Diner Reviews
  • "Been to Mas Sake plenty of times and always had a great time, but the place has gone into dis-repair, and it showed by the place being pretty empty. The bathroom flooded the dining room when we were there ... the wait staff was perfectly fine, and fun, but the food was only okay and nobody mentioned if we should even be eating in a restaurant with the facilities issue."

  • "Mas Sake is always a good place to go for a special occasion or just a night out with a big group of friends. It's a fun place to take out of town visitors or if you feel like a night of Sake bombs."

  • "They have a great diet sugar free pomegranate guava kiwi mojito!"

  • "Was looking for a place to have some dinner with friends in town on a Friday night. The sushi was so so. It didn't have a great freshness to it. All the waitresses look like strippers. Prices were reasonable. It is too loud to carry a conversation. The hostess spend most of the night dancing next to our table and then some guys showed up and were eating sushi while holding the plate and standing next to us."

  • "Mas Sake is great for a group that is looking to go out on the weekends. The music is loud and there is a love DJ. The service is great and all the staff is fun and friendly"

  • "Went with a group of 8, and it was best for that. The ambience is quite good. Loud, but in a group you can still chat if you are willing to raise your voice. The food is good, but nothing was spectacular. The rolls were interesting, but there was no classic sushi to be had.Good place to start a night out."

  • "Everything but the service was good. Service was absolutely terrible. Our group all got their good at different times, as much as 40 minutes apart"

  • "We love Mas Sake! We make it a point to eat here whenever we are in SF."
    Dined on 8/16/2013
  • "Don't give options for 10:30 pm reservations if you will seat the group at 10:55 pm, and tell them the bar and kitchen closes at 11 pm so they need to hurry up. If you are going to kick out people and hurry them up, then stop giving reservations at 9:30 pm so they have enough time to enjoy. It's very disappointing and the host doesn't really care about that with poor service attitude."

  • "We had reservation at 7.30 pm and got some appetizers & drinks until 8.30 pm. Then the waitress came us and told that we will need to leave at 9pm because they reserve the table for someone else. So left the place without dinner. It was really bad experience for us and I would never suggest this place to someone else."

  • "We had a great time. Food is just OK, but our server Stephanie was awesome! Would definitely recommend to friends."

  • "I've been on a Saturday night when it was packed with loud music and on a Monday night when it was empty and silent. The sushi is pretty good."
    Dined on 6/17/2013
  • "service not always very great, partly due to loudness. But super fun and quality of food beats many others"

  • "we went on a Tuesday night @ 7pm to use a Bloomspot coupon, so we didn't expect much ambiance/scene. It was very quiet. Cool decor & may be a scene on other nights. Sushi was pretty good."
    Dined on 3/12/2013
  • "Food was good but not creative. Same ingredients repeatedly used. Music too loud fir dining. Happy hour OK. Wine list not impressive. Strong lychee martini."
    Dined on 2/28/2013
  • "Food and service was good, but just on the pricey side. Vegetarian stir fry noodles for $14 and another $2 for chicken is a little expensive! The food was good tho! We had a Karen roll, which I recommend. Fried crab balls was like crab cakes. Ahi tuna on rice cakes was yummy too and of course you can't go wrong with fried calamari."

  • "their ayce is pretty good deal but watch out as they don't honor this special sometimes depending on holiday weekends."
    Dined on 1/20/2013
  • "The garlic beef is amazing! The crab balls are to die for! And the fact that they have soy paper on the menu makes ordering rolls with a picky friend easier. Love this restaurant!"

  • "This place felt more like a night club than a eatery. The DJ'ed music was better than the average sushi here but beef appetizer was great w/the my seaweed salad. Food was slow to come out but it allowed more time for drinks & conversation I guess. I felt I had to yell over the good music at times a few decibels lower would have been better. When the food came out the darkness and red mood lightings washed out the presentation of the food I could not identify what I was eating. One LED light well placed at the table would have made a world of a difference. They should invest in a small 8x8 dance flloor! Overall it was a fun expierence great for preparty before a club night out on the town, can be a bit pricy though."

  • "It's hard to be there if you are trying to have any conversation with the group. Food was decent. Services was slow. The only requirements to work there appear to be good looking and a C+ cup size. If you are not there for the services, the food but just to enjoy the loud music and the atmosphere, it's not a bad choice."

  • "Very good selection of sushi and the happy hour pricing is fantastic. Wish they had better selections on appetizers, but the sushi is great and lots to choose from."

