A word from Marlowe
Marlowe is a market driven neighbourhood bistro housed in a rustic-chic and inviting space. Bright and bold flavors from a three-star chef, and a little family history create an exciting new restaurant concept nestled in San Francisco’s slick SoMa neighborhood. Marlowe was created by restaurateur Anna Weinberg along with a few partners and pals.

Offering a menu of classic bistro favorites with unique and flavorful twists, Marlowe Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio, who earned three stars from the San Francisco Chronicle for her cooking at Cortez, created a mix of snacks, appetizers, mains and sides made up of the kind of food she loves to eat when she’s not working.

I've been a big fan of Marlowe for years. The burger is special and everything carefully prepared and delicious. This is my first visit to the new location and all I can say unfortunately is "meh". Burger was oversalted and bun was cold, and a bit stale. I hope it's just moving pains but will need a positive report before returning....

I ordered the mushroom soup and the chorizo & shrimp. The mushroom soup was amazing, but small. I split with a friend and we got two very small expresso cups that were about 3/4 filled for $9. The chorizo was too salty and overpowered the shrimp so i would pass on that next time.

I've heard about Marlowe for years. Sad to say, we didn't really like anything except the salad (which is hardly a good test for a kitchen/chef). Everything was overly salted. The "green chicken" could have been fried anything. The pork chop had a ridiculous amount of white fat around tender but tasteless meat. The pumpkin was basically painted on the plate. And the much-hyped burger wasn't even the best I'd eaten this week. (That honor goes to Level III.) The atmosphere wasn't just "energetic" but deafening. My ears are still ringing. If it wasn't for the cheeriness of our server, the evening would have been a complete bust. There was a long line at the door when we left. I am gladly giving up my seat.

We've always loved Marlowe. It was a closeby (even closer now) gem in SOMA. The food is fantastic and the ambiance very nice, even at the bar. We recently went to the new location, which we were excited about because of the additional seating, and were confronted with a wall of noise. I hope the owners can figure a way to mitigate it. The food and service were unchanged--great!

We live next door to the new Marlowe location and while we were sad to see COCO500 go, we are even more excited there is more seating and room at Marlowe! Everything was great, minus the service. Our waitress was miserable for a large part of the service and it was glaringly obvious to us and the table beside us. I've had nothing but good service at the old Marlowe so hoping this is just growing pains.

I went to Marlowe before it moved to this new location. It has kept its intimate charm even with the expansion and the food is as good as ever. We had deviled eggs, polenta, pork chop, black cod, and a few other appetizers. The wine list was reasonable and well composed. Our server gave us a few great suggestions. He was on-point! The only reason I gave a 4 four service is because we were not seated until 10:15 for our 9:45 PM reservation. Also, one of the servers made an inappropriate comment that came off a rude. My guest was upset and after I told my server he did his best to fix the situation.

Marlowe maintains their status as a well run eatery with servers as gracious as they are professional bringing top notch food at this upgraded new locale, having recently moved from their nearby cramped digs on Townsend. The new space is kind of loud with bare floors and walls but the vibe is lively. Smoked Cod Conserva Tartine, Shrimp Roll and Fried Chicken Sando were all winners. Happy to see that they still had the brown Brussels sprout "chips", though disappointed they weren't offering the deviled eggs at lunch. These folks know how and are sure to keep taking over this town.

Turns out this was the first day open in their new location on Brannan St. But the food was as excellent as before, and the service was a bit faster. We had the crispy fried chicken sandwich and the shrimp roll, both fantastic. But to call the noise level "energetic" is a gross understatement--we joked that we needed to get someplace quiet, like AT&T Park. (In fairness, this WAS just before a playoff game, and patrons were more than a little boisterous.)

I understand the new density of the area where this restaurant is located, but the venue is packed with chairs and not comfortable. The starters came fairly soon, but we were served a plate of saltines and butter well after the plates were all removed. This was our signal that dinner would be a bit late and it was. I would suggest they rename this restaurant What? because that word was used a lot by all. My date sat next to me and we could barely hear each other. Maybe the late night crowd is quieter.

We'd been recommended this place by friends & had high expectations. We were a bit disappointed with the service- it was a tad rushed eg we were finishing our desserts and hadn't even finished our wine when the final cheque arrived (hadn't asked for it and there were still plenty of other diners in the restaurant so it's not like they were waiting to shut!) We were planning on ordering another wine but, as they brought the cheque we paid & left. Menu was ok and the food tasty enough. I asked my partner how his burger was and he said he was "a good burger"- nothing more nothing less! My main was good (mushroom polenta) but that was the only vegetarian main on the menu. Good for a quick lively dinner- not an intimate setting

My daughter had eaten here before and recommended it, my expectations were exceeded once the food began to arrive. we had a fabulous dinner! the Polenta dish was absolutely exquisite, the other dishes we had: Ahi Tuna Duo, Gem Salad, Di Stefano Burrata were definitely above average and beautifully seasoned, and to finish it all off -- the TCHO Chocolate Cream Pie was PERFECTION manifested - the combination of textures and flavors with just enough salt and sweet to make it completely irresistible! I can't wait to go again.

My wife and I enjoy dining at Marlowe before Giants games. The hamburger and chicken sandwich are affordable and delicious. We dined at the new location on Tuesday and could not believe how loud it was in this new space. There were a lot of baseballs fans but it seems like they need to resolve the sound issue especially since you are seated so close to others. We still enjoy the food, but I prefer the old space and it's intimate atmosphere.

Marlowe is great. Our server was very professional and friendly. We started with a seasonal salad and their crispy brussels sprouts. Both were very good. In preparing for our trip to SF I happened across a review of "amazing brussel sprout chips!" and I was intrigued enough to plan my day in the city around our reservation. Sure enough, those suckers were truly amazing. Even my non-paleo friends said that they would prefer the sprout chips over potato chips. Moving on from that taste of heaven, our other appetizer was shrimp that was practically asserting to us from the table, a la Pepe the Prawn, that they are not shrimps - they are king prawns. Our main course was good, but all three of us said that our items were unremarkable, save for the baked cheesy cauliflower which had us fighting over the final bites. Dessert was tasty, but not memorable. When you go - get veggies and prawns!

made a snide comment about tipping more. This came after a group of us had just split the bill and were still figuring how to split things out. When the waiter came back with our cards, he had the audacity to tell us that they don't include tip in the service and that there is only a $12 for a $260 bill. I don't know if it's just me but I am never going to eat at a restaurant that micromanages what their customers tip. Although we ended up giving them their 20% tip, they lost all future business from me and my friends.

The Marlowe burgers were outstanding and altho I'm not a big fan of chicken, the chicken vert was really delicious. We shared a great dessert (strawberry over ice cream) - 3 of us were sated. The modern, clean, decor, with grey's, stainless, and glass/light, presaged the professional service, beautiful food presentation, and many delicious small and large plates that we ordered. The atmosphere was relaxed, though we never had to wait for the waiter. He was always there and in the background, but never hovering. Never felt rushed. Every course was perfectly timed. Casual dress and business attire mixed well. Prices were at the higher end, though not out of line. Only two very small issues, the tables against the mirror were a little too close and the base of the tables were so large it was difficult to straddle it, and resting feet on it caused the table to move. But this place is in our top three in San Francisco, now.
