Diner Reviews
  • "Everything about the experience said dinner was going to be a let-down... Someone else's glass was still on the table when we were sat, my signature cocktail tasted like the juice from canned peaches, wine glasses had been left on the restroom counter, the waiter would have been more comfortable at an Applebee's, the brussel sprouts appetizer was a pile of frozen veggies and soy sauce. We cut our losses after the appetizer, made a reservation for Eddie Merlot's around the corner (luckily got us in 45 min later), and left to get real food somewhere else. The ribeye special was going to be $54, and at that price you can eat somewhere else that won't disappoint (Eddie Merlot's did not disappoint). Don't waste your time at this place."

  • "Went as a girl's nite out dinner - 7 of us. Service was a bit slow but waiter was very personable - maybe new? Menu was being updated and was good for the number of offerings - something for all taste. The wine list was notable for offering half bottles with a nice selection. We really enjoyed the dinner music - not too loud and very jazzy. We had a very nice evening and will go back!"

  • "Have eaten there before but was disappointed at every level. Our reservation was at 5:30 but more than one of our menu selections was already unavailable. Salad was good but other items were very mediocre."

  • "Great food and ambiance. Edward was our server and was superb. Very attentive and knowledgeable. Entertainment was VoJazz a trio with vocalist, pianist and bassist. Very engaging and talented. Made our dining even more wonderful. Will absolutely come back!"

  • "Visited Marketplace on the recommendation of the family. While it had been a busy night due to a concert at an adjoining theater, and they were out of some menu items, the staff was great at explaining and handling the menu issue. Food was magnificent - from appetizers to dessert. A 3 piece "combo" provided great background music for a truly enjoyable meal. Would definitely go again!"

  • "We went for a late lunch and we started with the Truffle Frites with Sirachi Mayo (could have eaten them all day). We both had the hot sauce marinated Fried Chicken, very delicious with a tasty white balsamic vinaigrette under the chicken mixed with veggies. Brennon, was a our server and took great care of us. Really enjoyed the ambiance too. Although the weather was a bit too cold this time around, we look forward to visiting again for dinner on the patio on our next visit and listening to some music!"

  • "Everything about the restaurant was good: the ambience, waitress, and food. We both enjoyed our entrees: steak (done as requested) and the wonderful ricotta gnocchi. Our waitress was a gem. We went to this restaurant because it was close to our hotel and we were not interested in driving around t own. We made a good decision, even in this city with great restaurant choices."

  • "Had a wonderful evening for Valentines Day, ordered the 20 oz steak. Live music was perfect. Décor is as well. Server was prompt and attentive."

  • "The food was really good and service as well, but the ambience was what really wowed me. The dining area is absolutely beautiful with a central fire pit with a beautiful and exquisite light fixture above it. I've never seen anything like it. Just gorgeous. I will definitely be returning with husband in tow for a romantic evening."

  • "This restaurant is so beautiful but have been here twice and the food was just ok. They always push these short ribs (my husband got them the first time we went for dinner and were too boney/fatty). The sides to the entree always look like they started to run out and just plopped on what was left. Pretty pricey for what u get. They have a jazz band that's very nice and the ambiance is amazing. Wish the food was too. I have been there for lunch and it was very good. But it's so beautiful indoors and out in the evening that I wish the food was better for dinner. Maybe I'll try appetizers and drinks next time."

  • "This place is amazing. I have eaten at every place in downtown Louisville and this restaurant is the best downtown and one of the top 10 in the whole city. Get in and eat here! Beautiful atmosphere and amazing food."

  • "It was a nice little booth, but very close to the front door. Live music was nice, but couldn't see them. Booked as a romantic spot, but I would not classify as such. We are vegetarian so our choices were somewhat limited, we looked online before hand to get a good idea of what was available and had a good idea of what we wanted to order. 2 of the items were not on the menu even though they were online. Said they cut the menu down because of the volume of business expected. We ordered the black bean croquette and the gnocchi. Both dishes had "greens" in the description of the dish, when we rec the food it was lettuce. My spouse is allergic to lettuce. So we had to pick out all the lettuce so she could eat around it. Gnocchi was delicious."

  • "Never before would I have thought that I'd come to a restaurant like Marketplace and order fried chicken...well, this place changed my mind. They marinate it in hot sauce for 2 days, then batter it up and...oh man...it's out of this world. Even on Valentine's Day, the restaurant did a great job keeping the walkways wide, the food hot, and the comfort level high."

  • "My wife and I stumbled upon "Market Place" last summer (we don't get out much); the restaurant was visually pleasing, so we decided to dine there. The food was excellent, service impeccable, and ambience left us wanting to return! We came back for our anniversary, reserving a booth near the live entertainment; everything was as wonderful as we remembered from our first dining experience there. The service was excellent; your staff certainly seem to love what they do as it shows in their dedication to service. The Chef(s) show-off their creativity and pride by preparing some of the best cuisine around. The entertainment was also outstanding, and helped set the stage for a romantic and intimate dining experience. Robert and Mary Wright"

  • "I want to start off by saying the ambience of this restaurant was perfect. From the lit candles on the dinner table to the lady in red singing jazz and playing the Piano. The romantic feeling was beyond perfect. The restaurant is a little on the pricey side which I did not mind at all, but for the portions in the taste of the food I expected more. I feel that when you come to nice places such as The Market Place everything should be 100% not half. I had the short ribs, which were small, black (burnt) and had absolutely no seasoning. My fiancé had the fried chicken, we thought you can’t go wrong with fried chicken, well it was wrong. We paid over twenty dollars for one small chicken breast, which was perfectly fine."

