Diner Reviews
  • "Based on my three visits here thus far, I'm so impressed with all their staff, and our server Gabby was no exception! Favorite dish is the wok-fried calamari...lightly breaded and wok-fried, then tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce and topped with scallions. Cauliflower is also one of my favs. Tahi pumpkin soup is amazing, as well as the black cod and shrimp and crab lumpia. Seaweed-jicama salad is also quite tasty. Chef Felipe is amazing. He not only gives great recommendations on dishes, but checks in to ask for feedback on the dishes. Really enhances the whole food experience! Only been here for dinner so far, but I've heard their brunch is great. Will be doing brunch here soon..."

  • "A little louder than I expected for a calm, quiet dinner. Definitely an energetic feel with great food and service. Would go again. Nothing on the menu disappoints. Great wine list with large range of flavors and prices."

  • "The roasted cauliflower was too salty for me, but the calamari, glazed salmon, and yucca fries were brilliant. My server was a high energy pill and very accommodating, but she disappeared toward the end of my meal. (I had to have the hostess find her so I could pay.) The lounge-y music gave the place a nice ambiance."

  • "I found their customer service to be unacceptable; they were inconvienent even though the place was empty for the two hours we were there on a sunday evening. One of the servers was aggressive in removing the used plates and cutlery, and was uncomfortably close."

  • "Overall the food was good however the pacing was off. All of our small plates came out in less than 20 mins. It felt very rushed. Could definitely do a better job on that front."

  • "While all of the food was very good, the service was tremendous. Barbara took excellent care of us! Be sure to ask for her."

  • "We went here excited for brunch and were disappointed almost immediately after we arrived. First this place does not serve pancakes or Wales, both staples of brunch. In addition almost two_thirds of everything in the brunch list is omelets but we were told the chef was not cooking omelets? The only good thing about this place was the bottomless mimosas. Ayer being told basically there was no food, I definitely got my money's worth of mimosas. Oh and the nice ambiance as well."

  • "Hands down, the best brunch deal in town. We love going with a group of friends because the food is great and the service is very attentive. We are hoping to have our post-wedding brunch there!"

  • "Went for bottomless brunch and ate a lot! Good food but not fantastic."

  • "Second time had been to Masa14 and it was just as good as the first time. The food is great, tasty and fresh. Lots of interesting choices for everyone, also their cocktails are great!!"

  • "Most of the food was very good. We loved the pork belly steamed rolls, mushrooms w/ goat cheese, and the crispy Okra. Everything on the menu is interesting so its a little hard to choise. Go with some friends so you can try many items. We enjoyed several cocktails and desserts as well. Everything was very good. I've already told several people to go to Masa 14"

  • "Now I can't complain about my unlimited supply of lycée bellinis (they were fantastic) and the upbeat and energetic service we received but I will say this is not your traditional Sunday brunch. Don't come hungry and certainly don't bring your 6'5" boyfriend who you'd like to supply with needed energy. Small plates of a non traditional breakfast situation definitely put me in the mind of traveling and eating in Europe. Mostly Spain. We tried everything on the menu and although the plates were small I can't say one dish stood out to me as completely delicious. I loved the arugula but I can't remember falling for anything else. I was going to give a three but I think the food deserves 2.5."

  • "Met friends there for happy hour so we stuck to the happy hour menu. Drinks and tapas were good, especially the shrimp rolls and the fried okra. Wait staff was hit-and-miss. A couple were very good, including the bartender who also waited on tables but the first server and food runners were slow, inattentive, and dismissive. They are introducing more sushi. It still needs some work. The two rolls we tried - seared tuna and a spicy one - were bland. Decent place for happy hour as long as you get the right waiter or waitress."

  • "Had a wonderful time at Masa 14. Our server, Cat was so friendly and did a great job and we appreciated the manager stopping by to say hello. The food"

  • "Took my brother, who was visiting, here for the bottomless brunch. Food was excellent, great variety. The food came out quickly but some dishes could have been a little bit warmer. Some of the egg dishes were just barely warm which was fine, it would have been excellent if they were warmer. Only complaint is that our server made it difficult to switch between cocktails. They have several brunch cocktails that we wanted to try but my table pretty much stuck with just one variety because it was difficult to ask to switch it up."

  • "I've been twice with two different friend groups and in both cases the table sent back food that tasted terrible."
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "We were a group of 6 that ordered a bunch of small plates. There was enough of each plate for all of us to try, with a but left over. Standouts were the salmon, meatballs, and flatbreads."

  • "We made a reservation through Open Table with no issues. The food and drinks were amazing. We went on a Saturday night so the place was packed but we still received great service. I would go back every day for the pork belly buns!"

  • "We took a bachelorette party here for brunch and it was a HUGE success! It was such a fun day! They kept the drinks coming and we got more food than we could eat!!"

  • "I went to Masa 14 this past weekend for brunch. We opted for the "bottomless brunch" special -- $35 which covers bottomless brunch dishes AND bottomless brunch drinks. Awesome! I tried out the lemon lager, which wasn't spectacular, but the Masa Mimosa was pretty delicious. I liked every food item I ordered. The brunch sides, in particular, are great (grits, home fries, cauliflower, and fried yucca). We were seated back by the kitchen which wasn't ideal, but the food came SO quickly, so it made up for it."

  • "We had the special that includes three small plates and a glass of wine per person. The wine was quite good (not some lousy house wine) and the small plates were delicious and the reflected innovative recipes that one gets at Sandoval's restaurants. Our waitress suggested that we get 5 plates for the two of us and share a dessert plate. This turned out to be an excellent suggestion. The restaurant is designed as a bar and one cannot escape the noise from the bar or the loud music; so not ideal for a romantic night out. That said, it is a great place for dinner if you happen to be in the neighborhood or are attending either the Studio or Source theaters."

