  • "Masa is one of my favorite restaurants in the South End of Boston, but I've now been on two Saturdays for brunch and have been disappointed with their service and quality of food both times. They do have an extremely reasonably priced menu for Saturday brunch and a bloody mary at the lowest price in town, but I'd really like to see them hire more attentative servers and less hateful hosts on Saturdays!"

  • "Service was very slow. We were served our entrees at the same time as the table next to us which sat down 30 minutes after we did. Portions were very small for the cost. Very disappointing"

  • "I thought the food at Masa was great! My friend and I both enjoyed our meals very much. My only issue was with the service - took a really long time to have our coffee and water refilled. But overall a great place!"

  • "The brunch is nothing special, but the prices are good."

  • "Great dining experience. Food was tasty, drinks were on point, service was good (slow at times due to how busy it was, but nothing egregious). Would definitely recommend."

  • "We were there for restaurant week. It was very busy but everything still tasted great."

  • "I went here for restaurant week. They provide a coat check at the door. There's a decently sized bar area with high top tables. I really didn't enjoy my experience here. A few major CONS: -NOISE: I couldn't hear my date's voice and had to yell to say anything -SERVICE: the waitresses looked bored, weren't friendly/enjoyable, and our waitress spilled Red Sangria all over the table -FOOD: the food was disappointing, I ordered the chicken w/ beans, the chicken came on this creamy sauce that was EXTREMELY spicy, and I enjoy a hot spice, I don't enjoy being surprised or spice that burns your mouth and erases the flavor. In my chicken there was an extremely large, sharp piece of bone, probably 1.5" long with a sliced point on it"

  • "As a VERY basic meat & potatoes man, NOT very open to different foods, I was not totally convinced when my friend suggested this place he choice for his birthday dinner, I was extremely surprised, and happy to have taken the taste leap"

  • "Greg(the bartender) made me a made-to-perfection Margarita that i finished way before sitting down. Once brought over to the table, the waitresses were very polite, but forgot to mention that was restaurant week and only brought the specific menu when i requested. The food was delicious, but we had to eat quick since we had to be somewhere after and sat down a half hour later than expected. A little upset with the waiting, since we had a reservation. Once we sat down, service was great and the food was amazing. We were a party of 3, and 2 of us ordered from the "restaurant week menu". The portions were satisfying and delicious; the chef nailed it! Will definitely go back there and try other options from the menu."

  • "Great ambiance, but for the price the food is poserish. Average ideas averagely executed, 3/4 dishes poorly seasoned, textures not good. It's not gourmet just because you place the meat on top of the side with a fancy garnish instead of next to it (doesn't make it taste better)."

  • "Masa's $28 pre fixe dinner was an acceptable experience for a Friday night, despite a noise level was that had my party of 4 screaming at each other to be heard. Our server was pleasant and was responsive with our requests -- but we frequently were left wondering where she was, often sitting with empty water glasses. As for the food, I think it straddled the adventurous and the bland in a way I would expect for Restaurant Week. You could pick your way through the menu to find something fun. I was very happy with my soup and tasty pork shoulder. My partner's chile relleno, on the other hand, was flavorless and greasy. The wine flight pairings were a little strange. And the ice cream portion was WAY too small for apple empanada."

  • "I had dinner on Saturday night and the selection on the menu was great. I couldn't decide with so many choices. I did end up getting the salmon and it was fantastic. My only gripe was the noise level. I found myself yelling on occasion to my friend just to be heard. This may have been due to several large parties but it took the experience down a few notches. If you don't mind the noise then I would highly recommend this place for some great eats."

  • "First, lets start with the positives, the food was great; however our server was very bad. She did not have a lot of tables and people were there to help however she took a very long time to get to our table when we sat, after we ordered she never checked back on us and I had to wave her down just to get some sugar for my tea (that was now freezing cold) and when she finally came back with the sugar, she never asked if I needed a new cup of tea seeing that it was now cold, She never checked to see if we wanted another drink ($$$$ opportunity) or if we liked what came out. My dessert was cold (banana bread pudding) because it was sitting there in the back. Once it came to the table she never checked back with us if we liked our dessert."

  • "Our first visit to Masa occurred during Restaurant Week, but we will be back. The RW menu was delicious and imaginative, in spite of the bargain basement price. We especially liked the unusual take on Mexican classics, such as the chocolate tamale and the antique apple empanada. Between the two of us, we tasted almost every dish on the RW menu, and every one was a winner: butternut squash soup;corned beef brisket empanada with guacamole and radish salsa; roast chicken with black beans, peach salsa, and a huge vegetarian stuffed pepper with chipotle puree over polenta and spinach. Next time we'll ask for the tapas menu. As new South End residents, we are happy to have this interesting restaurant within easy walking distance."

  • "I am a server so I am usually more patient with hiccups or errors. However, there are three main components to being a server; be nice and friendly, take the order, and make sure the order came out ok. It shouldn't be rocket science but for some people it clearly is. My husband had been finished with his entrée for 20min when we finally got the waitresses attention for the check. I had taken one bite of my crab cake eggs benedict because it was INEDIBLE! She took my plate looked at it, and walked away. Didn't care that I had clearly not enjoyed the meal She never asked how everything was, she didn't even offer a to go box."

