A word from Mark's Restaurant
Owner & Executive Chef Mark Freedman, formally of his critically acclaimed “Mark’s on Westover”, returned to the Triad's fine dining scene with "Mark's Restautant" in June of 2011, and has since forged Greensboro's best kept culinary secret. His lavish seasonal menu-featuring a diverse spread of unique small plates, distinctly crafted Entrees, and a wonderful selection of housemade desserts-reflects his French classical training; but, where Chef Mark distinguishes himself is through his heavy use of locally sourced & produced ingredients, and 30+ years of eclectic culinary experience.

To complement the distinctive dining room, our Resident Mixologist has fashioned the most unique bar program in Greensboro through his local-centric sourcing of liquors, liqueurs, and ingredients; expansive 40+ craft cocktail & martini menu; highly-regarded wine cellar; and 4 craft beer draughts.

Diner Reviews
  • "Disappointing! Veggies way overcooked and too salty. My pork chop was a nice cut of meat and I'd give it a 3 1/2 for flavor. My husband had pasta that was ok on the flavor scale. Bartender recommended fun cocktails and was great about pouring tastes of the wines until we found the right one. Not too many patrons on a Friday night, 4 tables of guests. Chef Mark was out and about but only visiting with a couple of tables, clearly his regulars. It felt like this restaurant needs a revival - and please don't overcook veggies! Outdoor area could be nice but looks unkept including the front entrance. Thought this would be an upscale operation but it failed us. Not sure we will go again."

  • "The food was the best part of our dining experience; presentation was great and preparation was to our satisfaction. The host who seated us was polite, friendly, and professional. The service was good, however, the waiter could have been more attentive, as in "where is he?" and it was not very busy for a Saturday evening. What we found to be out of place for this more upscale restaurant was a man going from the kitchen through the restaurant into the bar area to get something to drink. His attire was disheveled and didn't seem clean. After about the third trip we asked a waiter about him and was told he's the dishwasher. Maybe have drink delivery service to him in the kitchen as he doesn't leave a very favorable impression."

  • "Mark's was a diamond in the rough. We lived in Greensboro in the 1990s and new our way around. The food and the service was impecible. Althouhg our server was a college student only on the job for three weeks he was trained very well by the staff. His name is Alex and would recommend him to anyone. Please try Mark's you will not be unhappy. Jack."

  • "Traveling for soccer and always look for small local ecletic places. Marks is it in Greensboro. Nice atmosphere, excellent food and a reasonable wine list. Creme brulee was best ever!"

  • "Very nice place with an interesting menu, excellent wine choices and high quality food and very good service as well - overall exactly the experience we were looking for for a special event dinner with family."

  • "I have been to many upscale restaurants in the area, and Mark's was a wonderful addition to my list. My sweetheart and I went for a romantic meal in preparation for the symphony performance that night. When we walked in, the waitstaff inquired if we were going to the performance, and made sure our meal was served in a timely manner. Our drinks never went empty, and the manager personally spoke with every table. The food was exceptional. Truffle fries, duck, stuffed pork chop, and the decadent chocolate soufle (it takes up to an hour to prepare, but is SO worth it.) Other restaurants would not pay attention to us when I used a coupon, but our waiter took extra care of our table. The ambiance tops it all off. Mark's is fantastic!"

  • "If you're looking for superb flavors, great service and amazing dessert - take a trip to Mark's Restaurant. I decided to take my mom somewhere different for Mother's Day. After searching the web, Mark's popped up. The reviews were solid and I loved the menu. Needless to say, my entire family loved each aspect of the meal. From the Scottish salmon to the flat iron steak, we were very pleased. And to top it off the personalized key lime and blackberry pies were to do for. I will definitely be back and highly recommend it. "

  • "We started off the evening at the bar with martinis and they were great! Mark's has a nice, cozy bar area which we enjoyed! We were not able to sit outside because it was raining, but look forward to doing that sometime soon - great atmosphere outside! The food was very good and the service was excellent. I would have liked to see more "fish" choices on the menu however. I would definitely go back to Mark's, especially for special occasions. "

  • "We have dined at Mark's a few times in the last couple of years and the food is good but not great. The menu is limited but they do have nightly specials. The atmoshpere is a little odd - when you are seated you pass through the first room (which used to be a dining room for the previous restaurant in this buildling) - but now it has this large bar that is dark - so I am not sure how it is used. I think the food could be better with not much effort and the decor/atmosphere liven up a bit and it would rate higher."

