mojitos, sangria) to start our meal. Then we moved on to the entrees which were also great, high-end authentic mexican is how I'd describe it. The chicken dish was amazing, as was the pork shoulder. I wish we'd have had enough room on the table to try the sea bass dish."

  • "We brought our 16 year old to Masa for her birthday dinner on a Friday night. We chose Masa because she really like mexican food. We signed up a note that said it was her birthday and 3 people, including the manager came up to us and wished her a happy birthday. She thought it was magical! We had the Steak Chipotle, which was perfect, along with the carmelized chives, which exploded with flavor in your mouth. My daughter ordered the Tamales and was sad when she had to pack up half of it to save room for the Coconut Flan! If you need a special night out with the family or friends, Masa is a wonderful choice!"

  • "The lasy, who greeted us was super rude! I had a reservation for 3 people, and we had a 5-person group. I asked if we could use a 4-person table, which was available right when we got there, and she went off on me. She didn't have to be so rude to tell me that she could not use the 4-person table, but we will have to wait 10 minutes until a table for 5 was ready. The food is generally great, but NEVER get their chicken tacos. It's really not good because there's no flavor to the chicken."

  • "I ordered the Enchiladas de Carne and should have listened when the server said they were "mild". Mild and flavorless, I ate half of one at the price of 17.50. My friend ordered the Chicken tortilla soup. Perhaps, this is how authentic chicken tortilla soup is made, but its a first for me. It had a brown base, possible adobe? The server should have explained that it is very different from the typical chicken tortilla soup we have here in MN. The stuffed jalopenos and chips and salsas were very good. Excellent service. Tried it, wont be back except maybe for happy hour to try the 2.50 tacos."

  • "I'd passed Masa many times going up and down Nicollet during visits to downtown Minneapolis and was always curious about the modern-looking Mexican restaurant with the bright orange-lit bar. Made reservations for dinner and, upon arrival, my party was promptly seated. Our server was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food and drinks were both very good. It is quite noisy in the restaurant. Several times members at our table had to lean forward and ask each other to repeat something. All in all, though, I'd be happy to dine here again!"

  • "Great enchiladas, really great as good as you would find them in Mexico. Guacamole, just OK. Salsas were served very cold which is not ideal for food temperature. Beans are also incredible. They use epazote which is not common in the US cuisine."

  • "The food was very good-I had authentic Mexican tasting tacos. Hard to find tacos like this. But you definitely pay for the food-$12 for 2 little tacos for lunch. I chose this restaurant for a group of 5 for a birthday lunch, partly because online I saw they had $10 lunch specials (this was on the Masa website the same day I went there). When we arrived, I was told it wasn't going on anymore even though the website said it was. They didn't believe me. I later called and showed them where I found that information. I thought the restaurant would be apologetic, or honor the price they advertised, or given us some kind of deal for their error, but no. Great food, but not likely to return after that poor customer service experience."

  • "Masa was amazing! I brought my friend who had never been to Masa before. The restaurant is beautiful, the moment you walk in it's like being on vacation. Our server, Mark, was great, warm smiling the whole time. The wait assistant was very knowledgeable and explained our delicious salsas. The food was so good we ordered a second bowl of guacamole! The manager even stopped by to make sure we were enjoying everything! The new lunch special sounds amazing too. We will definitely be back!"

  • "This is a great spot for dining before a Saturday night concert at Orchestra Hall. A special gluten free menu was brought to our table for the diner on a gluten free diet. Love the margaritas! Lots of choices! But I didn't want to be sleepy during the concert, so I limited myself to one. Loved the guacamole, too. Probably the best I have had, but don't tell my son. I tell him his guacamole is the best. Exceptional, well trained, well managed wait staff. Everyone who came to our table was courteous, efficient, helpful and seemed to enjoy waiting on us."

That is generally the first clue as to what the rest of the meal is going to be and we were not disappointed. Our group had the soup, vegetable enchiladas. steak enchiladas and a very flavorful chicken dish that our server recommended. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff surprised us with a dessert to share. Will definitely go back!!"

A sauteed cheese appetizer served with yummy corn tortillas, shrimp adobo with cilantro rice for the entree, and then for dessert a wonderful chocolate flan which was super light and not overly sweet. For wine, I wanted a Spanish Red and our server made a fabulous recommendation. Speaking of our server, she was great! Very professional and polite and just the right amount of time between courses. We lingered over coffee and didn't feel at all hurried. The women's restroom was very spacious and you had to walk through the bar to get there. The bar is small, but it looked liked a lot of fun. Btw, the chips are the best I've ever had! I will definitely be back!"

  • "My boyfriend and I visited on a Saturday night since Masa had received positive reviews from several sources. Their cocktails were delicious (hence 3 stars); the food was the opposite. The homemade chips and salsas were well-executed but that was it. He had chicken enchiladas ($17.50 with no sides) with a side of rice ($4.99); I ordered chicken mole ($19.50), which was served with plantains and rice. The enchiladas were not terrible but were forgettable. The rice was AWFUL. Sticky, overcooked, and flavorless. My pollo con mole was incredibly overcooked and served drowning in sauce; I didn't finish it or want the leftovers. This seemed to shock the staff, who then awkwardly hovered and fretted around our table until we left. Won't be back."

  • "This spot is a lunch/dinner/happy hour-long vacation from this tundra we live in. Everyone is always so welcoming and the atmosphere and natural light is incredible, even in the winter. The restaurant week menu is probably the best deal in the city. So good that I've already been twice and it's only Wednesday. Wes and Rachel were my servers and were both were incredibly friendly and took great care of my guests and I. The managers (Michelle, Megan, and Larissa) each payed a visit to my table to see how everything was going. Even the wait assistant was great, he told us all about the salsas and answered the numerous ridiculous questions my dad had. I'm definitely coming back soon. Like, perhaps Friday. 3 times in one week is fine, right?"
