Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed a bottle of wine with the escargot, French onion soup and veal. The veal was a bit tough, but everything else was wonderful."

  • "Thank you again for your wonderful service and yummy entrees. My friends from out-of-town thought dinner was a real treat, and I love bringing new people to Marseille. I wish your desserts were better -- aside from the warm chocolate cake, every dessert I've tried is not nearly as special as the rest of your menu."

  • "Great service, creative, well executed menu. Good pre-theater menu. Enjoyed the place very much."

  • "We've eaten here several times, usually combined with a Broadway show. We've always had a fine meal and like it a lot. This weekend we went with our foodie friends and they liked it too. I recommend reservations because there have been times that we couldn't get a table. i also like some of their related restaurants like Cafe D’alsace on the upper east side. Check it out and you won't be sorry."

  • "Tasty, interesting menu with many excellent choices. Esgargots was outstanding, especially toasted, crunchy breadcrumbs and garlic. Chef prepares steak just right and sauces (peppercorn and bearnaise) were fantastic. Dessert choices always great. Our favorite spot in the theatre district!"

  • "We've had several brunches here. Think of it as an affordable mid-town lite version of Balthazar, without the fruits de mer or the boulangerie next door."

  • "We've dined at Marseille many times but this was our first brunch. There are many choices, not just the usual omelets and French Toast. My portabella tartine was delicious. We were short on time for a 3:00 matinee. The wait staff was very helpful getting us to the theater on time."

  • "I was very disappointed in the food. It came out about 5 minutes after ordering and tasted pre made and heated up / The Morrocan omelet was dry and the potatoes were not freshly made. The waffle did not taste freshly made as it was not crisp but a little soggy and, again, tasted like it was warmed up. The ice coffee was delicious and the waiter was very attentive. I felt that they were just trying to get everyone out in time for the theater."

  • "We chose this restaurant because of the unique food menu...but the food really left something to be desired. They had an expansive wine list, but it was expensive. The food was expensive as well, and portion sizes were TINY. My fiance ordered a tuna steak. It was good, but it came on a bed of greens that literally looked as though they threw everything they had leftover in the kitchen on it. I wouldn't eat here again. For the price we paid for the meal, I was expecting a LOT more."

  • "If you go there, you must try the tuna steak. You can't find a better restaurant for that price"

  • "Great vibe. Reminds me of being in a bustling restaurant in Paris. The food is excellent. I had the ginger crusted snapper and it was delicious. The service is great except we ordered some sides and they never came. We realized they never brought them out during the middle of our meal so we never bothered telling the waiter. They should really write orders down when they take them. I don't understand why more and more waiters just try and remember everything. That was the only negative. The bar is also great. They have awesome bartenders."

  • "With seven tables still having customers there the staff started to stack chairs on the tables and clean the floors before 11pm. Our bill was delivered to us before we had even finished our after dinner drinks and we were never asked if we wanted another round."

  • "My family returned to this lovely restaurant again for a pre-theatre dinner after having a very good experience last year. It did not disappoint us. Each entree: trout, hanger steak, Tuscan chicken and pasta pesto was excellent. The price fixe option is very good with great choices. The server was knowledgeable about wine choices. Dont miss the creme brulee!"

  • "My wife and I were looking for a special dinning experience and we found it at Marseille . Adding the flowers at the table was a special surprise for my wife and a perfect way to begin a special evening. The whole staff was extremely kind and pleasant, helping our night to be a perfect dinning experience ."

  • "Went for Brunch. Two of us in my party ordered the Benedict. By the time we got our food, our eggs were ice cold....had to send it back, unedible, but always makes me nervous to that, for possible retaliation from kitchen staff (I've worked in restaurants..just sayin) also meant several in our party had their food and we did not. We had to ask 3 times for a refill on coffee...by the time we finally got one, what was the point? Made us sad, it really is the first time we noticed the waiters and staff seemed preoccuppied and/or hung over."

  • "I dined the prix fix menu here, and the quality of the food was very good overall. Service was very good, though not very rapid. The wines are overpriced. Great spot for grabbing a quality bite before theater shows. Pricing was $38 for appetizer, entree, and dessert - quite a decent deal."

  • "For many years I have passed this restauant saying I would like to try. Finally I remembered to make a reservation when I was in the city and it was wonderful. They had classic dishes cooked with creativity. Service was excellent- you were able to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. The other diners were a mixed of New Yorker's."

