Marmalade Restaurant & Wine BarDid not disappointOn the recommendation of our waiter we went with the 4 course meal. It was perfect! Do not miss the white bean soup!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMarmalade Delivers Big TimeMy expectations were high. Marmalade did not disappoint. The interior is very posh, almost like eating in a Sultan's tent. The Tuscan bean soup was outstanding........considering there were no visible beans in the soup. The flavor was intense. My wife and I had the Moroccan lamb shank. This was another winner. Dessert was a Creme Brule with caramel sauce and caramel nuggets... melt in your mouth. Outstanding dinning experience.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Anniversary ExperienceMarmalade was recommended to us. Though a more modern vibe than expected, this was a perfect anniversary experience. We were visiting Old San Juan for the day, and due to some rain finished our tour earlier than planned. There was no problem seating us early in a special alcove with a multi-pillowed couch and rose petaled table. Everyone from the hostess to our waiter wished us happy anniversary multiple times. There was an extensive wine menu, and some crazy mixed drinks to start out a lovely evening. We both did a 5-course tasting menu and tried completely different things so to taste as much as possible. EVERYTHING was perfect: exciting, and tasty. If you are a foodie this is the place for you. Such exciting tastes! YUM!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBest place to dine in Puerto RicoThe whole restaurant is decorated extremely beautiful, the staff the food were excellent. I was do glad that we went there! If I ever go back to Puerto Rico a definite place I will revisit!!6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeMarmalade is the real deal! Ordered most of the menu and nothing was bad, or even mediocre.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOur Best Find In YearsThey called to confirm our reservation and asked if we had food allergies or restrictions. When we were seated our waiter already knew our limitations and guided us through the menu accordingly. HOW PROFESSIONAL. Then, our food arrived and each dish was better than the last. Before we reached dessert we made another reservation...and will probably make one more before we leave. OUTSTANDING...SERVICE, FOOD, AMBIANCE, ETC. Don't miss this gem!!!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best restaurantsOne of the best restaurants in the world...and they pay attention to every dietary requirement...very personal attention!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMperfect dinnig experiece!A beautiful restaurant! The food was amazing, so good that was increilable. The service was perfect, really good actitud, they know the food and the wine. Overall it was a perfect experience. I will be back!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food!My husband and I went to Marmalade for his 40th birthday. As vegetarians it can sometimes be tricky finding a good restaurant with vegetarian options. Marmalade has a dedicated section of their menu for vegetarian and the chef prepared a few items for us to try in addition to the entrees we ordered. Amazing food, best dinner I have eaten in a restaurant in a LONG time. Highly recommend checking them out if you are in San Juan6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing...Marmalade is probably one of the best restaurants in Puerto Rico. I took my wife there and we had a wonderful experience. This the only place we've been to that has an excellent Vegetarian menu with which you can create a tasting menu.
We had a wonderful meal, I really suggest the popcorn shrimp, halibut cheeks...and you of course the white bean soup which is their signature.
The service provided was probably the best we've ever experienced...informative, patient and very attentive.
We will definitely return soon.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent choice - we so enjoyedExcellent choice - we so enjoyed the food pairings with wine - this was amazing. Also, the personal touch of the chef coming to the table was a nice touch.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Service and FoodMy friend and I started with a signature cocktail which was fantastic. We did the 4 course food and wine paring and it was wonderful. We were compltely full and wondered how anyone does the 6 course. :-) The white bean soup was unbelievable. I read the reviews before we dined and everyone raved about it. I now know why.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMTops in San JuanMarmalade was the best restaurant we ate at in San Juan. The décor was hip yet tasteful, the menu was eclectic and very interesting and the server was very knowledgeable about both the food (including preparation) and the wine list.
