  • "Interesting menu, good food, and pleasant staff. We have returned many times. Roast duck, rare, is my favorite."

  • "We had a reservation for 6 which turned into 10 and the additional guests arrived about 45 min after us. The food was seasoned to bring out a balanced flavor. The menu offered many choices. We would return again should we have another conference in Salt Lake City."

  • "I choose a series of tapas rather than an entree and was very satisfied. My waiter was excellent, offering informed opinions and good suggestions whenever I asked for them. I felt that some of the dishes could have been prepared with a little more boldness. For example, the "Pan Seared Brussels Sprouts" weren't really seared, and the "Grilled Gingerbread" dessert didn't really seem grilled (I'd imagined a big slab of fresh gingerbread with with the aroma of the grill and char marks across it - what I got was more tame than that)."

  • "A place to have a pleasant conversation with entertaining food. The service was provided by a lovely intelligent woman."

  • "I've eaten here twice in the last two weeks and both visits were disappointing. Most of the problems are due to bad service. There is little room to leave a detailed experience, so the management/owner is welcome to contact me since I typed it all out and my message was too long. Long story short, this place is far too expensive to not serve perfect food with perfect service. Period. Try a different restaurant would be my recommendation until this place steps up it's service and product. And it's apparent they've lost it a bit because the place has been dead both Saturdays I have visited."

  • "My experience at Martine has always been outstanding!"

  • "Martine has continually delivered on a high quality and imaginitive menu, coupled with very good service and at a fair price. The atmoshpere in the converted turn of the century bank building is quite comfortable -- nearly replicating the feel of dining in an old NY brownstone. I regularly entertain both business and personal guests at Martine. The upstairs dining area provides a terrific private group setting."

  • "It is rare to give a dining experience such high marks because something could always be better but our dinner for two at Martine was a perfect evening. Our server, Alan, could not have been more on top of his game. We brought in a wine from our cellar that required great care in opening and serving and he handled it perfectly. He knew the menu and his recommendations were in-line with our wine and our tastes. We booked through Open Table and requested a window and they accommodated our request. From appetizer to tapa to entrée the food was excellent and the service was attentive and timely. We had the Duck and the Steak and each was prepared to our specifications. We will surely return in the near future."

  • "I brought some very 'food savvy' friends in from out of town. They were so impressed with the quality and variety of the menu. They were even more impressed with the wine list. Martine Cafe is always a'go to' when wanting to impress. The food is remarkable and the service is very efficient and the staff knowledgeable. I will be back when I need to entertain my VIP's from out of town."

  • "I really enjoy Martine. I've been a couple of times now. It is great for a special occasion, celebrating a promotion or a birthday. They also offer a fix menu that is a fantastic value, with a starter course, entree, and dessert and you won't feel guilty for going to such a nice place on a whim. Everything I've tried here has been fantastic."

  • "Went to the cafe for dinner with a few colleagues and enjoyed the entire experience immensely: - free valet service was most welcome on a cold rainy night - lovely tapas - especially the sauces for their mussels and scallops were good enough to lick off the plate - wines recommended by our wonderful waiter - Alan - we're delicious - and the mains were tasty and beautiful - especially the beef (from massaged pampered cows and the seafood, I was not thrilled with the duck but to be fair it was not one of Alan's recommendations) All around - a lovely dinner experience and a beautiful spot."

  • "The food was good and the selection of fresh seafood outstanding, BUT the service was condescending and even rude at the beginning."

  • "We had a group of 10 business associates for dinner. the food was excellent, the service was spot on for a group. Very enjoyable evening. Will definitely return for a non-business evening!"

  • "The roasted pear with duck confit and blue cheese was a perfect appetizer. The lamb cassoulet warmed us on a cold evening. Olives to the table were a nice touch. The service was lackluster. Our server really could not describe the dishes and just made up the ingredients as he went. This was quite disappointing and so unnecessary for a simple menu. He never mentioned the specials at all so we were unaware of them until we were leaving the restaurant. Perhaps a handout would help this issue. We would still recommend Martine and hope you get a better server."

  • "The low key atmosphere is conducive to dining with others and being able to converse. The food is good, though sometime the combinations do not appeal to me. Very convenient to downtown events--abravanel and Capital theatre."

  • "We enjoyed the variety of the menu and the prix fixe options were very good. The scallops were 'meh". Those were my date's entree choice. And it was a little dark... my chief complaint for many restaurants... I want to see my food and there is NOTHING wrong with my eyesight. and my date likes to see me. And his vision is fine too... we use flashlights on phones. Classy, huh?"

