Marmalade offers gourmet food in a trendy, romantic setting. I recommend the 5-course tasting menu. The quality of the food was well worth the price, but I felt the cuisine of other restaurants in San Juan (e.g. Santaella) gave us more of a "wow" factor in that I didn't bite into anything here and want to devour it. That being said, this is certainly a top-notch place and worth a try if you're looking for fine dining in San Juan.

My wife and I dined here on the final night of our honeymoon. Marmalade came highly recommended, so we came in with high expectations; we were still blown away by the food and service. As I told the Chef (who, along with his wife/co-owner graciously visited our table to wish us a happy honeymoon), there are good restaurants you encounter while traveling, and then there are places for which you would travel back to that city/country just to eat at that restaurant--Marmalade falls into that second category. We loved Puerto Rico, so plan to return anyway. However, the experience at Marmalade was so impressive that I would fly back just to eat here again. Recommendation: Do 6 courses w/ wine paring. Our server Craig was also top notch.

Truly this is a great restaurant. Attentive knowledgeable service with no haste or intrusions. We had a party of six and they accommodated each of our individual needs. I had the four course with wine pairing. The radish carpaccio came first- the hint if bleu cheese truly set this off beautifully. The Iberico ham came next. The wine paired was just outstanding. Finally the course I had the Spanish Cassoulet which was truly superb in every aspect. Others had the paella appetizer, a sushi rol of delicious paella- outstanding. Ceviche Verde equally as good. Spend your last dime to try this superior restaurant.

Maybe I came in with high expectations but it just wasn't everything I wanted it to be. The restaurant is very nice don't get me wrong we loved the table we had but the food was just not something I would go back for, we even thought one of the dishes was way too salty. Everything was extremely expensive and definitely not worth it.

Outstanding, doesn't even begin to explain how fantastic our meal and dining experience was at Marmalade. Our five course menu began with the popcorn shrimp appetizers, which along with everything else was out of this world delicious. Our next course was white bean soup, followed by lobster risotto, and gnocci with pork ragout, and then our main meal of pork belly and tenderloin. For desert we had the special ice cream and bread pudding. Every dish was a combination of complex flavors. I have never experienced such an absolute perfect meal. Peter, the Chef/Owner defintely displays his world class abilities as a true Master World Class Top Chef. We went back 3 nites later and again had a perfect nite. Looking forward to our next PR trip.

Girlfriend and I tried this place on a recommendation the last night of a Labor Day getaway to San Juan. We each got the 5 course meal and shared. Of the 10 total dishes, all of them were what I would at least classify as "great" and 4 of them absolutely blew my mind and were some of the best things I've ever eaten. I'm not usually a fan of Chef's tasting menus or of spending $200+ on a meal, but this place was the exception to both. Both my girlfriend and I left stuffed and we couldn't stop talking the rest of the night just how good our meal was. If I'm ever back in San Juan, I'll be going to Marmalade again and if you're looking for a fancier meal while you're there, you should too.

Don't miss this gem of a find, located right in the heart of downtown old San Juan. I asked around for the most memorable place to eat in San Juan and I was told by my rain-forest guide, a colleague at work and of course my most trusted source of info Trip Advisor and they all pointed me to Marmalade as their first choice recommendation for an amazing 4,5 or 6 course meal with superb wine pairing. The chef comes out to the tables to chat and the food, while it is Caribbean it is inspired by the world travels of the chef. This place has a few menu items you don't want to leave without trying such as their famous white bean soup and butterscotch bread pudding with aged rum ice cream!

The service was excellent at this restaurant. My wife and I had the five course tasting with wine pairings on each dish. It was pricey, but you get your money's worth. Plenty of food and wine. The quality of food was great, however it is for more of an 'acquired taste' (not really what I am accustomed to). The white bean soup was great.

my wife and i celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary at marmalade and we're glad we did. the wait staff had prepared a quiet corner booth, with rose petals placed around the table... nice thoughtful touch. wine list was excellent, although we decided to order a la carte. for starters, the jamon iberico was spectacular, but apparently marmalade is known for their white bean soup, so we each had a small bowl. it was one of the best things we've ever tasted. just order it and thank us later! for dinner, we had the red snapper, and the lamb tagine. again, both were delicious. a great experience overall... we spoke w/the chef/owner came for a few minutes afterwards... we thanked him for a truly memorable meal and dining experience.