Our appetizers and dinners were world class.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambiantThe relaxed atmosphere feel of the space, a feeling of being home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The food is indescribable fantastic. The essence of the flavors was unite and fresh, the flavors could be tasted but not recognizable leaving you for wanting more. The pairing with the wines superb like if you were floating in air. FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMbest birthday mealThe four course tasting is wonderful...you get to select your own food. Wonderfu wine pairings5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAMAZING!This was the best meal I've ever had. We did the 4 course tasting with the wine paring. It was absolutely amazing. Everything from the food to the wine to the service was perfect. Our server, Edwardo, was very knowledgable and attentive. He even ran down the street to catch us when my wife left her sweater.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is simply the best restaurantThis is simply the best restaurant I've ever been to. My husband agrees. We've both traveled quite a bit and have eaten in wonderful restaurants in many sophisticated places, but have never had five courses of exquisitely prepared food with superb wine pairings. You must order the tasting menu and experience as many dishes as possible at this extraordinary restaurant. We actually visited this restaurant twice in a 3 day period. Also, the decor is lovely - the chef/owner actually did the interior decorating! Another special touch is rose petals on the table, if you tell them in advance it is a special occasion.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMJust peachy with odd digressionsFrom high-backed chairs to swooped bowls, a superlative ambiance - one star subtracted for the inscrutable music selection. Cocktails were creative, refreshing, &flavorful. Food was superb, charming without being pretentious, perfectly cooked &presented. Between courses, our server flitted by with a cheery "Bon Appetit!" The only shocking, and I would venture to say, OFFENSIVE, touch was the "Water Service $7" for tap water tacked onto the bill. While happy to pay for the four-course meal as well as a 20% tip, we were jarred by this unprecedented charge. Refilling guests' glasses is baseline service &presenting a bill with an expense that has in no way been anticipated is a rather low fall for an otherwise transcendent dining experience.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing!Marmalade was absolutely amazing! My husband and I ate here for our 10th anniversary and were pleasantly surprised. The food was some of the best I have ever had and the service was impeccable. I can't wait to go back to Puerto Rico just so Thank you I can eat here again!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter than we rememberedWe hadn't been to Marmalade in a few years -- and decided to go for my husband's birthday. It was outstanding -- even better than we remembered. The black truffle pasta appetizer was amazing -- I had to share it with my kids. We will be going back again in the near future. If you are a local (as we are) or visiting PR, make reservations. You won't be disappointed.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA must eatWe made reservations for two couples based on recommendations from a friend and Marmalade did not disappoint. The head chef greeted us and gave us the specials right away. The cocktails were unique and fantastic. Appetizers left us wanting more. And the entrees were easily on par with the best food I've ever had. I would put this restaurant up against the finest restaurants in the States. A must eat for those wanting a great dining experience in San Juan.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingI made reservations and let them know it was our anniversary. When we walked in we were greeted with a happy anniversary and led to a romantic table with rose petals on it! The food was absolutely incredible and service top notch! I'm still dreaming of my black truffle pasta and can't wait to go back!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply AmazingChef Schintler wowed my group again and I hands down cannot recommend enough the absolute genius of the culinary adventure he creates. Perfectly balanced, eye appealing dishes make you realize what it may have been like to watch Di Vinci paint the Mona Lisa. Thank You again Marmalade for a wonderful evening. Much appreciation from St.Thomas.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous ResterauntOk, the finest food and drink I have ever put in my mouth. The renowned owner is in touch with all eating patrons, he took our order and served us, the six course meal was unbelievable, this place is 5 star and well worth the menus prices.I absolutely enjoyed it and recommend it highly. The service is hands down excellent.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday DinnerExcellent service, amazing food, great ambience. I'm fussy and this was one of the best meals ever. I will definitely return.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMUnexpectedWe had read the reviews so we had to see for ourselves, loved the design very modern, rather surprising but is something so fun about Old San Juan that it fits in perfectly. Food was delicious, we had the tasting menu paired with the wines, personally I found that 4 courses was enough. The white bean soup their speciality is outstanding, we live in Paris and this restaurant was a true find. The service was excellent as were the wines. We look forward to going back.