We really enjoyed the food, but at the lunch hour the noise was much louder than we considered acceptable. We asked to move to a table in the bar where it was definitely quieter.

Special menu--Asian fixed price dinner--excellent food --could have used an explanation of such when we arrived--also should have had price noted on menu. Dessert course not well paced--one of us still eating main course. Otherwise, delightful visit.

Not properly staffed for pre-theatre traffic though across the street from Keller and the night we visited was NOT opening night for OBT. Much can be forgiven if staff gives any sign of engagement- which they didn't. We cancelled food and drink orders in the interest of making curtain call. Hope they make it but we won't be back.

Although the food was excellent the menu is odd and limited. No oysters half shell, the famous Carafe French Fries, pâté and charcuterie choices all seemingly gone. As this has been our choice for dinner prior to Opera and Ballet, we have season tickets to both, it was overall disappointing going forward. We generally go to eight events, sometimes more per year and spend approximately $100 to $135 per visit. Where is the Duck Confit etc. the chicken platter looks fantastic but huge. Probably could share. As we live on Macadam I suspect we will be stopping at the Hotel for dinner about half of the time from now on unless the Bistro feel returns. We do love what was done with the space but the menu and especially the service are both weak.

  • An Evening at the Ballet

It was a night at the ballet so being directly across the street from Keller auditorium made Market an obvious choice. The complementary valet parking is a definite plus prividing parking for both dinner and show. The wait staff was knowledgable and attentive, the atmosphere animated but not overpowering. The food overall was excellent. My daughter had a house green salad and the hanger steak salad. The greens were fresh and flavorful. Although she ordered the steak medium it was much closer to rare. I had the roasted squash salad and the roasted ling cod; both expertly prepared and extremely flavorful. The presentation was wonderful for both orders.

Went for lunch. Had the chopped salad...what can I say, I'll be back to have it again. It was delicious. My girlfriend had the harvest salad and I'm sorry to say she did not care for it much. However, she did enjoy the pumpkin dessert and did not leave a crumb. Overall, a wonderful place to have lunch.

seriously i felt this restaurant is way overpriced. I like the previous restaurant better -- Carafe. We like the location of this restaurant as it is across from the Keller and we are OBT ticket subscribers. I did like the remodel of the restaurant. It seems to be alot more open and has more space.

Free valet is a pleasant treat although the attendant was very inattentive and allowed me to stand in front of him for a full minute before he looked up. Nice ambiance in the restaurant. Manager came and checked on us while dining. Staff was good, seemed hesitant when describing the dishes. The food we enjoyed was absolutely delicious.

Terrific jewel in downtown Portland..... incredible food, impeccable service, ambiance and quiet. I checked "great for outdoor dining" and don't want to mislead anyone but there is a pretty glass enclosed room (ceiling too) and for now (autumn) the street side is open so it is a bit al freso. Although it's located right across from Keller Auditorium, it's so good that one's dining destination should be the restaurant with or without the theatre. On another note, I am vegan and the chef knocked himself out with fantastic dishes to accommodate me and there of course were dishes on the menu that I was able to order as well. My friend said the fish (not sure which one) dish was exceptionally delicious. 200 Market validates your parking.

  • Pre-performance (Keller) pacing
    PaulandLoryVIP

Pre-performance (Keller) pacing was off badly. We arrived 1 1/2 hours prior to the performance, ordered promptly, enjoyed our first courses within a short period, then waited 30+ minutes for our main courses. That left ~10 minutes to enjoy them, which was much too rushed. Our waiter (who had noted that we were attending a show at Keller) was terrific, apologizing for the kitchen delays and offered us the two glasses of wine we'd enjoyed on the house, a nice gesture. They'll have to do a better job of booking and pacing if Market is to serve the theater crowd. We will definitely return, but on an evening when there isn't a performance.

The food was excellent, homemade breads, pasta and they even make the ricotta in house ( the mission figs with prosciutto on a bed of ricotta was excellent) I would definitely recommend it for anyone going to a show at the Keller. While it's not in the best part of town for a night out if you are not going to a show, it is worth a trip for the food.

My heirloom tomato salad was to die for. My husband didn't love the frisee salad, however. For our main course we split the butter poached prawns, pork belly and cornbread stuffing. The sauce that came with this was delicious, and the pork belly was fork-tender and delicious. Prawns were perfectly cooked. The cornbread stuffing could have used a little more seasoning, but the texture was very nice and it paired well with the rest of the dish. Our friends enjoyed their Bucatini, Salmon and Steak dishes. Dessert was a waffle (delicious) and peach pavlova- the meringue on this tasted burnt, so that was disappointing. Cocktails were delicious and servers were gracious. And you can't beat free valet, especially for a show at Keller!
