Marmalade Restaurant & Wine BarWOW!!Top restaurant in Puerto Rico. The 4 course tasting menu is the way to go. We skipped the white bean truffle soup. We had 2 appetizers each plus entree and dessert. We started with the ceviche with warm tostones and the crispy beet/goat cheese salad. Both excellent but the ceviche was the best ever. Next was truffle papardella & short rib gnocchi followed by the swordfish and beef tenderloin main courses. Don't miss the butterscotch banana bread pudding that my wife kept stealing from me. Her "coffee" and donuts were very rich and good although the coffee was a warm dark chocolate/raspberry sauce. The chef/owner Peter came over and explained that he has cooked all over the world. The service was personable and friendly. DON'T miss it!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOustandingIt may have been the best meal of my life. I LOVE Marmalade. I've been to Puerto Rico a handful of times, and Marmalade is always on my list. This past visit, I had dinner there twice. Peter, the chef, is magic. Every bite, every flavor is unbelievable. I can't wait to go back.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAn unexpected and outstandingAn unexpected and outstanding meal in Old San Juan!!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Dining ExperienceWe chose Marmalade as our 10-Year Anniversary Dinner and couldn't have been happier. My luggage was soaked when it arrived at baggage claim so I had to arrive a bit more casual than anticipated, but I never felt awkward. This is 5-STAR cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. Couldn't be happier! The staff was always on point, from the rose petals awaiting on the table, to the constant whirlwind of servers making plates magically appear and disappear. We each did the 5-course menu (two white bean soups and eight different items) and every dish was off-the-charts amazing. The head chef even took our dessert order and cleared plates! I've never seen that from a nice restaurant! Left a great impression! Order at will. You can't go wrong!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome Place!I have been to this place more than once and every time I love it. It has vegan plates too which is not that common for a restaurant here. We did the 5 courses with the wine paring and it was just great. Our waiters were so funny and you can tell they truly enjoyed what they did. This is a great dining place in viejo san juan too so around the restaurant you will find great things to do, a great night life if you want.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to Marmalade a firstWe went to Marmalade a first time for our wedding anniversary and decided that we have to go a second time to test some other items from the menu. So we went back the same week. Everything was very good to excellent. Don't miss the pasta with black truffle. A gem ! Just a little disappointed with the desserts, nothing exceptional about it.
Definitively recommend this address.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative chef and warm, professionaCreative chef and warm, professional waitstaff make a visit to Marmalade a memorable experience. Can't wait to return on our next visit to San Juan.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMImmaculateThis was the best food I had on my entire vacation in Puerto Rico. The atmosphere is nice, the service is perfect, and the food was immaculate!! Definitely a upscale experience. The chef and his wife came out and introduced themselves and thanked us for dining with them. They should definitely expand!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBeyond my expectationsMy husband and I went there for our anniversary and we loved it. Asked hostess for a more romantic spot and she gave it to us. The waiter could not have been more friendly and accommodating . Food was superb. My husband ordered tasting for 5 and I did it for 4. Chef/owner didn't want me to sit a course with nothing, so he gave me a small specialty he created on his own. Owner is on the floor all night making sure everyone enjoys his food. Highly recommend!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good but expensiveCreative dishes, excellent atmosphere and good service. Great for special occasions5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Restaurant! The pick 4 menu was perfect! All the food was fresh and perfectly prepared. Nice and extensive wine list to top off the evening.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMbest dining experience everVery comparable to Top of the World Stratosphere and Emeril's Orlando (and this place is better). Enchanting ambience: backlit wavy wall installations, mounds of decorative couch cushions, little stools for ladies to rest their feet, lit archways, lighting sculptures, and orange light fixtures. Craig, was very personable and explained everything wonderfully, a true art in itself. Up front he told us if we tried something and didn't like it he would replace it with something else. We did have to do that with their signature white bean soup but overall everything else we ordered were major foodgasms. I was basically reduced to nodding and mmmm'ing b/c i couldn't form words or sentences anymore. We each had our own tasting set and drinks.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceDon't expect traditional Puerto Rican food (or any "Puerto Rican" food) but it was an excellent fine dining experience, with interesting dishes that were also delicious.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMJust Incredible CousineIt was my first time at Marmalade (hopefully not the last). If you are some what relate or enjoy fine cousine, then this is a place to visit. High quality ingredients, make your dinner a experience of a kind. Waitres service excellent. Even the Chef went to our table!!!!