  • "Great Sushi, Very happening spot on the weekends. Wine list is kind of Blah, they could put a little more effort into it"
    Dined on 1/14/2013
  • "The appetizers and items off of the 'specials' menu were better than the actual sushi rolls. They had a DJ playing music which was fun but difficult to talk over at times."

  • "It was a wonderful please to celebrate a birthday. We had a group of six which was perfect for ordering a bunch of different rolls, sides and appetizers to share amongst each other and taste different options. The top three items we ordered are: garlic steak, crunchy California roll in soy paper and the chicken potstickers.."

  • "Had a little bit of a rough start with a rude hostess, but it was all fixed in the end. I think she was just overwhelmed with the huge crowd of people that were there. She seemed to feel really bad about the way she acted. The waitress was wonderful and I love love loved the food!"

  • "If you are looking for a spot that serves good food and enjoy your conversation...this is NOT the place. While the menu is full of choices, the food is not up to par for this foodie. As for conversation, don't go late on a friday or saturday as you can still eat...but with the DJ spinning, speaking a foot apart is ideal for hearing the company you're with. The restaurant isn't the biggest bulding making the loudness of the DJ overpowering and just uncomfortable. All in all...I came here after purchasing an Opentable Spotlight deal but probably will not return unless there's improvement."

  • "The venue is much smaller than the website makes it sound. Our server was awesome; quick and great attitude. The music was really good too but they closed really early and pretty much kicked us out. My friend forgot his credit card and went back 20 minutes after we left and they charged him a 20% gratuity for "abandoning" his card."

  • "The food here was pretty good. I'm a huge sushi fan and found it above average. Service was fast and attentive. The only issue I had the the noise level. I realize that this is supposed to be a party restaurant with a full bar etc.... but the DJ had the music BLASTING with only 5 people in the restaurant. I was at a 2 person table with my date and ould not even hear anything he was saying. Music is overdone a bit. Not only that but they were taking requests from some chick for Nsync dand Bact kstreeys. The ambiance could definitely better.. ugg"

  • "Mas Sake is a great way to get your weekend night started. The sushi is great. It's a little noisy if you plan on having a conversation. The service is just ok. I've had my meal messed up before but that was probably because it is so noisy that she couldn't here me. I like the atmosphere with the dj. All in all I would recommended for a fun night out or an awesome pregame!"

  • "Overall this place is okay for starting a night out. One thing I didn't like was that the music was extremely loud and it was difficult to have a coversation with even the person sitting next to me. I liked the food and the selection of music they played, but didn't like the headache I had when I left. I felt like it was a dance club that served sushi and that at any moment the waitresses would turn into go-go dancers or strippers (they were dressed very skimpy)."

  • "Love this place! Great venue to have dinner with a large group of friends that like a vibrant atmosphere and live DJ. It can get a little crazy, but we like crazy, especially if we're surrounded with delicious freestyle sushi, awesome friends, and great music."

  • "Solid sushi. Trendy atmosphere. Good for the 20-something crowd. Zushi Puzzle has better sushi in direct comparison, but Mas Sake's atmosphere is great."

  • "Wouldn't come here again for a dinner date, but it's great for kicking off a bar crawl or some other night out."

  • "More of a bar than a restaurant - way loud! Felt rushed like I was taking up a table from someone else. Better sushi joints out there in this city. Don't understand how it made your top ten?"
    Dined on 4/21/2012
  • "This place had amazing sushi - the food was excellent. The service and the ambiance - not so much. The hostess was rude, my menu had gum in it, and all the menus were wet because we got there just at 6pm when they started service for the night. Not being local to San Francisco we didn't know that it would be like a nightclub at 6pm on Sunday. The music was so loud and there were a lot of people who were clearly intoxicated walking around throughout the restaurant. Our waitress was nice but messed up some of the orders and took a while to bring out our food even though we were one of the only parties in the restaurant initially. All in all - GREAT food, but if you're looking for a relaxing Sunday night meal...this place is not for you."

  • "Very loud, nightclub-feel - good for large sake-bombing groups!"

  • "This place is really fun to go to for birthdays or special events. It is a bar scene though, expect loud music and lots of drinking. This is my personal favorite sake bombing/sushi place in the city. It is a little spendy and the waitresses seem to care more about drinking than serving but the atmosphere and location make up for those minor issues!"