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best restaurants ever!!My wife and I reserved a table for 11 people for our son's wedding rehearsal dinner, based on our review of their menu. We were absolutely blown away by the incredibly imaginative tasting menu! The entrees were equally wonderful, the wine choices were great, and the unique cocktails (and the very cool glasses used!) were to die for! Beyond all of this, the service was excellent throughout (not always easy to accomplish with a big crowd). We couldn't have picked a more welcoming and friendly place, coupled with outstanding cuisine and atmosphere. Thanks so much to all of you for the night!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWOW!!Top restaurant in Puerto Rico. The 4 course tasting menu is the way to go. We skipped the white bean truffle soup. We had 2 appetizers each plus entree and dessert. We started with the ceviche with warm tostones and the crispy beet/goat cheese salad. Both excellent but the ceviche was the best ever. Next was truffle papardella & short rib gnocchi followed by the swordfish and beef tenderloin main courses. Don't miss the butterscotch banana bread pudding that my wife kept stealing from me. Her "coffee" and donuts were very rich and good although the coffee was a warm dark chocolate/raspberry sauce. The chef/owner Peter came over and explained that he has cooked all over the world. The service was personable and friendly. DON'T miss it!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOustandingIt may have been the best meal of my life. I LOVE Marmalade. I've been to Puerto Rico a handful of times, and Marmalade is always on my list. This past visit, I had dinner there twice. Peter, the chef, is magic. Every bite, every flavor is unbelievable. I can't wait to go back.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAn unexpected and outstandingAn unexpected and outstanding meal in Old San Juan!!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Dining ExperienceWe chose Marmalade as our 10-Year Anniversary Dinner and couldn't have been happier. My luggage was soaked when it arrived at baggage claim so I had to arrive a bit more casual than anticipated, but I never felt awkward. This is 5-STAR cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. Couldn't be happier! The staff was always on point, from the rose petals awaiting on the table, to the constant whirlwind of servers making plates magically appear and disappear. We each did the 5-course menu (two white bean soups and eight different items) and every dish was off-the-charts amazing. The head chef even took our dessert order and cleared plates! I've never seen that from a nice restaurant! Left a great impression! Order at will. You can't go wrong!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome Place!I have been to this place more than once and every time I love it. It has vegan plates too which is not that common for a restaurant here. We did the 5 courses with the wine paring and it was just great. Our waiters were so funny and you can tell they truly enjoyed what they did. This is a great dining place in viejo san juan too so around the restaurant you will find great things to do, a great night life if you want.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to Marmalade a firstWe went to Marmalade a first time for our wedding anniversary and decided that we have to go a second time to test some other items from the menu. So we went back the same week. Everything was very good to excellent. Don't miss the pasta with black truffle. A gem ! Just a little disappointed with the desserts, nothing exceptional about it.
Definitively recommend this address.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative chef and warm, professionaCreative chef and warm, professional waitstaff make a visit to Marmalade a memorable experience. Can't wait to return on our next visit to San Juan.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMImmaculateThis was the best food I had on my entire vacation in Puerto Rico. The atmosphere is nice, the service is perfect, and the food was immaculate!! Definitely a upscale experience. The chef and his wife came out and introduced themselves and thanked us for dining with them. They should definitely expand!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBeyond my expectationsMy husband and I went there for our anniversary and we loved it. Asked hostess for a more romantic spot and she gave it to us. The waiter could not have been more friendly and accommodating . Food was superb. My husband ordered tasting for 5 and I did it for 4. Chef/owner didn't want me to sit a course with nothing, so he gave me a small specialty he created on his own. Owner is on the floor all night making sure everyone enjoys his food. Highly recommend!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Restaurant! The pick 4 menu was perfect! All the food was fresh and perfectly prepared. Nice and extensive wine list to top off the evening.