A word from MarketBar
MarketBar is San Francisco's answer to Grand Central Station but on the water in the restored landmark Ferry Building. The casual menu offers many of the organic ingredients sold in the thrice-weekly farmer's market as well as the shops filling the interior of the building. Full Bar, creative wine list and seasonal market driven menu attracts a cross section of the city's diners to its handsome dining room, comfortable bar and spectacular outdoor sidewalk terrace.

**We do not take reservations for the patio. We seat only complete parties on a first come first serve basis.

  • "Our party of 6 arrived 45 minted ahead of our reservation. We asked if we could be seated early. The host was more than accommodating and seated us exactly where we asked: outside with a perfect view of the water. The server was knowledgable and polite. Our drinks were fantastic as well as our main courses. Our friends from out of town (their first time in San Francisco!) said that we picked the perfect place in the city."

  • "MarketBar was great. Their Heirloom BTL was delicious and my sister got some sort of bacon & cheese which was excellent also. We sat outside and expected ~okay service but we were pleasantly suprised to see the service was great. Wonderful place and we would definately recommend it to our friends & family."

  • "I work in the Financial District and a couple times during the year, we are required to come into the office on a Saturday to perform testing on our systems for business continuity planning. To bribe employees to give up a Saturday, I offer to feed them. Around the FiDi area, there are no decent restaurants open on a weekend. With the Farmers' Markeet on Saturdays, the Ferry Building is the happening place. So I've found that MarketBar provides a wonderful menu and they usually can accomodate us without much wait (it's deceiving, but it has a large number of tables, especially outside). Best of all, they use fresh ingredients, highlighting the seasonal produce. We always come away satisfied with our choices."

  • "You would think a restaurant at the Four Seasons should have a better service and food? Certainly not this one!! We had the lamb which was not at all flavorful and the steak. Very mediocre. The lounge area looks very casual and cool. I'll go back for the lounge but not the restuarant!"

  • "Great outdoor patio for people watching. Lunch is average and it took a long time to get our food, we only had two chicken salads and a panini."

  • "The food was excellent and I was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding service. I ordered Grilled Wild Hawaiian Swordfish on a bed of ratatouille. The flavor was great, but the fish was undercooked in the middle. I asked my waitress if they could please put the fish on the grill for a few minutes. The waitress not only graciously apologize and made sure my fish was cooked to perfection, but she brought me something to snack on while I waited and then the restaurant offered to pay for the meal! At MarketBar They truly go out of their way to make their customers happy."

  • "We went here for lunch while visiting the Ferry Building. We weren't expecting much since the restaurant seemed pretty empty compared to other places nearby. The food we ordered turned out excellent. We had the ravioli and the burger, and both were nicely cooked and flavored. We'd happily return."

  • "We were celebrating our first anniversary on Mother's Day. The experience we had was beyond our expectations! The scallops were perfection and the salmon was accompanied by a delicious sauce. Wonderful wine list. Everything we had was truly delicious & perfectly prepared. Beautiful food presentation as well. All of the staff were courteous. Our waiter, Blue, was absolutely charming & entertaining!!! We thank you for making our celebration so memorable! Highly recommended."

  • "The first approach to our table after waiting 15 minutes for any attention the waiter said "what do you want?". He was dishoveled and rude. Our food took am hour to come out and when it did it was cold. Horrible service. "

  • "Everything was going well until our waiter never came back to take our order. People who sat down after us were getting attention and even got our food before us. No apologies were given for the lack of attention and service. I had suggested this place for a lunch, but never again."

  • "The worst service I have had in a long time. Server was incredibly unfriendly; took so long to take our order that we had to skip appetizers for time's sake. Was not back for another 30-40 minutes. Took empty drink glasses without offering to refill. We all had cocktails -- why would you not ask if we wanted a second cocktail with our dinner? Finally we had to flag her down to get cocktails and she did not deliver them for 20 minutes by which we were done eating. No dessert menus ever delivered, just the check. Meanwhile I was out with colleagues who were in from out of town and she completely ruined our meal and night out. Food was actually okay, but the service ruined it for us. Horrible horrible experience."

  • "Have eaten there twice this past week before heading over to ATT Park for a Giants game. Although crowded, both drinks and food came in a very timely way. Each night the waitperson was excellent (Rafael and Ashley). Although covering a lot of ground both of them took time to answer questions about the menu. The food was excellent. We had day-boat scallops wrapped in prosciutto surrounded by a spicy sauce and they were outstanding with extremely large scallops that were done just right. We also had Ahi tuna (blackened) and it too was excellent. All in all, a great meal and experience. We'll go back."

  • "Even though the MarketBar is in a high-tourist area, it does not have that kind of feel. As a SFO native, I was surprised at the depth of the menu, the reasonable prices, and the relaxed pace of our experience. In short, MarketBar feels more like a restaurant for locals and not a tourist trap. I'll definitely return when I'm near the Ferry Building. "

  • "The fish was very, very good, it was fresh and quite tasty. The only problem they day I was there was it was very warm so it was very busy and the food took a long time to arrive. Once there, it was great. Our waitress apologized for this. I'd go back and try again. Was happy with the food."

  • "This was my first time visiting the Marketbar. Great place if you're not entertaining clients but the service is not up to par for entertaining large account clients. The bartender was arrogant and rude. The service was extremely slow. Believe it or not I had to ask the hostess to find our server at one point. The staff could use a little training. The food appearance was nice however bland. When the salt is passed around the table it's not a good sign. If I'm ever back it would be a burger and fries. That's very hard to mess up."

  • "My sister, son and I met for a quiet delicious lunch where we could talk and enjoy some good food. I had an omlette which was fine, but not exceptional. My sister had the trout which she clearly enjoyed. My son had the deviled eggs with crab. He said it was spicier than he expected but he liked it. They have a great shellfish platter, but no one was in the mood. I can't wait to here again, but I won't order the omlette."

  • "A disappointing lunch with friends visiting town. Cream of asparagus soup was bland and came to the table lukewarm. Uneventful grilled cheese sandwich - where's the cheese? Cesar salad was overdressed, nothing special. Their great location isn't worth paying the price for mediocre food."

  • "I live in San Diego and have always enjoyed having brunch at Marketbar when I visit San Francisco. But my last visit was not up to par with my past visits.food was so-so. I can live with that since it's always been great in my past visits. What I can not live with and what will discourage me from coming back is the service. It took my waiter about 15 mins to serve me coffee and another 30 minutes before he realized my cup was empty and refilled it. Which I actually had to tell him to do. We were only checked on once by him after our food was brought out and I had to remind him 3 times to bring me the check. I hate being that person who has to wave down my waiter."