  • "My friend and I we're running late and had missed our reservation by 40 minutes. I called before getting there to see if they would still take us. Having no expectations of getting a table because of our tardiness and them closing the kitchen soon I was surprised to hear he would keep the kitchen open for us. I do appreciate the maitre' d being flexible and keeping the kitchen open otherwise it would have been a damper on the night. I'm an Italian New Yorker so I've had my fair share of gnocchi, with that being said I tried the ricotta gnocchi with caramelized onions, greens in mushroom cream and it was one of the better dishes of gnocchi I've had. Our waitress was on point and did a great job."

  • "We had a fantastic time with a group of 11 at Marketplace. The food was amazing! Nice presentations and cooked perfectly. The service was amazing as well. We will certainly be back and I will urge everyone to get downtown and see what's happening here at night! It was very nice with live music and a busy bar scene. Can't wait until spring when their patio opens! It is huge!"

  • "I took my wife out for a romantic dinner and this restuarant definitely did not disappoint. The server was very help explaining the entrees and the service was both quick and excellent. Ithe seating gave a more private and secluded feeling which was perfect for a romantic couple dining experience."

  • "My wife and I enjoy living in the Louisville are and love the local restaurants. We could not get a table at any of our local favorites so we decided to pick from open table. Marketplace had an opening, was local and on 4th street. The dinning room was nice and the live music was hitting the spot. We decided to do cocktails over wine because of out mood but the list look to compliment what we would enjoy. We had the Brussels sprouts to start and they were ok nothing that really made you excited. The soup of the day was tomato bisque and is was only about a half cup and not very warm. The taste was that you would expect from a can."

  • "We love dining at Marketplace and have spent several date nights here---great for dinner before a show at the Palace or the Brown---and have also enjoyed a Valentine's Day meal here and now a New Year's Eve one. The food is incredible and we love that the menu changes to feature seasonal and local foods. Desserts are heavenly, too. Service is always fantastic--from the host/hostess, to the bartenders, and especially the servers. The live piano and singing is always enjoyable--you truly forget about everything else while you are there."

  • "This is a great restaurant for an intimate meal. It's quiet enough to have a nice conversation without having to shout and is conveniently located for when you have theatre tickets downtown. The food was excellent and the wine menu was fairly extensive. I would definitely go back."

  • "Marketplace is a fantastic place to meet friends, celebrate with family or dine before the show. We arrived at 6pm since we were going to an 8pm show at Center for the Arts. We were concerned we would need to rush through dinner. Our server let us know we could relax and didn't have to pick from a "theater menu". We had an incredible and relaxed meal including truffled fries for an appetizer (they arrived looking like Mt. Everest, we ate the whole thing!). Dinner came and was delicious. I had the filet while everyone else enjoyed the salmon. We finished dinner and made the show with time to spare!"

  • "The food, although on the pricey side was good. However, the wait staff left much to be desired. We were celebrating a birthday which they were informed about in advance and it went completely unnoticed. The the waiter spilled a drink on one of us and he did not even say he was sorry nor did he bother to introduce himself."

  • "We were there early in the evening so not many patrons dining at the same time as us. Service was perfect as everything came out with exceptional timing. All four of us ordered something different and we sampled from each plate. The food presentation was beautiful and was very tasty."

  • "We dined at Marketplace for the 2nd time Saturday. I didn't even know about it until some friends introduced us to it. It is so pretty inside and the atmosphere is so nice. The water, fire, and lighting features are beautiful. And the food is incredible too. I got too full to enjoy any desserts but their display looked great. We plan on having our company holiday party there! We sometimes don't venture downtown but its definitely worth the trip and parking is easy at the Brown Hotel next store."

  • "We are frequent diners at the Marketplace - one of our favorite restaurants in town. This time we stopped by to dine after a busy work day, but still took the time to make a reservation. I was shown to the table while my husband was parking the car. Our server stopped by and filled the water glasses, without any greeting or introduction, and then proceeded to ignore me until my husband showed up. The food was good as always, and we enjoyed the atmosphere, but we felt like our server didn't want us there. I would tell you his name, but he never introduced himself. We'll be hesitant to come back..."

  • "Marketplace is in a great downtown area adjacent to The Louisville Palace theater. Excellent spot to stop in before a show for dinner and/or drinks. Stick to the drinks. I had a great meal the first time I went, but this last weekend all 7 of us struggled. Menu is on the small side but the prices are high. I eat out several times a week. I am willing to pay large prices for a great meal. I won't be dining at Marketplace again because the food is simply not good and the prices are outrageous for what you get. I love the look and feel of the place so please save yourself some trouble and money and stick to drinks before the show."

  • "The Marketplace is a true gem in the Louisville theatre district. It has an ideal location between the historic Louisville Palace and the Brown Theatre. The food, atmosphere and service has always been top rate. Whenever we're out for a show we include the Marketplace on our itinerary. It's definitely a place to experience."