  • "Had another great meal at Martine. Great tapas and entre special. Best fine dining in Salt Lake City."

  • "We were one of the first couples to arrive at the facility. We were seated at the back of the resteraunt with no view. Very grumpy and disorganized waiter . It took forever to take our order . Drinks arrived after food. Then we had what felt like a switch to a female waitress...all very bizarre and confusing. The food was good but presentation leaves something to improve upon. Overall very dissappointed with the experience in such a visually beautiful setting."

  • "After an initial hiccup with a seating request (which was handled with a great degree of professionalism) the evening was a complete success - the set menu was perfect for Valentine's Day, with selections to satisfy both of us - attentive service enhanced the experience such that an otherwise frantic holiday night highly enjoyable"

  • "The food was exceptional, as always. The service was slow, due, no doubt, to heavy patronage, but our server offered the epitome of fine service: he was cordial, courteous, and friendly, but in no way attempted to interject himself into our conversation. The evening was long, but we weren't in a hurry. We'll be back, for sure."

  • "My friend and I have dined at Martine's many times over the last five years. Even though we arrived on time for a 6:30 reservation, it took ten minutes to get a suitable table. The food presentation was very good but the duck appeared more fatty than usual and was cooked rare instead of medium rare. The rock crab appetizer was bland. There are many other good dining options at this price point."

  • "I took my wife for a Valentine's treat. We have been to Martine's 3-4 other occasions and have never been disappointed. The food was exquisite, the service from Alan, our server, was knowledgable and attentive but not overbearing. All in all the salad, tapas, and entres were delicious. I highly recommend this little gem in our city."

  • "If you enjoy a flavorful variety of good, interesting food at a reasonable price go to Martine and select a combination of their tapas and small plates. We had a combination that included the house smoked Corvina, quail, wild boar meatballs, lamb shank cassoulet, and duck breast with a pomegranate reduction. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. In addition, the atmosphere was cozy . Highly recommended."

  • "My husband and I dined here for the first time on Saturday night. We had requested a quiet table in advance and were pleased when we were seated on the balcony overlooking the first floor -- it was essentially our own private balcony. Our waiter was very good and very helpful. We ordered a variety of Tapas which we really enjoyed -- each plate combined great flavors and were very tasty. We ordered wine by the glass which, too, exceeded our expectations. We will definitely return."

  • "Overall it was a nice night out and dinner. It was quiet so my wife and I could carry on a good conversation. The food, atmosphere, quality, and price are all fine. It did seem however they are trying to hard to be pretentious."

  • "Martine is a lovely place for a special occasion and especially for couples. It's quiet and charming. The food was superb and unique. We had the scallops in smoked tomato coulis, a composed salad with potato straws and bleu cheese with the seafood stew as our entre. Service was a little bit slow but friendly."

  • "The restaurant has a warm cozy feel, with interesting woodwork on the walls. The staff is welcoming and informative. The menu was interesting, and it is possible to eat a full meal, or make a lighter meal out of tapas. The wine list is interesting. The food was very creative and well prepared, and I found it to be delicious. This is my favorite restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City, and I look forward to eating here every time I come to Salt Lake."

  • "I drove past it about 3 times before my girlfriend saw the blue M in the window, but other than that everything about this place was wonderful. The cocktails were outstanding, no one ingredient in them was overpowering and they are easy to pair with the food even if you don't put much thought into it. The food itself is incredibly well prepared, properly portioned for a dinner for two with one appetizer and 2 to 3 drinks each, and is even more skillfully melded than the cocktails in terms of flavor combination and contrast. I would highly recommend Martine Cafe to anybody looking for a really incredible meal."

  • "It was nice meeting and talking with Alpar Molnar the wine maker, and tasting wines that we had not tried before. The small plates were too gourmet and didn't offer enough food to really enjoy the wine. Having duck and wild boar was a little too much."

  • "My seafood stew entree was quite tasty, but portion size was rather light. My husband had Moroccan beef, and he liked that quite well, and was given a considerable portion. The evening would have been much nicer had we not been seated next to a very loud table of 4. At the point we were seated, it was early and , the restaurant was empty, so this wasn't necessary."

  • "Martine has been a fav of mine for a number of years. I have not been there for a year and was concerned about food quality staying high. Well to my surprise the food had improved! Everything was spot on, from wine service to coffee, everyone did a superlative job on a New years eve ! My partner and I started with an incredible soup and moved to 4 different tapas including, sandines (must try) to lamb meat balls and then gnocchi. Bon Appetite"
