Diner Reviews
  • "Specialty cocktails a must. Food and service was outstanding. Our second experience and was as good as first. Overall an outstanding experience. "

  • "The menu was very different and had many items I have not seen in other restaurants. Very innovative and everyone's food was well prepared. The staff is very helpful. I look forward to going back as the menu constantly changes."

  • "Incredible diverse menu -- the tasting menu never disappoints. This was my second time at Mas for a special occasion -- and it's the place to go. Innovative farm to table food, attentive service, beautiful presentation. With the Blue Ribbon Bakery next door, they make up the best side by side neighbors in the city. "

  • "It is our third time in MAS, and we like very much the food, is very innovative, I asked for the suclkling pig and was really amazing, I have tasted it in many top restaurants and it has been one of the best, definetely we' ll be back!"

  • "I think I had higher expectations for Mas. The food was good and the service was excellent. But at the same time, we were so close to the tables next to us, that it was distracting. We did the tasting menu, and, for the price, I was a little disappointed. We have had better."

  • "Food was terrific. Each course had multiple flavored that were very distinctive. The service was impeccable. We had a party of 8 and 4 servers delivered l our meals at one time."

  • "I loved the celery root soup. It was light and airy. I cannot wait to try this again. I gave for me a large tip as I was so impressed by the service."

  • "My only cavil with the restaurant was the almost ridiculously small entree portion. My dish was delicious but looked foolish on the plate."

  • "This is one of the few very nice restaurants where the answer is always yes, we would be happy to make that substitution for you. A real charmer. Excellent food, great ambience."

  • "We went to Mas for a very special occasion. I knew it was an expensive outing and, therefore, was not surprised at the prices. The bartender made some delicious drinks prior to out seating. The hostess knew it was a special occasion and let me choose one of two available tables. They were very accommodating and were focused for excellence in customer service. The food was good, but didn't knock me off my feet. The tuna appetizer was a nice portion and very tasty, but had a bit too much balsamic for my taste. The octopus was great, albeit a bit small portioned. The duck was very tasty. The two desserts we ordered were excellent. The wine list was fairly extensive. However, it was hard to find a reasonably bottle under $100."

  • "We had a wonderful time at this gem of a restaurant. The food was fantastic. The service excellent. One of the prettiest restaurants ever. Can't wait to go back"

  • "Beautiful ambiance…rustic but elegant. Amazing service and wonderful staff. Entire wait staff was very nice and so very professional. They made us feel as though the Chef had each and every diner in mind while he was preparing. The food was wonderful and very delicious. I had the four-course tasting menu and I was very satisfied. A memorable meal!"

  • "We dined at the Mas Farmhouse on Friday evening choosing the six course chef's menu and am so glad we did. The waiter asked if there were anything we each particularly didn't like, then proceeded to deliver course after course of delicious plates - five of the six that I would rate as superb. I left the wine selection to the sommelier, he rightfully asked us both about our wine tastes, but then delivered the perfect wine at you'll never guess - a reasonable price. Surpassed expectation."

  • "I took business clients out and we all opted for the chef's tasting menu. The only way to go. A gastronomic delight. Each course a surprise and better than the last. One of my guests was observing Lent and asked to substitute the dessert course with the cheese course. No problem and no sticking you with a substitution charge. The specialty drinks a surprise and delight. Charming and attentive service. A must try."

  • "A la carte portions are ridiculously small. Had to go out and eat after. For those prices, quite embarassing."

  • "It was great. The food was wonderful, tho menu a bit complicated. The staff was great, which is not always true at such a hot new restaurant....Diners would need to be prepared for the fact that the tables are very close so the people next to you can affect your experience for better or worse. We were lucky that way until toward the end of our meal when two hideously loud women sat down next to us and acted like they were the only ones there. Of course, that can happen anywhere, and it is hard for a restaurant to do anything about it. But overall we loved Mas....."

  • "The whole experience was beautiful. I and my wife celebrated our anniversary and they made us feel special. I would highly recommend it to anyone who want to celebrate their special occasion."

  • "Special occasion---anniversary. Everything was just right. We chose the four course menu with wine pairings. There are two choices for each course so we ordered (between the two of us) to cover all eight options. So, great variety in the food and wine. Service was fantastic and the wine descriptions added to the experience."

  • "We had dinner after a day of wandering around the Village & SoHo. It is tucked away on a quiet street in a residential area. We were not disappointed, as everything was wonderful and the service exceptional."

