My husband and I got recommendations from multiple friends to hit Marmalade while in SJ. We are frequent foodies, and love trying hot spots. We found the service to be excellent here, the food good, not great, and the pricing about 30% higher than it should be. Knowing retail and typical wine mark-ups on bottles, Marmalade needs to take it down a notch. We liked our food, but it did not nearly make our Top 10 list. My tenderloin was overcooked (asked for medium, got well done), and all the other courses tasted fine but there was nothing that stood out as notable.

Restores my faith in high end food / tasting menus / dequstation. Four of us dined here. Two of us ordered a six course tasting menu, and the other two ordered the four course menu. We were each able to individualize our choices. All told, we tried at least 12 different dishes, and every one was fantastic. Our server and assistant server were knowledgeable and passionate about the menu and about food in general. We will return here on our next trip to Puerto Rico!

We had an outstanding meal at Marmalade recently. Jonathan was our waiter, he was professional and helpful. We started with the global warming cocktail, which was delicious and unique. We selected the 5 course fixed prix option. The white bean black truffle soup, the house specialty, and the lobster risotto were excellent. My husband loved the gnocchi. My halibut entrée did not live up to the great flavor of the other dishes but my husband really enjoyed the pork cheeks. The crème brulee and bread pudding desserts were incredible. We loved the atmosphere, modern yet intimate, and appreciated that we were not rushed. The price was reasonable, service impeccable, food outstanding. We would highly recommend Marmalade!

Overall it was a pleasant experience and the restaurant is beautiful and service was excellent. We ordered the 4 course tasting menu for $65. The first course is a delicious white bean soup which is their signature dish which was heavenly. We chose the lobster risotto and foi gras for second course. The risotto had great flavor and lots of seafood but not all the rice was cooked through. The foi gras was way too salty. We ordered the sea bass and scallops for main course. The sea bass was delicious and cooked perfectly. The 3 large scallop dish was beautifully presented but the texture was not the best quality and was seemed frozen for a long time.

I booked this spot for my 4th wedding anniversary dinner with my husband. We both had the 6-course wine pairing. Others on Open Table gave it rave reviews with one person even stating it was among the top 10 meals they'd ever had. That's blowing things out of proportion. Certain dishes were *incredibly good* but certainly NOT worth doing the 6-course wine pairing. Order the foie gras and white bean soup.

"We want you to leave with a smile." A restaurant that tells you before even offering you the menu that everything should be to your liking regardless of what their accomplished chefs think is remarkable as well as refreshing. We had the 4 course tasting, fabulous service, food, portions, plating and price. I do not eat beans, ever and requested another option from the Mini Navy Bean Soup. I was asked that I try it and if I didn't like it he would be happy to get me another menu item. It was a velvety, luscious bowl of delicious. A must go to when in OSJ!

We made reservations based on a recommendation and we were overwhelmed by the food, the decor and the personality of our fantastic waitress. On a scale of one to ten, we would rate this a strong eleven. Can't wait to go back to Puerto Rico to duplicate this experience.

Great restaurant; came back after having been three years ago - quality is still impeccable. Service here is top notch and friendly, with the owner making rounds. Menu is still an eclectic array of delicious options. Tasting menu is the way to go, and while it is a pricey menu for San Juan, similar quality or style would likely run you double in NYC. Really enjoy this place; wish I had just gone here three nights in a row - could have had a unique experience each time!

Recently ate at Marmalade during a vacation to San Juan. We had the six course tasting menu with drink pairings. You can actually choose five of the courses if you prefer, or just let the chef decide; the white bean soup is thankfully mandatory in the tasting menu. The pork cheeks and halibut cheeks dishes were only "decent", though perhaps we were getting full by that point. The other dishes were excellent and the white bean soup is memorably delicious and ranks easily in the top five dishes I have eaten. Our server Heribert was THE BEST - attentive and entertaining without being intrusive. The drink pairings were well chosen and introduced me to Cocquino, which will become a new holiday tradition for me.

We made a reservation for our honeymoon at Marmalade after many positive reviews and rankings for being a romantic restaurant. As a world traveler, I have visited numerous restaurants. I never wrote a review on a restaurant before because I didn't feel the need to do so. After celebrating my 40th birthday with my group of family and friends at Marmalades, I was so pleased with the service, the food and the ambiance that I was compelled to write a review. The 15 course meal left me speechless. Each course left my mouth watering for more. The course sizings were perfect. The chef was so personable and made us feel at home. Of course, we closed the restaurant down!!! If you're ever in Puerto Rico, please drive to old San Juan and be prepared to be WOWED!! by visiting Marmalades. The experience will exceed your expectations!!!

Marmalade offers gourmet food in a trendy, romantic setting. I recommend the 5-course tasting menu. The quality of the food was well worth the price, but I felt the cuisine of other restaurants in San Juan (e.g. Santaella) gave us more of a "wow" factor in that I didn't bite into anything here and want to devour it. That being said, this is certainly a top-notch place and worth a try if you're looking for fine dining in San Juan.

What a great dinning experience. Great food, staff and chef/owner. We were celebrating birthdays for my wife and I. My wife has to eat gluten free. The staff was so knowledgeble about gluten free it suprised me. There is a reason why this restaurant is rated #1 in San Juan by Trip Advisor. When in San Juan don't think twice about going there. They take reservations 30 days in advance. Reservations are a must.

