Diner Reviews
  • "We were a group of six and had a wonderful dinner. We tried a variety of different dishes, all available on the four-course menu. Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented. On the main courses, we tried the pork, quail, chicken and gnocchi - all are to be recommended. Even though the four courses are described as partial (for example, "two half appetizers") there was plenty of food, even for the big eater in our group. The service was friendly and professional. We had lots of questions and the server had all the answers. It is a smallish room (very welcoming) and it was not at all full - I imagine that it could feel somewhat cramped and much noisier when it's crowded."

  • "We had a lovely brunch meal there on a nice sunny day and sat outside however we were very disappointed by the moribound surroundings.Every plant, shrub or small tree maintained by the restaurant was dead. For the beginning of April I was pretty disappointed that Mesa didn't keep up their plants. The experience would have been so much more enjoyable on a nice sunny Sunday afternoon."

  • "This was our first visit to Mas (la grillade ) and our evening from the moment we arrived to when we departed was exceptional. The balance of ingredients of all our dishes made our meal extremely delightful, along with a fine bottle of wine to compliment the overall essence of our evening. We will return soon and look forward to another quiet evening of soft conversation and a meal that make our taste buds sigh."

  • "Really lovely - warm, tentative service. Excellent wine, food, atmosphere. Really expensive. Just know that going in. But overall a really fab experience. Amazing deserts"

  • "The staff was vey thoughtful with suggestions and took extra care to accommodate my allergies. We had lunch in the cheery, sunny dining room and at our own pace. The oysters were my favorite, and every dish was creative and perfectly prepared. I focused on the seafood, which was wonderful quality. The desserts were original and delicious- I especially liked the pink peppercorn tart! We had a few delicious glasses of wine, especially an elegant Morgon. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "Our brunch at Mas on March 16th was the first time we ate at the restaurant and we look forward to going back for dinner. It is a pretty space with tables far enough apart so that conversation is easy. On a cold March day, there were flowers and a warm greeting. The menu was interesting with many unusual and delicious combinations. The $28 prefix was a bargain for the quality and size of the portions and included sides which were outstanding. The oysters were incredible. Breads were superb. The restaurant has a very interesting wine list with a range of prices and boutique wines. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive and his suggestions were spot on. We will be back."

  • "you know sometimes not everything or just a small portion of a dinner is perfect, this time at MAS la grillade everything was great, started with the very warm welcome at the entrance, followed by "warm" bread with great butter, wonderful experienced help with our wine choice by our captain and amazing food that followed. every course was just right on, taste great, seasoning well balanced and creative (my favorite that night: the celery soup with lobster and pomegranate, SUPER). congratulations to the whole team. will see you very soon, for sure :-)"

  • "When we sat down we were greeted by the sommelier to take our order and presented with the menus. When i looked at the menu i was a bit taken aback. I eat out a lot but much of what was offered was a bit out of my ordering range. My wife and I were at first feeling a bit out of comfort zone (especially since this is a moderately priced restaurant). However, as soon as our waiter came by (we sat upstairs Saturday night), he made us feel so much more comfortable. Here's where it gets great. They have a 4 course and 7 course prix fix menu (we didn't do either) and you could mix and match. I was so surprised that such a fine restaurant would accompany you with such flexibility. We mixed and match and they prepared the best duck ever!"

  • "I cannot rate Mas Grillade too highly! Therestaurant is a gem. The food is wonderful. I haghly recommend the chicken and the duck. The duck is especially commendable for its excellent preparation and exquisite taste. The service is always gracious and helpful. All in all, it is a wonderful dining experience."

  • "My husband and I visited Mas (Grillade) for a Saturday mid day brunch. The food was outstanding and we are eager to return for brunch, a great value with a $28 pre fixe menu or to try dinner. The restaurant was debuting a new brunch menu with so many appealing sounding choices it was hard to decide. He had the croque Monsieur, I had the fabulous grilled cheese with a side of grilled romaine -excellent choices. Service was very attentive and the atmosphere quite elegant. A lovely upscale find in the Village."

  • "From my limited meal, everything was very good. Service was excellent, ambiance very nice. Had a Curried Shrimp soup, soup was good, not outstanding, but the Shrimp ion the soup, amazing. Duck Confit over Polenta, very good, amazing taste and flavor profile, my preference would have been a crispy skin on it, I think it would have taken up to another level. Will definitely return."

  • "REAL FIND, small enough to be lovely. yes seems slightly upscale priced but the small margin of 10% gets you great farm to table. 2 split xclnt romaine salad + duck entree. Two ordered gravlax salad +rowitasted oysters starters then split tuna entree. They're happy to mix match anything from menu - much are tasting offerings + page of a la carte. With no attitude, and beautiful presentation they split dishes. 3 cocktails (scotch on rocks) + 1 beer, plus2 fab desserts. 4 ice cream/ sorbets: Salted caramel, honey thyme, sorbets of ginger lime and chocolate were wonderful, same for small slice of creamy chocolate cake with candied kumquats etc. Tab $270 or $135 per couple incl tax+ tip. ASK FOR TABLE in FRONT if 4- quiet PRIVATE"

  • "Everything about Mas La Grillade is simply perfect in the most understated way, with a keen attention to detail across every aspect of the dining experience. The food is beautiful, the flavors and textures nuanced. The service is attentive and impeccable. The decor is simple and lovely, all slightly rustic and fresh flowers. Its everything you want in an upscale restaurant, but done with sort of an easy grace that makes it perfectly comfortable. Its worth noting that if you get the chance to go during restaurant week, this is one of the few places where you'll experience the exact same quality and level of service as you would if you were spending far more."