A must-go on your list in San Juan. The restaurant is lovely with great care taken in atmosphere down. To the beautiful tableware and glasses. The tasting menu is definitely the way to go, otherwise you would miss some of the interesting and delicious choices. Our server, Angela, was friendly, informative and charming. One of the diners was gluten-free - and other than 2 menu items, all others were without gluten - even most of the desserts! The chef-owner visited our table and he was genuine and friendly. Super-awesome dining experience. The staff even coordinated our taxi to arrive once the check was finalized. The dining experience was one we will never forget.

Beautiful restaurant, the outside was a little deceiving but once you entered you somehow forgot where you were. The food was amazing, definitely recommend at least 4 courses. The white bean soup served in an espresso cup is a must try, and the bread pudding will bring you to tears. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable which is super important and the owner/chef went around talking to guests, I always think that's a really nice touch.

Came here on a rainy/drizzly night on Saturday and it was pretty packed, so definitely make a reservation. I had the sea bass with bamboo rice and it was great, very fresh tasting. My husband had the lamb with couscous and oh my goodness, awesome! The chef even comes out and brings the food to you and shares some information about what you're eating. It was a great place for us to come while enjoying our honeymoon. I definitely liked the modern, comfortable ambiance and layout of the place. About moderately priced, but well worth it!

This top notch restaurant did not disappoint. You may order a la carte, or choose from the 4/5/6 course prix fixe with or without wine pairings. We opted for the four courses with wine pairings. There are no limitations on choices, you may select whatever you'd like from the full menu - I've NEVER experienced such freedom with a prix fixe, anywhere (U.S. or internationally). The food was divine, every course was generous and prepared to perfection. The wine pairings were also very generous and enhanced each course. This restaurant is now in my top ten of all restaurants, anywhere!

There are lots of restaurants in San Juan that claim to have food and wine fit for foodies. Marmalade is one of the few that delivers, and impressively so. We did the 6 course chef's tasting menu, with wine wine pairings, which was done quite well. If you want authentic Puerto Rican food, go to La Casita Blanca. But if you want high concept, innovative food and wine that you could find at the best restaurants on the main land, Marmalade is the way to go.

We came here for a Friday night dinner with our college age kids. Food was delightful and setting and service were excellent. Only drawbacks were that we'd been looking where a Puerto Rican dinner where this was anything but. It was more continental haute cuisine. All excellent, however. If you've spent time in PR, then this is definitely a place worth visiting. If you're on a short trip and want local flavor, you might no ptherwise disappointed here.

The food was both heavenly to eat and to see. The choices were innovative and the presentation was extraordinary . We had the 4 course tasting menu which provided lots of choices and more than enough food. Among the standouts were the lobster risotto , the paella and the fruit cobbler. I've had creme brûlée in some of the best restaurants in NYC but they can't hold a candle to Marmalade. The staff was welcoming and warm and made our anniversary dinner very special. The chef came to every table to check on the food. That personal touch was much appreciated.

Not just the best dinner we've had in PR, or the Caribbean -- one of the best dinners we've ever had. If the chef moved to New York or San Francisco and tripled the price, he'd give Thomas Keller a run for his money. I would rate the food, wine, and service on par with Per Se and ahead of French Laundry. The vegetarians with us had a great experience (the chef is a vegetarian, but the beef and lamb dishes were fabulous as well). Unlike other tasting menus, each diner chooses her dishes, and each has a separate wine pairing -- it makes for a fun sharing experience, and the wine pairings were incredibly well done. Really worth the trip.

I picked this restaurant becuase of it's great yelp reviews and fine-dining profile, but wasn't sure what to expect. Turned out to be the BEST decision of our entire vacation. Dishes I guarantee you have never tried before and excellent wine pairings. My boyfriend and I were seriously thinking about renting the apartment next door...it's that good. Particulars: we did the 5 course (soooo full after, probably could have done with the 4) with the wine pairing. Portions are small but generous and so are the demi pours!! Standouts for us were the white bean soup, the popcorn shrimp, the foie gras, and the tenderloin.

Spectacular food and ambiance. Perfect for foodies and people who love a creative and thoughtful choices with a service to match. The tasting menus were interesting and not over done with too many combinations. The wine parings were perfections. This should be on everyone's list to try and then plan to go back. We loved that the Chef/Owner made a point to come out to every table and chat, as well as help serve some of the courses. Really amazing and fun.

Every aspect of the restaurant is wonderful. The best aspect because it is so unique is the food. Combinations of items that are wonderful together that you would never picture together. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and very social. They help make this a unique experience. If you want to enjoy a non-rushed, entertaining evening, this is the place to go. The owner / chief is always available for a conversation, and to understand his ideas enlightens your evening.