My wife and I dined here on the final night of our honeymoon. Marmalade came highly recommended, so we came in with high expectations; we were still blown away by the food and service. As I told the Chef (who, along with his wife/co-owner graciously visited our table to wish us a happy honeymoon), there are good restaurants you encounter while traveling, and then there are places for which you would travel back to that city/country just to eat at that restaurant--Marmalade falls into that second category. We loved Puerto Rico, so plan to return anyway. However, the experience at Marmalade was so impressive that I would fly back just to eat here again. Recommendation: Do 6 courses w/ wine paring. Our server Craig was also top notch.

Truly this is a great restaurant. Attentive knowledgeable service with no haste or intrusions. We had a party of six and they accommodated each of our individual needs. I had the four course with wine pairing. The radish carpaccio came first- the hint if bleu cheese truly set this off beautifully. The Iberico ham came next. The wine paired was just outstanding. Finally the course I had the Spanish Cassoulet which was truly superb in every aspect. Others had the paella appetizer, a sushi rol of delicious paella- outstanding. Ceviche Verde equally as good. Spend your last dime to try this superior restaurant.

Outstanding, doesn't even begin to explain how fantastic our meal and dining experience was at Marmalade. Our five course menu began with the popcorn shrimp appetizers, which along with everything else was out of this world delicious. Our next course was white bean soup, followed by lobster risotto, and gnocci with pork ragout, and then our main meal of pork belly and tenderloin. For desert we had the special ice cream and bread pudding. Every dish was a combination of complex flavors. I have never experienced such an absolute perfect meal. Peter, the Chef/Owner defintely displays his world class abilities as a true Master World Class Top Chef. We went back 3 nites later and again had a perfect nite. Looking forward to our next PR trip.

Girlfriend and I tried this place on a recommendation the last night of a Labor Day getaway to San Juan. We each got the 5 course meal and shared. Of the 10 total dishes, all of them were what I would at least classify as "great" and 4 of them absolutely blew my mind and were some of the best things I've ever eaten. I'm not usually a fan of Chef's tasting menus or of spending $200+ on a meal, but this place was the exception to both. Both my girlfriend and I left stuffed and we couldn't stop talking the rest of the night just how good our meal was. If I'm ever back in San Juan, I'll be going to Marmalade again and if you're looking for a fancier meal while you're there, you should too.

Don't miss this gem of a find, located right in the heart of downtown old San Juan. I asked around for the most memorable place to eat in San Juan and I was told by my rain-forest guide, a colleague at work and of course my most trusted source of info Trip Advisor and they all pointed me to Marmalade as their first choice recommendation for an amazing 4,5 or 6 course meal with superb wine pairing. The chef comes out to the tables to chat and the food, while it is Caribbean it is inspired by the world travels of the chef. This place has a few menu items you don't want to leave without trying such as their famous white bean soup and butterscotch bread pudding with aged rum ice cream!

The service was excellent at this restaurant. My wife and I had the five course tasting with wine pairings on each dish. It was pricey, but you get your money's worth. Plenty of food and wine. The quality of food was great, however it is for more of an 'acquired taste' (not really what I am accustomed to). The white bean soup was great.

my wife and i celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary at marmalade and we're glad we did. the wait staff had prepared a quiet corner booth, with rose petals placed around the table... nice thoughtful touch. wine list was excellent, although we decided to order a la carte. for starters, the jamon iberico was spectacular, but apparently marmalade is known for their white bean soup, so we each had a small bowl. it was one of the best things we've ever tasted. just order it and thank us later! for dinner, we had the red snapper, and the lamb tagine. again, both were delicious. a great experience overall... we spoke w/the chef/owner came for a few minutes afterwards... we thanked him for a truly memorable meal and dining experience.

Amazing service, portions were too large for 'tasting' menu but all wonderful except the gnocchi. Best service on the island but the owner makes the post-meal follow up very uncomfortable.

A must-go on your list in San Juan. The restaurant is lovely with great care taken in atmosphere down. To the beautiful tableware and glasses. The tasting menu is definitely the way to go, otherwise you would miss some of the interesting and delicious choices. Our server, Angela, was friendly, informative and charming. One of the diners was gluten-free - and other than 2 menu items, all others were without gluten - even most of the desserts! The chef-owner visited our table and he was genuine and friendly. Super-awesome dining experience. The staff even coordinated our taxi to arrive once the check was finalized. The dining experience was one we will never forget.

Beautiful restaurant, the outside was a little deceiving but once you entered you somehow forgot where you were. The food was amazing, definitely recommend at least 4 courses. The white bean soup served in an espresso cup is a must try, and the bread pudding will bring you to tears. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable which is super important and the owner/chef went around talking to guests, I always think that's a really nice touch.

This restaurant was the cherry on top of a great vacation in Puerto Rico. It's got an upscale vibe but it's not stuffy or pretentious. The feeling I got inside the place was cool, sophisticated, and comfortable. Service was impeccable. Our server was attentive and accommodating to our needs. I thought it was awesome that the chef/owner was the guy who came to our table to tell us about the chef's special. As for the food, everything me and my girlfriend ate was just incredible. They all looked like works of art and every bite was just bursting with flavor. If I'm ever back in Puerto Rico, this is one place I will surely visit again.