  • "The room was quiet and soothing and the food was wonderful. But best of all was the warm, welcoming, friendly attitude of the staff. The young woman who seemed to orchestrate things was about as nice as could be. It was a wonderful experience."

  • "Go for the chefs tasting menue! Prepared and done in a perfect way."

  • "The food and service are excellent, but the restaurant is small and the tables are uncomfortably close together. If you do not enjoy hearing every word of your neighbors' conversations or them hearing every word of yours, then avoid eating dinner here."

  • "This place is cozy and the service is warm , professional and very polite. It started off real nice with a cute corner table. The happiness lasted for 15 minutes when a loud party of 7 or 8 people arrived and sat next to us. We had mocktails that had ginger juice infused into fruit juices. Five stars. We had 6 course Chef's tasting menu. Some of the itemswere very good. We had mainly seafood as we didn't want beef or pork. This was a Tuesday so Fridays may be better freshness wise. We thought the seabass was a bit fishy and not very fresh like at Felidia or Aureole. Desserts, not great. For $350.00 for two people (tips included) one could do better. The lady at the reception gets 5 stars."

  • "My husband & I went to dinner here this weekend. We took a chance & ordered the chef's menu. First three courses were fish, 2 of which tasted a lot like barbecue. Next course was sweethbreads. After 4 courses of similiar consistency, it was just too much. To the kitchen's credit, they knew we weren't wowed and offered to replace it. Next course was delicious - lamb with mushroom. Dessert was not memorable. Maybe a rookie mistake at a foodie destination ordering tasting menu, but did think the chef would mix it up more. Price point higher than at comparably rated restaurants. Dining room is loud, bathrooms tiny, and seating was too tight. Didn't help that we had a couple a foot away, arguing all evening. Wish I could report better..."

  • "Everything at this restaurant is truly amazing! The food is fantastic, the service is super-nice, and the restaurant itself is intimate and romantic (without being cramped). You can order a la carte here or you can have a 3, 4, or six course tasting menu. And, the entire table does NOT have to have the same thing (at most tasting course restaurants, the entire table has to do the tasting menu, or they discourage anyone from doing it). The answer to every quesiton at this restaurant seemed to be "Sure, no problem.""

  • "Our plans on February 19 were changed due to the postponement of the Justin Timberlake concert. The staff went way out of their way to seat us at about 8:30 and serve us in time to make it to a 10:30 show. Food and service were both fabulous!"

  • "Had a great meal here. Loved the 4 course tasting menu - they let you subsitute items from the main menu if you wish. Most dishes were very delicious though one or two were just interesting - not much favor. Service was excellent - some of the best that I have ever had! Also, liked the decor - modern but very warm."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "The overall rating is one below five only because the tasting menu, ordered by my husband, was not quite as interesting as the one we had a few nights earlier at Degustation. Actually, I thought it was all wonderful. Hubby is picky!"
    Dined on 2/9/2014
  • "definitely not up to it's hype or worth the price. 4 course tasting menu ran out of steam by the time the entrees arrived. All 4 (different) main courses were room temperature at best on on top of what seemed like dried reheated sides. Aside from that, the staff couldn't have been more accommodating and welcoming, the ingredients were seasonal and the atmosphere was lots of fun. It was nice, but I don't think you would go back for a food experience."

  • "The food was both excellent and each dish was original. We really appreciated that they made the menu very flexible both in terms of being able to put a lal carte dishes into the tasting menu and vice-versa. The service was very friendly and helpful in describing the dishes and making sure we could get what we want. They were sensitive to special food needs. my one tiny qualm is they could have one or two more vegetarian options but that did not detract at all. The desserts were also excellent. Finally the room was beautiful but not stuffy or overly fancy and somehow the restaurant was energetic and buzzing at just the right level where you could tell everyone was having fun but you could hear yourselves talk."

  • "My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary dinner, and had a delicious meal and wonderful service. I had noted when making the reservation that since it was our anniversary, I would like a corner booth in the back if possible, which they arranged. They also took the time to write "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate sauce around the edge of our dessert plates. As other commenters have noted, the service was not rushed at all -- we felt no pressure to hurry through the meal, and the servers were subtly gracious about not interrupting our conversation. We ordered the $78 prix fixe -- and each dish was both delicious and interesting. (Cross-posted at Yelp.)"

  • "Service = acceptable Server knowledge of menu = modest (at best) ; never suggested wine pairing Server knowledge of wine list = none Food quality = acceptable, portions have increased while overall quality has decreased (unfortunately) Food (taste) = bland (in some cases, tasteless) A favorite place to eat for special occasions has declined (sadly)"