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAmong my top dining experiencesCreative dishes - well presented. Excellent atmosphere with tasteful modern elegance nestled in the second oldest city in the Americas. This is the perfect spot for a special occasion. One could eat light from the impressive starter menu and a single glass of wine--but why? If your time and wallet will allow, explore the four or five course options with the chef's choice of wine pairings. The service is stellar - our server took special care of us for an anniversary dinner --and seeing a couple's engagement proposal happen at an adjacent table confirmed that we were in "the place" for an exceptional experience. (Dinner AND a show!) Cocktails, salads, the house bean soup (really!), entrees, desserts, wine...all impressive.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBest San Juan rest.We tried the seven course dinner with wine pairing and was out of this world, white bean soup excellent!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTop Restaurants in Puerto RicoMarmalade was excellent! Parking was a a challenge and no Valet. Even on Tuesday night, you had to park a few blocks away. Upon entering early at 7 pm, it was not busy, but picked up. We had drinks at the bar which were creative and delicious, but the bartender was not very socia and at the front of the house, not a great first impression. The waitress on the other hand, Janelle, was full of cool confident personality! We did the 6 course tasting menu with wine as the menu was intended to be. It did not dissapoint, the food was creatively put together and plated and tasted for the most part great, most of it was amazing. Standouts included the lobster risotto, truffle pasta, their famous white bean soup, and dessert. Great Meal!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAttentive but not intrusiveAttentive but not intrusive service. It was a little noisy for a fine dining restaurant. The "small" portion tasting menu options is a great concept but I would consider the portion sizes to normal sized.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI can only echo other reviews,I can only echo other reviews, the food is phenomenal, atmosphere relaxed casual and service helpful and friendly without being pretentious. The food is the best I've experienced on this side of the Atlantic and easily on a par with some of the top European restaurants. Recommend the signature white bean soup which is in a class of its own. Also enjoyed the lobster risotto - the best risotto I have ever had and, if you are a creme brulee fan it's a must here. You can't go wrong whether you do the tasting menu or order a la carte.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and atmosphere wereThe food and atmosphere were amazing. My girlfriend and I each ordered the six-course tasting menu, of which we were allowed to choose from the menu. We could also select from the two specials they had that day (of which I ordered the pea risotto with morels, which was my favorite course). The owner came to our table to describe the specials and the wine pairings as well. Later, as my girlfriend's Lamb Tagine order was being presented, the owner returned and described a cabernet sauvignon from Schug Carneros Estate Winery, which paired perfectly with the lamb. He then proceeded to give this to her, at no charge. Marmalade is a restaurant that lived up to the numerous exceptional reviews. They not only made us feel welcome, but important.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely wonderful. We hadAbsolutely wonderful. We had tasting menu and were able to chose everything we wanted from the regular menu which is uncommon. Highly recommended!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMfood was exceptional, foiefood was exceptional, foie gras perfectly done and a house specialty white bean soup to die for. I wanted to steal my wife's lobster risotto. only negative for me was that all the desserts had tree nuts in them so I only had vanilla ice cream to go with a killer dessert wine (we did the wine pairing which was well-done)4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing and unique. The food was amazing and unique. Loved the tasting menu! Service was perfect. A must for anyone coming to Puerto Rico.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly recommendedService and attention - excellent, value for money (expect to pay twice the price for the same food in Europe worthy of a 1 or 2 Michelin star restuarant!). Chef took the time to talk to you which became an indepth discussion about food and wine (a passion of the Chef and also my two guests). The food was excellent, and I felt guilty when both the waitress and chef asked to serve me a new dish when I left most of my main due it not being to my taste, it was no fault of the restuarant. The rest of the meal was divine and my guests appeared to thoroughly enjoy the meal and wine (including desert!) as did I. This restaurant deserves a Top Number 1 rating for San Juan.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was fantastic! StaffFood was fantastic! Staff were friendly and attentive. This is on par with NY caliber restaurants!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSuper food & loved the decorSuper food & loved the decor and environment. A must visit in San Juan.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly FantasticI have dined around the world, and it was one of the best meal's I have ever had. The service was outstanding, Danny, our server, was attentive, gracious, and what impressed me most, knew the menu backwards and forwards down to the minute details of dish ingredients. When we were undecisive, we asked if he could suggest dishes and he hit it out of the park! I also take my hat off to the mixologist, the "margarita" with pepper infused ice was incredible! The special touches also made the dining experience. One guest in our party did not order an appetizer and the chef did not want him to feel left out while the rest ate so he sent him a tasting of the white bean soup which we could have made a meal of on its own. Truly Fantastic!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMTwo gigantic thumbs up ...Two gigantic thumbs up ... food was brilliant ... delectable, unexpected pairings and super twists on traditional Latin fair masterfully executed and presented.