Diner Reviews
  • "Service was excellent. Food was blah, boring and overpriced. Room for a large group."

  • "We decided to come here before a Sunday afternoon concert at Orchestra Hall and really liked the food. They were still serving brunch but had a limited selection of lunch time food as well."

  • "Great food and service considering they served our party of 16! The infused tequila offerings are fantastic! Our favorite was the habanero and serrano pepper infused tequila! Nice flavor but watch out for that kick!"

  • "New clients enjoy having lunch at Masa. The ambience is business casual or just casual. The food is excellent and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. Reserve or arrive early for a window table and great people watching. Will bring clients back again and again."

  • "The chairs are the worst I have ever sat on in a restaurant. My steak was so salty I had to wash the pieces in my glass of water!!!Very disappointing"

  • "This restaurant has terrific food in a bright downtown setting. We had grilled chicken and tacos and they were both delicious. Great wine list. Sunday night is date night with a $50/couple special for 2 3 course meals and a bottle of wine. Great deal. We will definitely be back."

  • "Second visit to Masa while traveling from Milwaukee, and we loved it!"

  • "Waiter admitted messing up 1 of our friends dinner order. We were all served but she had to wait for her dinner to arrive at the table (maybe 10-15 min?). At the end, he offered separating our bills per individual. We were all presented with our bills but again when he arrived he gave this same friend her bill then realized and said out loud that he messed up her bill. She had to wait for her bill to be re-calculated (maybe 5-10 min). We all felt she should have either received her meal for free or got some type of good discount for these issues. But nothing was done and no significant apology either. So I rated Service as Poor for how these issues were handled."

  • "We dined at Masa before going to a music show at The Dakota next door. I had not eaten here in several years. They happened to be running a special that night $50 for two people - three course meal and a bottle of wine. Great deal! The service was very attentive and the food was really delicicious. Enjoyed the salad, a chicken with a mole/BBQ sauce and a fabulous tres leche cake for dessert. It was a great experience and I would go back."

  • "Masa is our go to restaurant on Orchestra night. The food is great and the service is excellent. And we're just a half block from Orchestra Hall so we only park once!"

  • "Our table was ready, the wait staff was attentive and friendly without being overly familiar. The food was delicious, and we remarked that the total bill seemed modest."

  • "Masa has a huge wine list and some unique cocktails, as well as terrific agua fresca nonalcoholic beverages. The food was very well presented and quite authentic in preparation. Portions were a bit large for our tastes. Service was incredibly attentive without being bothersome. Very popular place!"

  • "Excellent service and the food was amazing! Try the cucumber margarita- we've been dreaming about them since! Loved the atmosphere- very light and open. A few of us dinning have gluten issues, there was a TON of things available for us to eat, didn't feel restricted in anyway! Very gracious staff."

  • "Had wonderful food, service, and ambiance at Masa. The amount of food was more than adequate for the price. Would recommend highly for those looking for upscale Mexican food."

  • "The Hostess who lead us to our table is very welcoming and friendly. Food was fresh, big portion, beautiful presentation. Non-cocktail limeade with ginger is excellent. The best !! My vote, the best Mexican restaurant in the Twin Cities."

  • "We've dined at Masa plenty of times before. The food is what I'd call "Mexican Nouveau," and is all very well prepared. I have never had a bad meal there, and they have a good selection of Mexican beer. The atmosphere is high end, but it don't feel stuffy, just comfortable (except for the chairs -- geez!!!). The noise level is low enough that you can have a conversation easily. But the main reason that I like Masa is the food, which is fantastic."

  • "We had heard that Masa was good from friends, so we decided to try it. They have a comprehensive gluten free menu that includes dessert! The seven of us enjoyed our meals and we were doted on by the entire staff. Very comfortable atmosphere. I'd highly reccomend Masa!"

  • "Great Mexican food. Great place to go before going to the orchestra."

  • "I ate dinner here with a friend during a business trip. One of the few Mexican restaurants where you can get dishes with mole sauce, and they have several other innovative/nonstandard Mexican dishes. Chicken with mole sauce was tasty, although could have used a bit more salt, earthy/cocoa/nutty notes, and spice. Margarita was fine, space is well-designed and service was fine. They also have many Mexican restaurant standards, which I did not try."
    Dined on 6/3/2014
  • "I really enjoyed the Masa Cake and will come back to have more of this tasty menu item! I was impressed with the wait staff. On the 'could do better' Masa should offer a hotter salsa to accompany their dinners and make bigger margaritas. But most importantly, I will return."

  • "Masa has the BEST BRUNCH IN MINNEAPOLIS!! Such a beautiful spot inside and out!! Wish the weather would have a little nicer so we could have sat on the beautiful patio! So nice to finally have an alternative to the standard brunch you find EVERYWHERE else!! Food was fantastic with service to match! These guys really know what they are doing!! Can't wait to return!!"

