Finally on Thursday nights is our "Service Industry Night", where we will have special discounts to celebrate our fellow service industry locals in Taos.

  • "We were in town for our anniversary and wanted to have a nice, upscale dinner at a steakhouse. We made our reservations (with the request for a nice table if possible for the anniversary) and when we arrived at the restaurant, we waited for about 10 minutes for our table (which was a high-top table in the bar RIGHT next to another table with a family of 3). Our drink order was taken (upon which we also asked for water & our candle to at least be lit on our table). After about 10 minutes, we finally received our tap water...no ice...but still no drinks (which was just wine & a gin/tonic). Still no candle lit either. After 25 minutes with still no drinks, we decided to walk out of the restaurant. Definitely do NOT recommend Martyrs!"

  • "Had a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner at Martyrs with my wife. We have eaten here many times for both lunch and dinner since it opened, but this three-course special dinner, paired with wines, was the best meal we have had there. A surf and turf entree, with huge grilled shrimp, a grilled lobster tail and strip steak (perfectly done, Pittsburgh rare) was outstanding. Butternut squash and green chili soup was a spicy starter. The two deserts we shared (Jack Daniels-drenched bread pudding and chocolate-raspberry mousse) were the perfect ending to the meal. Martyrs has evolved upward since the current chef, Gabriel Farkash, took over the kitchen. Bravo! Definitely a place to go when you are in or near Taos."

  • "This restaurant was a very pleasant surprise and exceeded my expectations. It was a great dining experience, big drinks, very good service and a menu with food a person can recognize. Excellent choice for people like me that enjoy meat. I don't know about the rest of the menu but if it is as enjoyable as the red meat selections should be OK for all. Seems like you could take anyone there, business or social. A really nice addition to Taos dining options, really nice."

The place is small so you should definitely reserve a table, do not expect to walk in and get seated. The food, ambience, service, and overall experience is top-notch. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Impeccable!!"

  • "Martyrs is a new place that has already changed chefs several times. We had good appetizers--Lobster Mac&Cheese is an exciting new (and expensive) comfort food idea, and the crab/avocado one was good as well. Of the steaks, the Tournedos was excellent, the Porterhouse a bit tough. The waiter was a bit rusty and forgot to bring my posole (I forgot to check if he charged me for it!) We had an excellent (if expensive) Amarone wine. Bill for 6 (excl. wine, tip, and tax) was about $280. Atmosphere was good with three choices of setting (tables--a bit exposed to the cold outside), the high-chair tables inside room, and at the bar."

  • "Waited over an hour for our table which we had a reservation for-first we waited at the front and then hostess took us to the bar. My husband and I ordered drinks and the wait began. We waited over an hour-it was Christmas and I understand people want to be with their family. But don't take so many reservations!!! For a 6:45 reservation we were seated at 7:50 and it took the server another 10 minutes to acknowledge us. They were out of bread, meat was overcooked, regular bread showed up at the end of our meal. Food average at best. Server didn't seem to notice or care about our frustration. This turned into a three hour frustrating experience. All in all a very average meal for over $300 for four people. Not impressed."

  • "Our family group found the steaks and salmon from Martyr's kitchen tasty, as were the sauces for steaks. The crab/avocado and steak tartar appetizers were wonderful. On the other hand, none of the food was inventive and my medium rare steak was overcooked. The baked potatoes were undercooked and the mashed potatoes not only tasteless, but obviously placed on the plate and kept in a warmer for a LONG time. But by far the most frustrating part of our evening was the poor wait service. Our waiter seemed totally untrained to the point that my generally laid-back husband was furious. Although some elements of our meal were excellent, the poor service and general lack of creativity in a relatively expensive restaurant is a no-go for me."

  • "I could tell right away the waiter didn't have time for me.i wanted to ask a question about a special.. He rushed off. Then another waitress brought my entree within minutes. But I ordered a salad prior to the meal. Made me wonder if the entree was just sitting there. I pointed out it never arrived. The waiter explained there was a lot of confusion in the kitchen. It was a Tuesday night and only moderately busy. Luckily, the owner/manager came over and apologized."

What a gem! The menu was small but impressive with everything super fresh and "respectfully" prepared. To some folks, the dining area might seem a bit tight, but it was the perfect cozy spot on cold Fall evening!"

We question the need for high ala carte pricing. Out-or-towners, not knowing any better and having money, probably find this the norm, but those from Taos may find this place pricey. All in all, we were not disappointed and will consider returning on subsequent visits to Taos."

  • "This was our first visit to Martyr's and it won't be our last! Outstanding food and service for this little town. We had the shrimp cocktail and crab stuffed avocado for apps. Crab needed a little more seasoning for my taste, but shrimp were large and delicious. We each had the wedge salad--excellent dressing with tinge of vinegar! We shared the special of the night, a 14 oz (quality!) prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes and fall veggies. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. For dessert we had the Bourbon Caramel Creme Brule and Flourless Chocolate Cake. Both were excellent. We were told that it is pricey for Taos, but disagree. We have spent as much or more at other places. We will definitely dine here again!"

Restaurant was especially helpful in splitting up our checks (we had 10 people there) as I know this isn't normal policy at most."

  • "Terrific place! The food was incredible and our server had a dry sense of humor, which we love. Beautiful renovation on the building. Comparable in price to the local favorite Lambert's. Just as good or better food and dining experience. The only issue was a table of ten -- two sisters and husbands and grandparents and four kids-- two toddlers in highchairs and two little girls about four or so. They were noisy and rude. One of the toddlers hit a lady walking by in the leg with a fork and no adult at the table seemed concerned about it. Utter devastation when they left -- chocolate cake all over the floor, truly a mess. What is wrong with people that they take four kids under five out at 7:00 on Friday night and leave chaos behind?!"