  • "We went to Masa to celebrate our son's birthday and wonder why we had not discovered it before. We loved the variety of food offered for brunch, all delicious, the place was jammed packed on a very cold Boston day and the wait staff was just fabulous. We plan to go back and make a favorite brunch and dinner place."

  • "We had heard good reviews so we booked for a Saturday night. Perhaps we found out why it was easy to get the reservation last minute. Our drinks tasted pretty bad. In fact - I've never sent margaritas back but this time I had to. They did a better job remaking them, but in a city with such great restaurants, I wouldn't go back. The waitress was really nice and some of our foo tasted good. Mussels were not so hot and our onion rings got deep fried with the onion skin still on. Overall - not a winner."

  • "Another amazing brunch at Masa! The Bloody Mary's are phenomenal (and spicy!) and the food is awesome. It's a great place to bring visitors. The only downfall we had this time was that the service wasn't as sharp. My girlfriend waited over 10 minutes for a cup of coffee."

  • "All the restaurants should learn from Masa on how to cook exquisite food. I enjoyed every bite of my dish. It was great to have something that I truly could not cook at home."

  • "Great items, great presentations, knowledgeable staff what more can you ask for?"

  • "The only positive thing I can say was that our server was really wonderful and friendly.. I actually felt really bad for her having to come back over and over to tell us that the kitchen was out of certain menu items. They ran out of empanadas and a couple of other things on the menu. My filet was good, mashed potatoes flavorless. my boyfriends salmon was beyond awful. The fish is not fresh, there is no way. Got an email from opentable saying we never chekced in to Masa. This place doesn't have it's act together and it's too bad bc it has such potential! Came here for our first date and was looking forward to returning but that will be the last time sadly."

  • "The place is cute and the music is good, but they took a while to sit us for our reservation, when we finally sat it was right in front of the door that does not close when people enter and exit so we had to continue to ask the staff to close the door, they were out of more than one menu item we tried to order, and the food took too long to come out."

  • "What a great deal for weekend brunch. The fried plantain empanada is so delicious. And I love the good selection of choices instead of just all omelette. I will definitely come back again very soon."

  • "We were first seated near the door which we found just too cold. They happily moved our party to a rear booth which we loved. Great staff, happy and made good suggestions. My scallop and duck appetizer was fantastic as was the Monkfish!.. Best margarita in town. All & all a great time."

  • "The manager at Masa is fantastic. She is very knowledgeable and took the time give us a mini education on Mezcal."

  • "We went for brunch on Saturday and had the ridiculously low priced "Fiesta Brunch". An appetizer, a main course and coffee. For $7.95! For the apps, I got the granola with yogurt, she got the fruit and we combined them to make a fruity, granloa-y, thing. The granola had pistachios and the whole app was great. We usually get the excellent Caramelized Plantain Empanada instead. For main courses, she got the huevos rancheros and I got the Santa Fe Style Eggs Benedict. Both with the upgrade to add chorizo. Both were good. I would have preferred the biscuits to be toasted or grilled and a bit more sauce, but, those are minor nits. We were there early in the morning so didn't have any drinks, but, the spicy bloody marys are excellent."

  • "Sitting at the bar at Masa is a must. In addition to he $1 tapas and spicy margaritas - the bartenders are awesome. I've been a couple times and have found this as a fact each time. Great food and drink recommendations and just the right amount of conversation/attention. Be sure to try the Jalisco Manhattan with some crazy homemade bitters - it was excellent."

  • "I came here for Valentines day. I was disappointed because there was only a prix fixe menu and no a la carte options, and I hadn't had any warning that that would be the case. This restaurant is really crowded and a little uncomfortable, and it is for these two reasons that I only gave 3 stars. The food was really delicious, but the portions were pretty small for the price. While I had a great brunch experience here in the past, my dinner experience was just ok. I would probably go back when it's not a holiday and give them another chance, but I don't think I would return on Valentine's Day."

  • "While the food was good, there was nothing special about this place. The lighting was much too dark to read the menu, or even see the food we were eating. Other tables were using their cell phones to shed light on their menus."

  • "Reservations are a must! Very accommodating in moving my time back a few hours. Service was good but had to wait an unusually long time in between courses. The menu was okay. It was good but I've had a better selection there in the past. Overall was good and I would still come back again!"

  • "Masa had very good food; kind of a southwest vibe. The kitchen or waiter forgot a meat add on for my friend, and it took a while to get a refill on coffee... they seemed to be slammed. Other than that, the experience was good and the food was good. I would come back, especially since the food is very reasonably priced for a city brunch."

  • "Food was simply amazing. Had the huevos rancheros and I can't wait to have it again. The cornbread was very moist and all 3 spreads were excellent. Unbelievable the meal prices are so low. Service was spotty but no major complaints. I will definitely return! Highly recommended."

  • "The food never disappoints and the drink list is superb. My wife went for a Habenero infused margarita and it was quite tasty. The have a great variety of cocktails, beers and wines. The avocado salad is quite delicious, as were the short ribs and the salmon. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for excellent food and great drinks."
