Some food is good (the short rib bourguignon) but the bouillabaisse, abundant, with fish was strange tasting after a bite or two. I have never liked the rounded booths despite the joy of distance between tables. In short, food, service, place are okay but not first rate. It is not seriously food oriented.

Four us dined before the theater. My beef burgundy was nothing particular. two pieces of short rib beef off the bone with a mall amount of mashed potatoes and a cubed vegetable. Previous visits had me eating mussels and they were preferable to the meal I had on 10-15.

Felt like a trip to France. I would take any health conscious diners here, as the food is all wholesome, veggie-centric, and absolutely delicious! Any place that serves grilled octopus is on my restaurant map. Very fresh meats and seafood. I highly recommend Le Pomplemousse cocktail for grapefruit goodness; could've easily drank three.

Lovely decor, fun architecture, comfortable tables. Service was fast and efficient without being overly personal (just the way we like it). Octopus app. was outstanding and we enjoyed a wonderfully fresh salad. Hangar Steak Au Poivre was MR instead of M but that was not the end of the world because it still tasted delicious. My wife had the Monkfish and gave it a 3.5 out of 5. Overall, a wonderful end to our busy day of shopping and enjoying the sites. One wish is for more wine options under $100. Lots of great wine to choose from between $100-$2900, which is nice for a four or five star place, but my $25 Hangar steak entree didn't warrant that kind of investment. The $75 Pinot Noir that I ordered was unfortunately mediocre at best.

On a recent visit to NYC, my wife and I wanted to try another leg on the Tour de France. Marseille was an excellent choice. There was a reasonable wine-by-the-glass selection. We started with the shrimp beignet. The 6 beignets were done perfectly with excellent flavor. The Fall salad was kale based with a nice balance of crunch from the almonds, and sweetened by dried cherries. My wife had the chicken under the brick. Superbly prepared, so tender. I had the bouillabaisse. It was rich and flavorful with shrimp, fish, and mussels. We finished the meal with the pumpkin cheesecake. It was excellent.

Enjoyed lunch at this French bistro in the Theater District. Menu has light lunches (salads, omelets, etc) as well as traditional French fare of mussels, bouillabaisse, and even hamburgers. Enjoyed the ham and gruyere omelet which came with great French fries and salad. The shrimp beignets were delicious. They also have a nice prix fixe menu. One of our favorites in the Theater District.

Had a wonderful time at Marseille. Not only was the food exceptional and the service terrific but they were kind enough to hold our reservation as we were stuck in traffic. Their policy is that as long as you call and let them know you are late they will hold the table...not an easy find in Manhattan! It was a wonderful dinner!

Always very nice food, fast service and fun energetic room for a pre-theatre date. On our most recent visit the tuna in the salad nicoise was deliciously rare and the salad itself ample. The monkfish entrée on the other hand, while tasty enough, was minuscule in comparison and more suitable as an appetizer. Our pleasant waiter was handling tables both inside and on the sidewalk, so perhaps that is why he forgot the second round of drinks we ordered. Nevertheless, we had a nice meal and a good time, and made it to the theater in plenty of time.

My group of 4 ate here for lunch before show on a Wednesday, chosen primarily for location (close to theatre) and appealing photos of food and restaurant . We were not disappointed. Everyone raved about the food, chicken, salmon , and my vegetable dish were fabulous, along with soup(vegetable-awesome!)and salad. The acai cosmos were a treat!! The waiter was charming and timely, never felt rushed however we received our courses with plenty of time for the show. We will definitely be coming back.

Once again, everyone in our party was delighted with everything about Marseille. We arrived a little early, and instead of having us wait at the bar, the maître d' asked us which table we'd prefer. That was a first! Three of us ordered the French Onion soup, which is the only one of its kind that I'll eat; its broth is rich in flavor and not salty (as many lower quality versions tend to be), and the onions are sweet. One person ordered the Fall Salad, but after tasting it, found it was not to their liking. No problem! The server took it back and replaced it with a crock of the French Onion Soup. For the entrees, which were also perfectly prepared, included salmon, hanger steak and lamb chops - all delicious. We will return again!!!

I have been to Marseille on several occasions and it is an excellent place for lunch with a group: large tables and able to hear each other. The food was very good and the service timely. One one complaint is an "over attentiveness"....Several times a server attempting to take our plates away when we weren't finished eating. The restaurant was quite empty to it wasn't a question of needing the space. The servers need to observe people and see that they are still eating, or they are deep in conversation and it not time to come over and interrupt.

The calamari appetizer was fine, although mostly breading (but tasty, and hot). My wife had the sort rib "bourguignon" which was a disappointment; one rib standing in a puddle of pureed cauliflower with somewhere, a hint of the bourguignon. She wasn't happy, but blamed it on herself for not ordering the duck. I had the Tuscan chicken, which was lovely; tender, semi-boneless and flavorful. The menu isn't extensive, but there are some other dishes that, for us, are worth trying.

While the food at Marseilles was tasty when we finally got it, the service was truly lacking the night we dined there. We arrived promptly at 5:30 as we had a 7:00 curtain which we told our server as we sat down. We ordered right away; however, we had to wait over 30 minutes for our entrees, even after our server told us that "they should be out shortly." But they weren't, so we flagged down the maître d' who stormed into the kitchen. It was still another 10 minutes before we finally received them. Inhaling dinner before running to the theater was not what we had in mind. Other than an apology, we were not offered anything to compensate our long wait.

As a visitor to N.Y., I always want to go to Marseille, for the drinks, atmosphere and bistro-type food. Inventive and delicious. However, though the atmosphere was cosy and romantic, the subdued lighting was too subdued, and the four of us had a difficult time reading the menu. O.K., we should have had our cell phones with us to serve as flashlights, but we didn't. The server said nothing could be done. The wine list provided few red wine choices at a reasonable price, but we were lucky to like one we found at $49.00. I say WE found, because when we asked for help in choosing, the waiter said he would get the sommelier, who never appeared. Food was great, as usual.
