  • Catering: We offer 2 private and 1 semi-private areas. Our first private space is for 5 to 8 people in our Alcove Room. Traditionally we do our Chef's Tasting in this room. It is perfect for those small private business dinners or Celebrations. Our Second Private Room is the Cloister Room. It seats 32-40 people and is completely sound proofed when the doors are closed. This is the only area where we allow audio visual presentations. It is a great room for small wedding receptions, and larger business dinner. The Loft is our Semi-private space. It overlooks the Main Dining Room and has a great view.
  • Private Party Facilities: Three rooms are available for private and semi-private functions. The Alcove is an elegant and private room that accommodates 5 to 8 guests; the Loft is an elegant semi-private area with a breathtaking view of the main dining room that accommodates between 18-20 guests; and the Cloisters, a uniquely designed room features high vaulted ceilings in a Gothic setting that accommodates 32 to 40 guests in a totally private setting.

    *Please keep in mind there is no elevator access to either The Alcove or The Loft, and prefixed menus are required for all private parties.

Situated in an old church on lower Westheimer in Houston, Mark Cox, chef and owner of his namesake restaurant, Mark's, has given Houstonians, who have anxiously awaited his debut for years, a thoroughly unique dining experience.

Offering Cox's own brand of American progressive cuisine, Mark's menu encompasses inspirations from many distant lands, indicative of America's true melting pot heritage.   • "I went here for my girlfriend's birthday after seeing great ratings and hearing good things from a coworker. We were sat at the base of the stairwell which felt cramped. The server greeted us but then immediately listed off menu specials as if he was giving a monologue. I asked what he suggested and did not receive a response. The entire experience felt as if we were ignored for most of the evening and the food was not what I expected. They did honor my request for a personalized dessert for my girlfriend's birthday, but the waiter just sat the plate down and left without saying a word. In hindsight, I believe the experience was ruined mostly by the waiter. I wish I remembered his name. I do not think we will be returning in the future."

  • "Had a groupon coupon for three-course fix prix menu at Mark's. Parking was done with valet. The restaurant was previously a Lutheran church built in 1927 and has beautiful high vaulted ceiling. Our waiter present us the prix fix menu which has 4 choices for each category of appetizer, entree and dessert. For appetizer my significant other ordered a trio of some sort of corn based ragout, while I ordered corn chowder with grits. Both were really good. For entree he had chicken while I got pork chops. The portions are very generous and they are both very tasty. Dessert was lemon cake with fruits for him and I had raspberry chocolate cake. The waiter and serving staff were very responsive and helpful. Altogether a great lunch at Mark's!"

For the main course we were a little disappointed. I had the veal special of the night and not much meat on it and the flavors were overpowered by the wood grill taste. My wife had the Salmon and it had a little too much lemon. I am sure I am being over critical, it was good food but at a pricing point of $450 dinner for 2 it did not live up to expectation. Also the wine list did not have enough bottles under $100 (average price seemed to be about 250). Overall glad we went, nice experience but the pricing point vs quality, I am not sure we will be back."

  • "The Dining Experience was exceptional. The restaurant stands out as one of the tops in the Houston Area. Our waiter was up to the task of exemplary service, attention to detail, and light heartedness, the combination of a real professional. ironically, the wine curator did not seem up to the task. We had different lady last visit and she nailed it.. unfortunately, not the nice lady during this visit. Every dish fell between just above good to exceptional. We were satisfied and plan another visit near future. I suggest the Bison, lobster, lamb and the "20 dollar shake"(actual name)....Ironically, the taste of Bison that was shared with me surprised my palate.. I was hesitant to taste such a dish.. but very good... We recommend a visit"

The service was slow (not very efficient in picking up the dishes, for example), and no one raved about what they ordered. It was an expensive lunch and we hoped for more. Could it be it is better in the evening?"

Our waiter was just perfect and he had a back-up waiter who had a back-up waiter and they worked flawlessly as a team. We felt like royalty! The food was average - especially for the price. You can find better food at a much better price in Houston. If you like you food to be presented in a upscale way, then this is your place. We were in the side hallway and every table was occupied yet it was so quiet. Great job on handling the acoustics! It is a very pretty place - loved the wine racks where the organ and chimes used to be."

My only complaint is that we were seated at the table right next to the service entrance which made for a more distracting evening than I would have preferred. Not bad, mind you, but when you show up at a nice restaurant in a suit and tie, and the wife is in a spectacular dress (we were going to the symphony afterwards), I really don't expect to get shuffled off to the doghouse."

  • "For the second visit in a row we were seated in an alcove in a corner with no view of the restaurant. The food is very good but clearly overpriced. My husband's sea Bass was salty. The beautiful interior is the reason we frequent the restaurant ( this is our 5 th visit) but to be seated in a corner with a view of the wall, we could have stayed in Clear Lake, saved money and had better fish. We had a five o'clock reservation due to having theatre tickets. We arrived early ( the first patrons in the restaurant) and left early. The reservation was made several weeks in advance so we feel we should have been seated in the main restaurant or the second level. The service was impeccable but we will not be returning."

  • "My wife and I went to celebrate her birthday. The hostess and waiter both wished happy birthday without being prompted, and they seated us in a side area away from the main diring area. Mario provided excellent service and did a great job of answering questions. We started with the Duo of Foie Gras - the condiments provided a nice blend of flavors. My wife ordered the Lobster Special and I had the Lamb Chop Special. Both were excellent. We finished the night with Sticky Bun Bread Pudding, and they decorated it to wish Happy Birthday. Mario and his assistant also helped us take several photos. It was a great evening."