  • "Very easy to recommend this place. Excellent food and service. Respectable list of wines by the glass, which is not common. Nice variety on the menu means something for everyone, but not so much that the food quality suffers. Food was great including Salads, Steak and fish. Nice comfortable dining experience hosted by real professionals. Visiting from Canada on business, this was a lucky find. Made us feel like we were on vacation for the evening."

  • "Great food, interesting flavors, nice background music, quiet atmosphere."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "It's a spacious restaurant, yet apart from us, there were just 4 people at another table. That is enough reason for me not to go again. It was lonely, almost spooky! Too bad!"

  • "Mark's was outstanding. I'd go back whenever I am in the area. I didn't done on their outdoor patio but it looked like it would be a nice spot in the right weather."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "Mark's tries to replicate higher end restaurants in larger cities that serve creative dishes. Unfortunately, the execution is poor. Our sever confused class with pretentiousness which left everyone feeling awkward and comfortable. I ordered the ribeye. I understand a ribeye is a different kind of cut than a strip. However, this piece of meat looked and tasted like something you would get at Longhorn Steakhouse."

  • "This is my favorite Triad restaurant. We began dining here when it was Bistro Sofia. When that closed, we were worried but Mark's has been a delight and when it is a special occasion or when we're in the mood for excellent food in a wonderful setting with great service, Mark's is the first establishment on our list. Last week was no exception."

  • "This was our second time dining here. Both times the service seemed a bit garbled, although this time was worse. The food was very good, but we waited over 20 minutes after being seated before anyone visited us, which occurred after we flagged someone down. That is 20+ minutes with no water, bread, drink. Our impression so far is that despite good food, the front of the house struggles. They may be running light on staff to save money, and if so, it shows."

  • "Extremely poor service. Slow drinks/food. When my wife asked about the Tile fish, the server said "I've never had it but the kitchen doesn't smell fishy, so it's probably not a fishy taste." Manager finally brought out a round of drinks and said he would remove from the bill. He did not and we had been there too long to worry with it. Two parties of two near us left before their food came. When a large table next to us complained, the bartender, who was helping with drinks because the server was nowhere to be found, told them "We have a very small kitchen so it takes longer." Finally, the food was luke warm and not good. This is not what we are used to at this restaurant. Not sure we will be back...and I hate losing one of my favorites."

  • "The Maitre'D was slovenly in appearance and arrogant in attitude when greeting customers. The restaurant chooses to use white paper over its white linen tablecloths. I found that my jacket cuffs were continually being caught on the paper and it was distracting. When I mentioned it to the Maitre'D on my way out, I was given a smarmy attitude that left a poor impression. The owner needs to correct this problem."

  • "The food was good but didn't stand out and the service was great but the place really looks dated. You can't help but compare it to MJ's next door. Needs an update."

  • "We had a great meal. Service was excellent. It was noisy and bright."

  • "Marks is a gem in a neighborhood not known for food. The restaurant is unique and has many unique food items. The service is outstanding. I must admit that the prices are a bit steep but depending on the items chosen, the prices are worth the total experience. Check the menu online and try out the unique items not found in regular restaurants."

  • "If you haven't been to Mark's, you should give it a try. The menu has a variety of options and the portion sizes are perfect. The presentation that Mark gives to every plate is nothing short of creative brilliance. Service is wonderful; servers are very knowledgeable. Greensboro is lucky to have a wonderful "non-chain" restaurant such as Mark's."

  • "There were 5 of us dining and everyone enjoyed it tremendously. The service was very good and so was the atmosphere. The only negative thing was that I ordered my tuna rare and it was well done. It had a good flavor, but was too dry for my taste. The server asked if he could take it back and bring me one that was rare, but at that point, I didn't want to hold up everyone else who already had their food."

  • "My fiance and I were looking for a nice place to have a long overdue dinner date, and I'm so glad we chose Mark's. The food was delicious, the staff friendly and very attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxed but sophisticated. The menu is diverse, but not unnecessarily long. It seems that everything they do, they do well and with distinction. My fiance had the scottish salmon, and I had the chicken cacciatore. We shared the vanilla bean creme brulee for dessert, and it was phenomenal. All the food was, but the dessert was especially delicious."

  • "The only downside during my visit was the awful musician playing very loudly his horrible music."
    Dined on 11/23/2013
  • "Mediocre at best. The venison was grisly. The Veal Marsala tasted like a package mix for the sauce. Salad was nice and our server was ok. The meal came before we had finished the salad. While I've always like this setting but a group spoiled our experience until they left. They were loud, boisterous and inebriated. The first bottle of wine we ordered turned out to be the only one so we had to select again for the second bottle. I'm guessing this restaurant won't last."