  • "I have been to Masa 14 a number of times, and every time is great. I love the brunch special, $35.00 all you can eat and drink. I love the ambience and the service! Great spot!"

  • "Some old friends and I met for brunch at Masa 14. None of us had been before, so we took advantage of the bottomless brunch and tried almost everything on the menu. The small plates format made it ideal for tasting and sharing. Overall, we enjoyed everything our energetic server brought to us. $35 for bottomless food and alcoholic beverages makes Masa 14 the best brunch value I've seen in DC. I definitely recommend it!"

  • "I went there for brunch with a friend for my birthday. We did the bottomless brunch, which is a great deal. between the two of us, our bill was a little over $70.00, but we ate and drank well over $100 worth if we ordered everything a la carte. The portions are perfect for you to try multiple items on the menu. I love the the Latin-Asian fusion and the atmosphere was also perfect. While we ate we got to rock out to 80s rock music the entire time, which only added to the fun. It was also wonderful that they have a gluten-free menu and the staff was knowledgeable about that as well"

  • "The food was not memorable enough to go back, except for the fois gras, which was in it of itself just so amazing, we reordered it and had seconds. Other than that, not impressed at all. Trust me, everything was good, it just wasn't 'really good'. We didn't leave wanting to go back for anything other than the fois."

  • "I have been to masa 14 a few times before, and I had always had a wonderful experience and enjoyed the food. However, this time the food was mediocre and not as flavorful. The meat kept coming out over-cooked, and the food took extremely long to come out. It took the waitress 10 minutes to bring us a menu. I'm afraid the quality and service is starting to go downhill from here."

  • "Amazing brunch and out waiter Rondaldo was awesome. He brought us so many plates that he figured we would like. He also kept bringing us drinks and even got us shots at the end. Very well done brunch (awesome food, great drinks, well worth the $35) and must do if friends are visiting."

  • "I can't say enough good things about this place. I've been several times now and it's consistent - amazing service, probably the best in the area, delicious food, and a buzzing atmosphere that is energetic but not noisy and annoying."

  • "Arrived early in the evening, preconcert. Modest noise level, easy conversation. Very good, attentive service. Calamari was excellent, great flavor, texture and the right amount of heat. Brussel sprouts were nice and savory. Salmon was perfectly cooked and delicious. Very good experience."

  • "Had my birthday dinner at Masa 14 on Sat. night 2-15-2014, the first time I went to this restaurant. There were 4 of us so we ordered a bunch of dishes, including the crunchy shrimp (not really that crunchy), proscuitto flatbread, spicy tuna temaki, steamed jasmine rice, beet salad, wok-charred edamame, roasted mushroom cazuela (so small!), ancho rubbed beef brisket (a brick of beef!), crispy brussels sprouts (the first one they sent out was cold, so they redid it & then didn't charge us for it), fried tofu & pan-roasted cauliflower. (I would like to add more, but the review length will not allow me). :("

  • "The bottomless brunch at Masa 14 is not to be missed. The tapas is fun and the unlimited drinks gets everyone in a good mood. Very sexy and the city, and highly recommended for a girls brunch. Would definitely go back."

  • "Good and unique food. Loved the twist in most traditional Latin dishes that people would normally be scared to tried unless they are cooked and presented in a unique way. I highly recommend the seaweed/jicama salad - this is a great fusion dish, which is the main theme at the restaurant. The ambiance was fun, and it's definitely more catered towards the younger crowd. You also cannot beat the bottomless mimosas for brunch. Despite how busy the restaurant was, the servers were very attentive and checked on our table quite often. Overall, great food and great value and certainly recommend if you are looking to try something new."

  • "Their $35 unlimited tapas and drinks (mimosas, bloody marts, bellinis and more) brunch is totally worth it! Tons of delicious small plates to choose from, as well as boozy drinks. Best to go here with at least 3 or 4 people so that you can order different plates and share a bit of each without getting too full. My girlfriends and I definitely got our money's worth. Nice ambiance as well - nice Spanish guitar music and I'm a fan of their decor. Highly recommended! Keep in mind that they are very popular, so making a reservation a few weeks ahead of time is usually necessary."

  • "I took a friend out for her birthday and we were quite hungry to start, so we ordered a variety of carnivorous tapas. Pork buns, shrimp ceviche, mussels, chicken wings, and beef brisket. I was a little worried that this mix would be strange, but I shook that off quickly because with every dish, I wanted more. The flavors were distinct, yet compatible. From those tapas, I found the mussels and brisket outstanding, oh and the pork buns. By the end, we even considered having buns for dessert, but decided our bellies would want us to ease up. The meal was perfectly satisfying and now I'll be eyeing Masa 14 for their endless brunch!"

  • "I have to start this review with very high praise for our server Mohammed. He was super attentive, insightful about the menu and just a genuinely excellent server. He really made the experience fun. The menu of Latin/Asian fusion is very interesting. We were a party of three and, as such, we sampled a great many of the small plate options. The Tuna Sashimi Flatbread and the Prosciutto Flatbreads were particularly good, as were the Wok-Fried Calamari and the Pork Belly Steamed Buns. The Thai Pumpkin soup was also a very pleasant surprise. The Spicy Tuna Temaki wasn't really suitable for sharing, and the tuna in this dish was particularly fishy. The Yucca fries were the only total disappointment on the menu; bland and boring - skip it."