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good but expensiveCreative dishes, excellent atmosphere and good service. Great for special occasions5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMbest dining experience everVery comparable to Top of the World Stratosphere and Emeril's Orlando (and this place is better). Enchanting ambience: backlit wavy wall installations, mounds of decorative couch cushions, little stools for ladies to rest their feet, lit archways, lighting sculptures, and orange light fixtures. Craig, was very personable and explained everything wonderfully, a true art in itself. Up front he told us if we tried something and didn't like it he would replace it with something else. We did have to do that with their signature white bean soup but overall everything else we ordered were major foodgasms. I was basically reduced to nodding and mmmm'ing b/c i couldn't form words or sentences anymore. We each had our own tasting set and drinks.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceDon't expect traditional Puerto Rican food (or any "Puerto Rican" food) but it was an excellent fine dining experience, with interesting dishes that were also delicious.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMJust Incredible CousineIt was my first time at Marmalade (hopefully not the last). If you are some what relate or enjoy fine cousine, then this is a place to visit. High quality ingredients, make your dinner a experience of a kind. Waitres service excellent. Even the Chef went to our table!!!!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAmong my top dining experiencesCreative dishes - well presented. Excellent atmosphere with tasteful modern elegance nestled in the second oldest city in the Americas. This is the perfect spot for a special occasion. One could eat light from the impressive starter menu and a single glass of wine--but why? If your time and wallet will allow, explore the four or five course options with the chef's choice of wine pairings. The service is stellar - our server took special care of us for an anniversary dinner --and seeing a couple's engagement proposal happen at an adjacent table confirmed that we were in "the place" for an exceptional experience. (Dinner AND a show!) Cocktails, salads, the house bean soup (really!), entrees, desserts, wine...all impressive.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBest San Juan rest.We tried the seven course dinner with wine pairing and was out of this world, white bean soup excellent!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTop Restaurants in Puerto RicoMarmalade was excellent! Parking was a a challenge and no Valet. Even on Tuesday night, you had to park a few blocks away. Upon entering early at 7 pm, it was not busy, but picked up. We had drinks at the bar which were creative and delicious, but the bartender was not very socia and at the front of the house, not a great first impression. The waitress on the other hand, Janelle, was full of cool confident personality! We did the 6 course tasting menu with wine as the menu was intended to be. It did not dissapoint, the food was creatively put together and plated and tasted for the most part great, most of it was amazing. Standouts included the lobster risotto, truffle pasta, their famous white bean soup, and dessert. Great Meal!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAttentive but not intrusiveAttentive but not intrusive service. It was a little noisy for a fine dining restaurant. The "small" portion tasting menu options is a great concept but I would consider the portion sizes to normal sized.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI can only echo other reviews,I can only echo other reviews, the food is phenomenal, atmosphere relaxed casual and service helpful and friendly without being pretentious. The food is the best I've experienced on this side of the Atlantic and easily on a par with some of the top European restaurants. Recommend the signature white bean soup which is in a class of its own. Also enjoyed the lobster risotto - the best risotto I have ever had and, if you are a creme brulee fan it's a must here. You can't go wrong whether you do the tasting menu or order a la carte.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and atmosphere wereThe food and atmosphere were amazing. My girlfriend and I each ordered the six-course tasting menu, of which we were allowed to choose from the menu. We could also select from the two specials they had that day (of which I ordered the pea risotto with morels, which was my favorite course). The owner came to our table to describe the specials and the wine pairings as well. Later, as my girlfriend's Lamb Tagine order was being presented, the owner returned and described a cabernet sauvignon from Schug Carneros Estate Winery, which paired perfectly with the lamb. He then proceeded to give this to her, at no charge. Marmalade is a restaurant that lived up to the numerous exceptional reviews. They not only made us feel welcome, but important.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely wonderful. We hadAbsolutely wonderful. We had tasting menu and were able to chose everything we wanted from the regular menu which is uncommon. Highly recommended!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMfood was exceptional, foiefood was exceptional, foie gras perfectly done and a house specialty white bean soup to die for. I wanted to steal my wife's lobster risotto. only negative for me was that all the desserts had tree nuts in them so I only had vanilla ice cream to go with a killer dessert wine (we did the wine pairing which was well-done)4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing and unique. The food was amazing and unique. Loved the tasting menu! Service was perfect. A must for anyone coming to Puerto Rico.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
