I ordered the fish tacos and they were very flavorful However, the service was BEYOND slow. For example, we ended up bringing our check back to the waitress because she did not return to our table. This is not normally the case at Masa. I have been with large groups before (and this time it was just a table of 4) and never had a problem. Both times it was a pre-fix, family style menu. Both times the food and service was excellent. It is a pretty bright spot in the morning. This time, I experienced wonderful food and atmosphere, however the server was a little frustrating. He rarely understood our questions about the menu and once our meal was over the staff was practically pushing us out the door, despite there being other tables open. My friend and I were not ready to leave yet, as we were planning on having another drink and he seemed almost annoyed when we placed another order. I will certainly give this place another try, hoping for better service.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious, fresh Mexican foodInstead of your stereotype of greasy, cheesy Tex-Mex food, Masa concentrates on fresh, vibrant ingredients. It's delicious and also good for those of us who are gluten-free. They also have a tremendous lunch special: $10 for a choice of 3 small dishes including an excellent mango-jicama salad, a variety of tortas and tacos, and their excellent guacamole. Their margaritas are also top-notich and some are unusual. Finally, now that spring is here, they have a lovely sidewalk patio, and often have open tables on it even when other places closer to the center of downtown do not.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMMexican with a flair!What a fabulous dinner! The ambience is great, the food was fabulous. We had guacamole and cerviche for appetizers with our chips and both were excellent. The drinks we all ordered were very good as well. The entrees were generous, and the difference between Masa and your basic Mexican restaurant was the richness and complexity of the sauces. In addition, our server Ben, was great fun, a great help for dining selections and very attentive. Our server was a little slow, but really friendly and attentive when we got her over to our table. The lunch special where you get to pick 3 for $10 is amazing. I ordered that and got the skirt steak taco, guacamole and chips and carnitas torta. The taco and guac were absolutely awesome, the torta however was blah. It was fine, there just were no amazing flavors. My buddy got the enchiladas of some sort and that is his go to so he gets it often. The restaurant is vibrant and energetic, packed w/ people from Target Headquarters. Our server's recommendations were helpful and completely on point. The ceviche of the day was fresh and flavorful. I have had their Filet Mignon a couple times and LOVE it. The sea bass is mouth watering good. The shrimp was excellent as well. We had the ceviche del dia, which was a calmari,ceviche with mango red onion and cilantro, and was out of this world! The calmari was soft and buttery to the palate, combined with the mango and cilantro, the flavor was incredible. My favorite dessert (if you have room, and to share woule be advised) is the chocolate bread pudding with banana rum ice cream and fried plantains. YUM! Don't forget to try the cinnamon coffee. The last thing I want to do is go stand in a buffet line. On the other hand, brunch should be casual and not focussed on everyone selecting their entree. Family style just seems to fit the meal perfectly. It was a 3 course meal, and it was excellent. If you are a fan of southwest cuisine, I urge you to try Masa. We were delighted by our experience, exceeding our expectations and making for a perfect evening out. The food is excellent, combining fresh ingredients in unique offerings; the selection of margaritas is extensive; the ambiance allows for great conversation; the service was exceptional (our waitress was Stephanie), and the pricing is value conscious.
I was also very pleased with the ease of making a reservation via Open Table.