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMBest meal ever!We are so grateful to everyone at Marmalade for making our anniversary dinner so memorable. The service was top-notch. The white bean soup was amazing! We did the five course tasting with the wine pairings, which was more than enough. If you are ever in San Juan, please be sure to make reservations at Marmalade!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMust try-will impressSimply awesome. The food was very creative and thoughtful. Marmalade came highly recommended. And we were not disappointed! One of the most amazing culinary experiences we've ever had!! Every detail was perfect! Chef Peter went above and beyond for us being that we were celebrating a birthday and made it a night we definitely wont forget. Thank you to Marmalade restaurant and staff!!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMJust go!Do not leave San Juan without trying Marmalade. Food and service were excellent! Do the tasting menu as you will want to sample as many dishes as possible. Loved the white bean soup, lobster rissoto, jamon iberico, lamb tangine. The banana/butterscotch bread pudding may be the best thing I have ever eaten! The chef was circulating all night and was a pleasure to speak with. He truly cares about his patrons and geniunely listened to all our praise and feedback. They could be charging much more than they do as the place is packed all the time. Will visit every chance we get!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI knew Marmalade's would haveI knew Marmalade's would have stiff competition after having great food on our cruise. Of course, they were able to rally and once again meet our expectations for our second trip in 12 months. The food was wonderful and appealing to the eye as well. This chef could be on Iron Chef and win.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant was outstanding. This restaurant was outstanding. I highly recommend this place services was amazing, and the food was outstanding. I eat all over the country and Marmlade's is on my top 5 restaurant.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAh- what a great experience..Ah- what a great experience.. :) We did the 4 course meal, they recommended the white bean soup but since I'm lactose intolerant, I chose the shrimp for my 1st course, and my husband chose the lobster risotto(he does not like beans)..both were excellent.
The rest of my meal, I had kale salad, quinoa rellenos and no no cake for dessert. The pineapple mojito was the best in town. :)
It was worth every penny..great great restaurant, will go back next time we are in town. Oh and the server was awesome too, I forgot his name, Im sorry..4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMa truly sublime experiencelocated in old san juan. dinned 4/18/13 for friend's birthday. fantastic experience! service (impeccable - craig was our server, and his descriptions of the courses and the wine pairing was 100% on point), the flow of the meal & general friendliness from all the staff & ambiance set the tone for dinner. had the 5 course tasting menu w/ wine pairing. food is a simply divine experience one has to encounter for oneself. words fail to truly describe it. wanted to lick all my plates - it was that good! had the paella, white bean soup (craig described it as comfort food - DEFINITELY), black truffle tagiliatelle pasta, sea bass, sorbet. menu may be on the pricey side - WORTH EVERY DOLLAR!! definite repeat customer for future trips to PR4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMscrumptious!Loved the food! Kudos to the chef. We especially liked our server, Ray. He was attentive, friendly, and always smiling. Thanks Ray! My husband and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary here and the restaurant did not disappoint. The ambiance was delightful and regal, he and I felt like a king and queen eating dinner. We had the 6 course tasting menu and sangrias, all pricey, but very delicious. The lobster risotto was to die for and the banana bread pudding was sinfully delicious! A must!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my boyfriend thereI took my boyfriend there for his birthday. Its was the best place ever. He loved everything he orded. The service was great. Amazing time.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding first 3 courses, butOutstanding first 3 courses, but desserts are definitely not their forte. We tried the No-No Cake (should've taken the hint) and the doughnuts and both were awful. But don't let that dissuade you from Marmalade. It really is a gem, and was the best meal we had in beautiful Old San Juan.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and the staffExcellent food and the staff were very attentive. I had the four-course tasting menu and my date had just an entree. They brought her little plates of various things for her to have during the appetizer courses so she would have something to eat too. Each course was well prepared, tasty, and well presented. The head chef and owner was circulating the dining room, talking with customers, etc.; we chatted for quite a while about food, the island, his experiences cooking around the world, etc. We never felt rushed, nor did we ever feel ignored.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely one of the bestDefinitely one of the best restaurants I have ever been too. Made our anniversary experience, special and unforgettable. Attention to detail...perfect combo of excellent service and food. Chef owner visited our table and we could see why Marmalade is a success... Humble and sweet guy!!!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was one of the best mealsThis was one of the best meals I've had in years. I was skeptical when the waiter said the 5 course tasting menu started with a bang and just got better from there. Marmalade delivered. The wine pairings also worked pretty well (the port served with the foie was a little sweet for my liking). This is a true Old San Juan gem.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