  • "This is the second time I've been at Mas Grillade for a Restaurant Week Lunch. They couldn't have been nicer. And the food is spectacular--light, fresh and delicious. The parsnip soup with grilled shrimp was sublime. The fish was perfect and the semifreddo for dessert was just right. The only faux pas was that the waitperson handed me my dessert across the table rather than place it in front of me. This same thing happened that last time (different waitpreson). Maybe its their signature move!"

  • "Everything was beautifully prepared and delicious. Excellent range with both the meat and fish dishes. Service did not match the level of the food. Where our table was situated often created a bottleneck with the servers that needs to be addressed."

  • "Dinner at Mas La Grillade thjs past Sunday night was extraordinary, and I was very happy to see that it has continued to improve. My guest and I brought our wine, so we asked the kitchen to match things if they could. They did, with some stunning dishes, including a perfect roast quail that was among the best I have had in the City. Little extra dishes were also outstanding, and the quaity of preparation was evident throughout. Service was attentive; the waitstaff friendly and knowledgeable. Itemns appeared disappeared smoothly and without intrusion into our conversation. My guest, from LA, remarked that in LA this would be among the top two or three restaurants, based on this experience."

  • "Offered a great lunch menu for restaurant week which gave me the perfect tease to come back for dinner. It's a small place but cozy with two floors and a skylight. I will come back!"

  • "My friend and I had lunch and chose the Restaurant Week menu. I tasted all four dishes - two appetizers and two entrees - and they were all excellent. The dessert was the best part - light, fluffy and just the right sweetness. I'd go back there to try the regular menu!"

  • "Though the food and service was good, this establishment seems to be enamored of itself and presents the new school of limited menus and extravagent 4 and 7 course meals with extremely expensive wine parings. I know tha when you visit an establishment such as this you should call first to see what is cooking first, my mistake."

  • "This year my wife and I decided to skip on a big Valentine's Day dinner and I cooked instead. We decided to splurge a little the next day and came here to try out the 7-course tasting menu. My wife got the wine pairing as well, while I got a couple of drinks off the cocktail menu. Everything was tasty, we had a great time, and our service staff was attentive and friendly. There are at least 2 of the dishes in the tasting menu that I remember fondly today, almost a week later. The scallop with razor clams and the striploin. Overall, I recommend this place."

  • "The whole evening was just perfect. It's obvious from the moment you walk in that a great deal of thought and caring goes into everything they do. With a farm-to-table philosophy, the menu options were just right for the season and evening; on a cold winter's night, we started with flavorful and soul-warming soup followed by lamb for my companion and duck breast for me. The atmosphere is both comfortable and elegant with white tablecloths and flowers and votives yet never stuffy. The service was attentive without being fussy or disruptive. I have the great fortune of going to many nice restaurants for business, and Mas La Grillade stands out from the crowd with the perfect blend of excellent food, great service and warm atmosphere."

  • "What an awesome place. We took the 4-course tasting menu and were surprised to find out you could replace any course without being penalized. Our waitress was very friendly without being over-attentive. The wine list was amazing and were seated in an upstairs quiet corner that couldn't have been better. We will definitely go back there!"

  • "So when every plate comes to the table - I imagine that the chef and staff just spent an enormous amount of effort caring about every detail of everything on that plate starting with the taste - extending to the presentation - all the way to how it's placed on the table. This is just amazing."

  • "We're happy to choose Mas (Grillade) for special occasions. You eat and drink well, often including foods you don't normally make at home. I like their willingness to make a 3-course meal out of any 3 items on the menu that look interesting. The service is attentive and thorough while remaining friendly. It feels as though the people who work there really love it. And the bar makes exceptionally good mixed drinks."

  • "We loved our first visit to Mas Grillade, comfortable seating, outstanding food, great wines by the glass and an interesting list to explore more next time. The service from greeting to departure was just perfect: attentive, friendly, informative, unintrusive, each dish arriving just at the right moment, beautifully plated and served. We look forward to our next visit. Thank you!"

  • "Everything on the menu was surprisingly even better then it sounded when it arrive to our table. The servers were all super attentive and knew how to explain each dish to my friend whose first experience with eating healthy was a little overwhelming. By the end of the evening he was convinced that food could taste delicious and be good for you. A few weeks later I got an email that this meal changed his life and he is actually trading in for a healthier eating lifestyle. I'm so happy as my friend has been suffering from diabetes for many years. Truly thankful to you all at Mas!"

  • "This happy NYC diner was blown away with the food and service at Mas (la grillade) which were among the finest I have had in New York. I love Mas (farmhouse) and think that Mas (la grillade) is equally as special if not better. It is the perfect date spot and I can't wait to come back."

  • "We were overwhelmed with the quality of everything. Mushroom soup with a creme fresh foam was dream like, the best pan seared cod we have had in years and the duck and chicken on the $78 four course tasting menu were moist, flavorful and cooked to perfection. The desserts were good but compared to an outstanding dinner the desserts were just OK. I would recommend this restaurant when it is over 20 degrees outside, they had difficulty keeping the dining room warm with an outsider temp of 12. Try Mas Grillade, you will thank us after dinner"