  • "Good food, great salads, entree's very rich and a bit spicy, but hey, its Mexican. Outdoor seating was fun, but our waiter was a little off, messed up drink orders a couple times and seemed to have issues with tables around us as well. Salad was phenomenal and main entrees were all very good."

  • "We were really well pleased by everything we ate and drank as well as excellent service. The flavors were sublime. We will definitely return."

  • "Masa have very good Mexican food and a number of unusual, but not too unusual, dishes. I highly recommend it. And Date Night is an outstanding bargain"

  • "D'Amico continues to impress. Went to Masa for the Sunday Date Night special...hubby and I were blown away by the Huaraches and the overall quality of the food and service. Sat outside along Nicollet and enjoyed the usual downtown characters and a nice breeze while getting an amazing deal. Highly recommend the experience here! "

  • "interesting menu with good tacos, quesadilla shrimp appetizer. and tasty margaritas (but with too much ice and not enough actual drink); pleasant service and hostess; nice modern decor"

  • "My husband and I spent our 1st wedding anniversary evening at Masa, this past week. The experience was wonderful. We were married May 19-2013, with an afternoon reception. We ended our day at Masa, just the two of us. We've decided to make it a yearly tradition. We feel like we couldn't have chosen a better tradition for our wedding anniversary. The service and meal was absolutely impeccable. My husband's steak came out and was a bit overdone. Our server apologized profusely and had the chef make him a new one, but left his plate, so he could enjoy his sides and wouldn't be left with nothing while I enjoyed my meal. The manager came to apologize, and comped his meal. They also comped 2 desserts for us. It was a great night."

  • "I was in town for business and needed a place that would accommodate 6. Service was excellent. The ceviche and guacamole appetizers were great appetizers. The entire table loved their meals! Order the sea bass it was delicious!"

  • "Food was fine but waiter was annoying. Juvenile. Said things like "we are out of sea bass, yeah that sucks." I felt like he should be serving pitchers of beer in dinky town. Interrupted our conversations to see how we were doing. Told us everything "he" liked on the menu. Took more tip than I told him to from my money card. Bored us with details of his wife's job and his new child. As you can see, our particular waiter completely detracted from our dining experience. It was 6pm and they were already out of sea bass!"

  • "The concept of haute Mexican cuisine is an excellent addition to Twin Cities' restaurant diversity. By in large, our entrees ranged from good (Puerco Veracruzana) to excellent (Camarones con Calabaza a la Parilla). As for the appetizers, the guacamole was exceptional. However, the ceviche was bland, devoid of marinated fish, and an extreme disappointment. Service on the other hand, was superb. Our server paid us the right amount of attention while allowing we long-lost friends to catch up with one another during extended table talk. Melissa graciously made no move to rush us away from her table. To the contrary, she continued to facilitate good conversation with good food and drink. The postres were excellent. "

  • "I had the tortilla chicken soup. The "broth" was too salty - no distinct flavor or "personality". Clumps of melted cheese in the broth stuck to the shredded chicken - didn't add any interest to the soup. Good chips, light and crisp. Not impressed - wouldn't go out of my way to go back. I selected "scenic view" above because I had to select something in order to submit review."

  • "I went to Masa to celebrate being sworn in to the Minnesota Bar that morning with my husband. Neither of us had been there before and were very impressed with the recommendations of our server and the caliber of our food. To start, the chips and salsa served prior to the meal were the best chips I have had at a Mexican restaurant. They were warm, crunchy, and fresh - exactly what I look for! We ordered the Sea Bass Con Salsa Huichol Y Ensalada De Arroz and the Puerco Veracruzano - both on recommendations. You cannot go wrong with those choices. My husband, who has high standards for restaurant fare, was incredibly impressed with everything we had, as was I. We will definitely be returning to Masa in the future!"

  • "The place runs like a well oiled machine. There were at least 4 crew members that had some part of our service, all knowing where to be at the right time. Petty impressive. The food was very good, however was slightly on the high side of price for the portion size. Overall still a good place to dine... But probably won't be my regular place for Mexican. Great choice for a special outing."

  • "My husband and I went for date night. We love Mexican food, and Masa did not disappoint! They have a nice selection of margaritas, and we loved the guacamole (appetizer). My husband got the chicken mole and I got the shrimp -- both delicious, and a bit spicy (but not overwhelming). The restaurant is modern looking on the inside. There is one wall of windows looking out to the street. I wouldn't say it was "scenic," but I think it would be nice to sit by the windows. My only complaint is that I didn't really like our table, which was at the front of the restaurant, right by the open kitchen. But, we were 15 minutes late for our reservation, so maybe that was our fault. "