  • "This is one of mine & my husbands favorite restaurants the first time we discovered it we went back 5 out of 6 nights in town! My husband is a classicly trained Chef who studied in France and appreciates the intelligent food that Marseille consistently produces!"

  • "Recently made a reservation for dinner after a show. What a mistake! The food was fine and the service was good. However at 10:40 PM all hell broke loose as tables and chairs were brought in from outside and the entire restaurant was out of control.Chairs up on tables. Tables pushed to encirle our table and the 3 other tables still having dinner. The noise and scene were unbearable to even have a conversation.RUDE RUDE RUDE!!! That was just 40 minutes after our arrival and reservation. This is not a fast food joint and the prices are not cheap. So we do have higher expectations in this great city we live. There are alot of other options out there..."

  • "We've probably walked past this place a million times and never gave it a thought, but when searching for a non-touristy place for pre-theater brunch, Marseille came up in an online article so we gave it a try. Taking reservations was a huge plus for us - good to know we won't be waiting an hour when time is precious. We just loved everything about it. The restaurant is far more spacious than average for NYC - people are not on top of each other. The menu had something for everyone, and all the food was delicious. The service was great. We will definitely make this a 'keeper' on our list and maybe try it for dinner as well."

  • "We had dinner Saturday night at Marsellie and the experience was wonderful. Everyone agreed their food was delicious. Service was great and very friendly. The waiter didn't care that we didn't order apps or dessert or that we were in a rush. Would definitely return next time were in NYC ."

  • "The food was very good and the whiskey sour we had before dinner was delish! We had 6:15 reservations and were out in plenty of time to make it to our 8 o'clock show at Radio City. Our waiter was excellent and gave us efficient service without making us feel rushed. Will definately recommend this place to friends coming into the city for a show and will definately be back ourselves."

  • "Marseille is consistently wonderful. The restaurant is reminiscent of a Paris bistro. The food is terrific and is always beautifully presented. The service is impeccable and the ambience - French! What can I say? Marseille is my very favorite restaurant in the theater district and beyond."

  • "Our server made a point of asking if we had tickets to a show and what time curtain was to ensure out meals came out in time. The steak frites was perfect and my husband really enjoyed his lamb."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "First time there: we had lunch. I had the omelet - a wee bit dry. My friend had the lamb with couscous and said it was delicious. We both liked the place and will return I'm sure. More of a selection would be nice. Our server was perfect in every way: just the right amount of attention."

  • "Great restaurant! Loved the atmosphere and the food. Will come back on my next visit and recommend to family and friends. Waiter asked us if we were going to a Broadway Show from the getgo and got us taken care of on time."

  • "Our first but definitely our last visit....The food was very good, the server delightful and the feel very French café! Would have been nice to have a cheaper choice of wine, either by the glass or bottle, but the one we had was very good. We will not only return but bring friends next time."

  • "There are times when you first go to a new restaurant and think - isn't this great. That was our experience at Marseille. The food and service were okay the second visit - we had the pre theater price fixe. The $16 glass of wine seemed to be a bit much but is was NYC! Overall okay but not in a rush to go back."

  • "The staff is amazing. The hostesses, Management and waitstaff are extremely attentive. With my res, they seated me where I requested and called to inform me that the president was in town incase I wanted to plan to come in early. It worked out great. I frequent Marseilles as my go to in the theater district. For dinner we had the Tuscan chicken, trout and the burger. For lunch the Mediterranean and shrimp salads. Both fresh with fabulous dressings. A wonderful place to dine."

  • "As always, Marseille was great for pre-theater dinner. We arrived at 6:15 and had ample time to eat without feeling rushed. The service was professional and the food way better than average for the neighborhood. The onion soup is terrific, hamburgers tasty and the fries are great. pasta dishes are all prepared perfectly. We even had time for desseert. Yay! If only Matilda was a good as dinner..."

  • "This is my first time eating here here in a number of years. I do not live in the city but visit for the theatre. It is perfect for pre-theater since it is close to the district but far enough away to avoid the circus of Time Square, etc. The service is friendly and efficient, the decor is charming, the food is reliable, prepared well and always good -- though I remembered it being a bit more interesting a few years ago. It is also a good value for this part of the city."
