  • Catering: We offer 2 private and 1 semi-private areas. Our first private space is for 5 to 8 people in our Alcove Room. Traditionally we do our Chef's Tasting in this room. It is perfect for those small private business dinners or Celebrations. Our Second Private Room is the Cloister Room. It seats 32-40 people and is completely sound proofed when the doors are closed. This is the only area where we allow audio visual presentations. It is a great room for small wedding receptions, and larger business dinner. The Loft is our Semi-private space. It overlooks the Main Dining Room and has a great view.
  • Private Party Facilities: Three rooms are available for private and semi-private functions. The Alcove is an elegant and private room that accommodates 5 to 8 guests; the Loft is an elegant semi-private area with a breathtaking view of the main dining room that accommodates between 18-20 guests; and the Cloisters, a uniquely designed room features high vaulted ceilings in a Gothic setting that accommodates 32 to 40 guests in a totally private setting.

    *Please keep in mind there is no elevator access to either The Alcove or The Loft, and prefixed menus are required for all private parties.

Situated in an old church on lower Westheimer in Houston, Mark Cox, chef and owner of his namesake restaurant, Mark's, has given Houstonians, who have anxiously awaited his debut for years, a thoroughly unique dining experience.

Offering Cox's own brand of American progressive cuisine, Mark's menu encompasses inspirations from many distant lands, indicative of America's true melting pot heritage. You'll find diverse styles of food are not intermingled in one dish, but rather American regional ingredients are fashioned in such a manner as to be reminiscent of a single culture's fare. Whether it's Asian or Italian food you crave, Mark's takes you there and back, with taste sensations which echo the authentic food of that land, coupled with Cox's own unrivaled American touch.

I could have made a meal with just combinations of the appetisers - pasta with truffles was divine, and the seafood sampler was great. The softshell crab was excellent - tasty, not too salty, and not greasy. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Very special dinner!"

  • "We indicated on our reservation that it was a wedding anniversary, yet were know acknowledged by anyone there, nor were we put at a nice table. Instead, we were put in the middle of the dining room next to a large party of 6 that included children. Food was good, but did not feel the price point for each entree was worth it ($54 for lamb and $49 for fish) Draft beer was $9 too, seems a bit outlandish when the restaurant down the street sells it for $4. Mark up not worth the hype."

  • "Came here for an anniversary dinner. I noted in my reservation and to the hostess that it's our first time so I'd like the full experience. I know I can be picky, but we were at a table closest to a kitchen area so the door was CONSTANTLY opening and closing right next to us. High traffic area, that's not my definition of romantic ambiance. Our waiter however, Anthony, was superb! Excellent service, explaining everything we ate down to the bread. I ordered a recommended Asian beef, cooked medium, it was very red but didn't want to send back and very bland to me. I enjoyed the bread with caramelized onions and scalloped potatoes more. Overall the service won over the food, left feeling that the hype about the food was just hype."

Pork chop was the best thing at our table. Got stuffed into a tiny outdated 5 top room upstairs with no ambience. Way better choices elsewhere in Houston for better prices and quality."

His recommendations are right on and being adventurous will not be a disappointment at Mark's. I had a watermelon and mango chilled soup with lump crab for an appetizer and the herb crusted ribeye with shingled potatoes for my main course. Every bite was divine.   • "Excellent food, presentation and quality are equally amazing. Ability to maintain the food quality after all these years are not easy. So many restaurants come and go in Houston. The only draw back is the price. It is high but borderline excessive, especially relative to other restaurants in the area. Hope that won't push away customers and eventually lead to the downfall of the restaurant since it has happened to several restaurants in the Houston area."

Every dish was superb, including the dessert and the service was top notch. One dish that stood out for me was the lobster bisque. I've had many lobster bisques in my life and the flavor of the one at Mark's stood head and shoulders above them all. The only other lobster bisque that is in this same category is the one I enjoyed years ago at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Thank you Mark's for this memorable evening!"

The food is always great, although I'd say that this particular visit the grilled fish (catch of the day lunch entree) was a little under-cooked at the thickest part and, as a result, had a very small bit of a fishy undertone to it.   • "My wife and I went to Mark's for lunch. Normally we've been in the evening and usually for a special occasion which is always great, but lunch was an unexpected surprise. It wasn't crowded or noisy. The food was excellent and so was the service. We tried a new cocktail and the bartender made it extra special for us with a cognac soaked cherry in the glass. The chef was visible periodically in the front of the house and obviously takes pride in his creations. There were several off menu items and the appetizer we ordered was great. I had the duck as an entree - outstanding. My wife had the prix fixe menu which she also enjoyed both the selection and taste of the food. Special attention and atmosphere at lunch made for a great meal!"

  • "Mark's has been our "go-to" restaurant when we visit Houston, but this visit it was disappointing. The ravioli were actually served cold. While the waiter was apologetic and took it off our bill, it was not up to standard. Our main courses (duck, soft shell crab) were "fine," but hardly memorable. And the dessert, which our waiter described as "amazing," was quite pedestrian. We are likely to search for a new home for our visits to Houston."
