Marlowe is a market driven neighbourhood bistro housed in a rustic-chic and inviting space. Bright and bold flavors from a three-star chef, and a little family history create an exciting new restaurant concept nestled in San Francisco’s slick SoMa neighborhood. Marlowe was created by restaurateur Anna Weinberg along with a few partners and pals.

Offering a menu of classic bistro favorites with unique and flavorful twists, Marlowe Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio, who earned three stars from the San Francisco Chronicle for her cooking at Cortez, created a mix of snacks, appetizers, mains and sides made up of the kind of food she loves to eat when she’s not working.

  • "They COOKED the steak tartare!!! It was very tasty and still pink inside, but still, a cooked steak tartare is just a burger, not a steak tartare. Apart from that, the food was very tasty, both the polenta with mushrooms and the artic char were delicious. The bone marrow was also very tasty."

  • "We love coming here. The deviled eggs and pistachios are too tasy so we eat them all and then start the dinner near sated. Nevertheless all the food entrees are great but the steak fritted (really a sliced filet) is excellent and the wines by the glass are numerous and excelent... A major plus is thta there are always taxos across the street to get back to our part of town."

  • "You have to try the shrimp roll. The roll is long and not very doughy, so you won't feel stuffed from the bread. The spices are great and it was the most delicious dish I have ever tried. The place is packed and it is noisy, so don't expect to have any intimate conversations there. Service was great. Try their apricot ice tea, but share it between 2 people. At $6/drink, you get a pitcher and we ordered 2 because we didn't know it was a pitcher and not just a glass."

  • "I've been to Marlowe many times and I absolutely adore the food and the location. Wanted to take the boyfriend before you close and move to the new digs. Food was fantastic, as usual. Brussel sprout chips, deviled eggs, burger, pork chop...yum! Service went downhill when they forgot our entrees and then they pretty much forgot about us altogether. Four groups that were seated after us finished and left before we did. Nonetheless, I've always had good service until this one time so I still love you, Marlowe!"

  • "We went here for my son's birthday dinner. Overall, everyone is our party was happy with the meal and the event. The appetizers were very good, especially the bourbon glazed pistachios, bone marrow and burrata. My son had the best dish which was the pork chop although the Marlowe hamburger is good as well. Respectable wine list. They did forget to wrap up the bones for us from the bone marrow order (for our dogs), which we had asked them to do, so one ding on the service for that. This is a really good choice is you are going to the ball game at AT & T Park as they have early seating and you can just park once , then walk right over to the game."

  • "I've found pork chops to be the hardest meat to cook just right, and Marlowe gets it right every time. I've gone there three times and I can't get myself to order anything else. It's big, juicy on the inside, perfectly seasoned and charred on the outside. Alone it would be fantastic but the pairing with the sides, especially the morcilla, is synchronous medley of flavors playing a sweet love ballad to your taste buds. My friends have also gotten the risotto and the steak and loved them. Tip to wise: Try Jenn Puccio's other restaurants as well, Park Tavern and Cavalier, for a taste of more greatness."

  • "Former "South" location is convenient to CalTrain and had a line waiting for the 5:30 opening. Food was excellent: beef cooked to perfection; thin, crisp fries. Menu, however, is limited to six simple mains and similarly-few choices for other courses. Bistro-style approach usually involves nightly specials, but no food and one drink was on the nightly list."

  • "Planned a 40th birthday diner for a girlfriend and absolutely loved this restaurant! It was a first time for most of us so we wanted to try it all! There were many items to choose from which all sounded amazing. From the bone marrow, to polenta, to crispy brussel sprouts and pork chop every dish was tasty. Easy to share or devour on your own! The service was great and our server as well as the woman who may have been the manger were very attentive, knowledgable about the items, and always had a smoke on their faces! Thanks so much for a great birthday celebration. We will definitely be back!"

  • "The recommended homemade tea was deemed delicious by all, and the pitcher concept was a great idea (plus reasonable). Food was innovative and interesting (a tiny bit spicy for me, but everyone else liked it). It was rather noisy when we arrived for lunch at noon, but got better as tables emptied Everyone in the party thought it was really fun, tasty and satisfying experience, and will be passing on the good report! Impressed how thorough the reservation management was!"

  • "Went here for my spouse's birthday dinner. Food was great. We had the brussel sprout chips, pistachios, Burrata, polenta, and cauliflower side dish. The Brussel sprout chips and Polenta were truly fantastic. Well worth the visit for those two alone. The Cauliflower was a bit salty, but did have good flavor with the smoked cheese. The Burrata and pistachios were good, but not great. I would definitely go back again when the menu next changes. I really liked the environment-busy but not too loud, with a rustic feel. The wine menu was good, but we brought our own wine bottle for a $20 corkage fee."

  • "The menu's not extensive, but all the things we tried were great! Nibbly burrata, pistachios, brussel sprout chips - yum! Baked oysters were also excellent. Half of our group ordered the poulet vert and loved it -- you get half of a pretty small chicken -- about game hen size. The burger and shrimp roll were extremely tasty. Need to get back to try the fried chicken sandwich. If you just have a main, you might still be hungry -- portions are fine unless you're a big eater. But there are so many good appetizers they're hard to pass up. We sat at the communal table. The earthquake retrofit beams are important but pretty intrusive. You have to climb in on the bench seats, and they're not that comfortable."

  • "Everyone in my group had the Marlowe's burger and either fries or salad. No one was disappointed. The meat is freshly ground which is a must for a great burger. Everyone was pleased with their wine or beer choice. The service was very good and fast, which was appreciated since we were going to a Giants game. The only negative aspect is the offering of only wine and beer. Some members in my party wanted a mixed drink. We plan to return."

  • "The food was divine. We enjoyed the Brussels Sprout Chips, Scallop entree, Marlowe Burger, the chocolate mousse & the fruit crisp. Unfortunately no cocktails available. Our server was helpful, suggesting different wines & a carafe to save money. However after taking a few bites of dessert, she dropped the check. She never again asked if we wanted more wine or anything else. My best friend and I were in no rush and would have enjoyed another glass while chatting. She kept coming over and looking over our shoulder to see if we were leaving. Manager or host did the same. I get that people are waiting, but we are paying, seated guests. Don't push us out and not even speak to us. I've worked at restaurants in the past & this is unacceptable."

  • "We were a group of five and had made a reservation a week prior. We checked in at 7:30 for an 8:00 reservation and went up the street for a cocktail before. We got back at 8:10 and were seated immediately for yummy food, great service, and a fun night out. The noise level is high and we were definitely all leaning in to hear each other, which was fine but not great for someone who might not have the patience or tolerance for loud. Half our party had the scallops and they were all in heaven! The rest had burgers which were perfection. The decor and environment were cozy, interesting and well-designed. Our whole party was happy with the choice."

  • "Went there with old friends from the east coast. A very limited menu. The one room is small and sort of dingy. Of course the famous Brussels sprouts were wonderful, as were the bone marrow and oysters appetizers. Little Gem salads were nothing special. The pork chops looked nearly charred. And the polenta with mushrooms was swimming in oil. It was so noisy that conversation was nearly impossible. Great service from our attentive waitress. "
