Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed the dining experience - soup was great, lots of vegeterian choices and an overall authentic experience. The portions are pretty large so 2 people might want to share."

  • "The dancing was great to watch, the staff were extremely friendly, and the energy in the room was awesome, People were dancing between the tables. And I haven't even mentioned how good the food tasted!"

  • "This restaurant is fabulous! Seriously, the moment you enter, you feel like you are stepping into Morocco. The decor inside is absolutely gorgeous and the ambience is lovely. Also, the owner is very friendly and the service is excellent. I can't say enough about this place! The portions are very generous! I ordered chicken couscous and it was delicious. If you want to experience traditional Moroccan dining, you should try this restaurant. You will be very pleased!"

  • "Marrakech is a hidden gem. Great food, ambience and service. Wine list is superb as well. Can't wait for warmer weather to enjoy outside seating."

  • "This is my third time to Marrakech with a group of coworkers and food is always flavorful and service keeps getting better. The host is very welcoming and makes you feel at home and makes sure you are having the fullest Moroccan experience. Although nothing like the other Marrakesh on NY ave, this is nothing to turn down or compare. It has it's own flavor and flare and beautiful belly dancers will entertain you during dinner. My guests and I were not disappointed with the changes."

  • "I came here on a busy Saturday night around 730. The restaurant was packed, yet we were still given great service. Although a bit slow, it was well worth it all. The food was fresh and hot, the chicken and lamb couscous was delicious and presented on a authentic Moroccan plate. Luckily, we were able to catch two beautiful belly dancers one at 8 and another at 9. I will definitely come back for an entertaining, great dinner."

  • "No reservations were available for 7:00 pm, so we took the 6:00 pm reservation. The restuarant was empty and when we asked, we were told that the restaurant wanted to ensure that we did not overstay. We left at 8:30 and 1/2 the restaurant was till empty. The waiter rushed us for each course, which we were happy to do -- we only stayed as long as we did to see the belly dancer perform -- who did not arrive to 8:15. We went there for an experience similar to Marrekesh on NY Ave which recently closed, but were extremely disappointed."

  • "A colleague and I were in DC and staying close to Marrakech, the staff at my hotel highly recommended it, so we gave it a try. Staff were very accommodating and made our meal a real adventure. The food was great and well proportioned. They even threw in a dessert on the house! Just a great experience..."

  • "We used to go to Marrakech when it was on NEw York Ave all the time and the food was amazing. Had not been there in awhile since we have kids and was excited to go back. They moved locations. Was worries when I saw they changed their menu a little. The food was definitely not of the same caliber. Some items did tase the same but the chicken, lamb and Bastille which were all to die for before where just mediocre now. The chicken was even dry. Match that with horrible service and we were very disappointed. Luckily we were with good friends so had a great night. Will probably not be going back."

  • "Step in to the back room and be transported to Morocco. Very tasty food. Belly dancers to entertain. And a charming host to keep you happy."

  • "Went here to celebrate a friend's birthday. Overall, we all liked the restaurant. The food was pretty good and we enjoyed the ambiance. The major complaint was the service, or lack thereof. Our waiter(s) didn't check in on us regularly for drink refills or to see if we needed anything. Despite that, I might return again if I'm in the mood for Moroccan food."

  • "While Moroccan dining can be expected to take longer than regular cuisines, the service at Marrakesh was incredibly slow and irritating. Despite having a reservation, it took nearly 20 minutes to get us seated and another 20 minutes just to get menus. The drinks came about 30 minutes after we were seated and after us having to ask for them three times. The final straw was when it took nearly 20 minutes just to get our check at the end of the meal. The belly dancer was OK - she performed for about 10 minutes and did nothing particularly noteworthy. On the plus side, the main course was excellent and the decor of the restaurant was fantastic!"

  • "Outstanding service and nice ambience. We went for Valentine's Day. The only thing we would recommend is to have the option to have dinner a la carte or a nicer dinner for $50 on Valentine's Day."

  • "Had a fun time, although, the food was disappointing for how exciting the atmosphere was; belly dancers on Saturday night."

  • "I used to live in Morocco and wanted to introduce a friend to the food. We chose this lovely little neighborhood spot and weren't disappointed. Mohammed was adorable and attentive. The owner came through to check on us and we spoke French all night. The lamb tagine, the chicken Bastilla and, surprisingly, the Malbec bottle were all really good. Will definitely go back."

  • "We made reservations for 7:30 and as of 8 pm had still not been seated. many other people were waiting at the entry with no host appearing for about 10 minutes. Things seemed very disorganized and the restaurant overwhelmed. We left without being seated and let the host/owner know and he just said "okay" no apology and appeared indifferent to the fact that people were leaving."

  • "I was very disappointed with the food that they are very blend and they used the same sauce for everything"

  • "I went to the Marrakech for my Birthday, I had high expectations for an awesome dining experience. The website boasted a "Dining Experience" It was far from that, I was very dissatisfied in the level of customer service and the fact that the room we were in was very crowded. It was very loud and service took forever. The wait staff was rude, the manager was taking orders from customers and the service was very slow. Busy or not, waiting an hour for our drink orders to be taken was unacceptable. We almost left to to another place to eat. I would not recommend this as a place to go unless you have low expectations for service."

  • "The highlight of our night was our server, Khaled (sp?). He recommended and explained dishes through each course of dinner. The food was wonderful because we knew just what to order with Khaled's help. The only complaint we walked away with was that the restaurant was very cold. There were not many people in the evening we were there, so the temperature kept dropping as it got colder outside."

  • "We dined at Marrakech for my husband's 40th birthday and had a terrific time. Our party of 12 enjoyed a leisurely meal, flowing with wine, delicious food & laughter. The service was attentive and friendly. We enjoyed speaking in French with our servers throughout the evening. The belly dancer was a fun bit of additional entertainment. My hubby even danced with her briefly, which yielded some comical pictures. My only complaint is that the music was too loud for my liking, especially during the dancing. There were times when we couldn't even hear our waiter because the music was so loud. Overall, it was a great night. We will return again for sure!"

  • "I had such a good time at the restaurant last Saturday it was lively and fun. The food is presented on a authentic Moroccan plate with a authentic presentation with so many flavors and spices. The chicken tagine was one of many of my favorite dishes. The waiters are friendly, but service can be a bit slow. Be sure to make time when dining in, as Moroccan hospitality should not be rushed. To add, a belly dancer performs during your dinner making you feel you're certainly in Marrakech. If you have been to the original Marrakesh, as I have, my advice to you is TRY IT without being a critic, it is a different restaurant, but you can't go wrong!"

  • "There was an 'original' restaurant was amazing, wonderful and I couldn't say enough good about it..... this "NEW PLACE" was aweful! They didn't have my reservation.... when I told them I had one it was in the "front room" - and btw, the front room is like hanging at the coat check! The food was not tasting or well prepared as it had been at the "original one" and it was not worth the money at all! Just a bad experience!!!!and the wires in the mens room were not just a fire hazard or off code but a complete danger that almost lit my son up with water and electricity!"

  • "Marrakech, which was recently put under new management, is really a fantastic restaurant. On a Friday night the mood was lively and loud, at least in the back room where a belly dancer briefly performed. The front room is more subdued and better for a date night, if that's what you're looking for. The best thing about Marrakech is the food - it's authentic (the owner is Moroccan and really knows his stuff), and every dish is a winner. Huge flavor, nicely presented (but not in a trendy way, in an authentic way), and great portions for the price. Make the two-block walk from Dupont Circle to try this restaurant - it's probably one of the best experiences you'll have in the entire neighborhood!"

  • "Fun place for watching belly dancing but the food was not exceptional, especially for the Pix-Fix price of $47 including tip and tax. Took a while to get the food and the belly dancer was late. I'm in no hurry to go back."

  • "We had the New Year's Eve deal with 3 course dinner and champagne for $50/pp. The food was fine. Ambiance was nice although the room had a strong cleaning odor. The service was nice but fairly slow despite the fixed course meals."

  • "Overall we enjoyed our first dining experience at Marrakech. We especially liked the exotic atmosphere and the warm, friendly and efficient service. The dishes we sampled were mostly good or very good, but the one disappointment was the overcooked and dry chicken in the chicken tagine, which, fortunately, was still flavorful with the olives and preserved lemon. The fish tagine was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. We'd like to return to try other dishes."

  • "This was my third time in this restaurant and it was as wonderful as the first time, the server was very attentive, the food was amazing, we just had a blast with the belly dancer, we ended up dancing her. This is our new favorite restaurant, thank you Marrakech keep up the good work."

  • "Took my family out for dinner and arrived early to find that we had the whole dining room to ourselves (on a Friday!) I can't imagine why, as the food was delicious and the service, in our case, very prompt. We had chicken in pastry and baba ganoush for appetizers and chicken and fish tagines for entrees. All came with plenty to share and were delicious, and the mint tea afterwards was just right to end the meal. I felt bad that there wasn't anyone else in the room but it did make for easy conversation! I would definitely come back, and probably bring a crowd of friends to share the great food."

  • "We found this local gem by looking at some reviews in the Washington Post and then looking it up online. The reviews gave it high ratings and the reastaurant didn't disappoint. We went in quite late and had the restaurant mostly to ourselves so ended up talking to our server Driss, who was from morocco. He talked us into doing the tasting menu and I'm glad we did. The food was amazing and we got to taste our way through the menu. However, be aware that this is A LOT OF FOOD! Highly recommended !"

  • "Overall, the atmosphere was nice but just overly quite with no other guests eating which made it unusual. The food was okay, not what we expected it to be as I took my family to the other (Moroccan Restaurant in DC- New York Ave)- which closed down and was the best Morracan restaurant ever! The service at this location was not very good at all and with the food not being above average really ruined the experience. We werent explained the menu well and were never offered drink refills! The belly dancer was a hit and the entire team really enjoyed it. We will not be returning to this restaurant again nor would we recommend it. (Very disappointing dinner.)"

  • "Nice outings however . We found an error in our bill $27 . Three extra drinks were added to our tab. We spoke the wait Nd be removed it . If we were nit diligent we would have paid the extra money. It sounded it was delibrate."

  • "It's certainly a one of a kind gem for special events or romantic dinner. As a friendly man greets you at the door dressed in Moroccan clothing, you already feel you're entering a different country. The tables are spacious, candle lit with Moroccan design and antiques all around. The kind waiters provide the Moroccan hospitality to everyone making service a bit slow if it's busy. However, the great choices of amazing food will make up for it. A beautiful belly dancer comes out during your dinner twice adding to the experience, she will certainly pull you in the environment letting loose and find yourself leaving with a smile. You can't go wrong here if you're looking for a different yet good time."
