A word from Market Street Grill - Cottonwood
In 2000, Gastronomy opened it"s first location outside of downtown Salt Lake City. Located in the southern part of the city, the Market Street Grill and Oyster Bar Cottonwood were Gastronomy's first restaurants built from the ground up. Serving the same delicious fresh seafood and tender steaks that you have come to enjoy at our other Market Street locations, but with stunning views of the Wasatch mountains, our Cottonwood location also features a Fresh Fish Market and spectacular patio dining. Private dining facilities include our Creekside Private Rooms, the Garden Court adjacent to Big Cottonwood Creek, and extraordinary Roof Top Dining.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We expected the entrees to be on the steep side as the Grill is known as a seafood restaurant. As a seafood restaurant, I expected to see more of a variety in the seafood experience. The menu was made up of exactly what I find in a local restaurant that serves seafood. Otherwise, the food was excellent, the service was proper and attentive, reservations were expedient, and the location was close and scenic."

  • "As always a very wonderful evening! One of our most favorite places to take out friends."

  • "i always give this place a stellar review because they deserve it. however, on this latest occasion, we were served by an extremely inexperienced, but very very sweet, female server. she really tried but was just so slow, didn't know the menu and her command of the english language a tad lacking. the food was super as always, but the service diminished our experience, especially since we brought another couple who had never been there before. i assured them this was not the norm. we will continue to return every time we are in SLC."

  • "As usual gastronomy restaurants do a very good job. With presentation and food quality."

  • "Good service, excellent food, a little noisy but 99 cent oysters were the best. Specials are also worth looking at."

  • "I hated to downgrade this restaurant in the service category because we've had good service in the past. However, our last visit was quite different. We waited quite a long time for every request, including the cheque. And before we got our meal, we requested olive oil for the bread, only to have our waitress disappear for 20 min. We couldn't find her anywhere in the restaurant. Very strange."

  • "This Gastronomy restaurant does no longer fit it's former class and reliable excellent food. I am wondering if Mkt. St. has been under new mgmt. Asked for eggs benedict to be undercooked and had to return meal due to eggs hard boiled. Huevous Rancheros were dumped over with sauce and olives-very unappealing. Best item on the table was the coffee...really dark and fresh."

  • "No matter what the season, Market Street Grill offers great halibut . The best in town."

  • "Service was efficient, pleasant & fast, but the latter, while generally a welcome trait, seemed to be based on achieving high Table Turnover, diminishing the enjoyment of the occasion"

  • "The server was attentive and friendly. My guest remarked about the beautiful view from our table. The food is consistently fresh, cooked well and has an appealing presentation. We did not feel rushed and could enjoy this meal and conversation without interruptions."

  • "Nice brunch, a little pricey if you add on salmon or any thing else to the eggs Benny . But nice and bright we enjoyed our brunch ."

  • "I am a seafood industry professional and had others in the industry in town so we went to Market Street. First, they did not have three beers we wanted to order; Yard Sale, Baba and a Hefe, perhaps Golden Spike. Waiter said that Yard Sale (a lager) was similar to Winterfest Ale. I had to tell him how wrong he was. We all ordered fish. It was all dry and overcooked, seemingly siting under heat elements for far too long. I would tell you that if you want better fish, go to Rubio's. This place is awful, overpriced and lousy quality. Extremely disappointing."

  • "As always, great seafood dishes--the other dishes are good, too, but it's the seafood I go for."

  • "Service was great and the seafood was fresh. Great time. Will definitely go back."

  • "I think the overall atmosphere is wonderful. I think when it comes to the food it could be better. The fish is always over cooked! I went over the weekend and had shrimp and scallops They were over cooked and rubbery. I think there needs to be better training on Cooking the fish. When I went a few years ago it was the same way, except it was The lobster over cooked. I thought when a went maybe they would have improved The perpetration and cooking of the food, I was wrong!"

  • "I had the cod and it was tough and flavourless. Very disappointing. Great atmosphere and the chowder is brilliant."

  • "The food quality has gone down. The salads came without the shrimp or avocado. This happens More times then not. I received a diet coke when I ordered coke on a refill. The bread is just about the only thing I can recommend."

  • "My wife and I have come here a couple times because the atmosphere is great. The Cape Cod architecture is beautiful, and we really enjoy the booths. The neon fish detract some, but not too much. The seafood is good. It doesn't knock our socks off necessarily, but we're not actually the biggest seafood aficionados anyway. We really come here because the crème brûlée is amazing (and it helps that a meal of fish is usually light enough to leave room to enjoy it). Even after building it up in our minds for months, the brûlée lived up to our expectations."

  • "The food was excellent but it was a little on the dim side for me. I also felt the prices were too high. I would eat there on special occasions only because of the prices."

  • "I have visited this restaurant once or thrice every year since it was built, roughly ten years ago. Plus, we buy from the market for eating at home more often. I've never had a meal that wasn't excellent in preparation and presentation. The staff on average is superior, helpful with recommendations and service. Some caveats, however, are worth mention and are not necessarily negative. First, if you are looking for a quiet conversation, hushed tones are typically inaudible when the restaurant is full, which is always at peak dinner times. They take reservations usualy only for special days, eg. Valentines Day. I've always waited for a table, often more than twenty minutes and in a very noisy room that could benefit from sound dampening."

  • "I have been here many times and never a disappointment. The staff is always friendly and helpful, the food taste so good the best fish and chips I have had in Utah so far. This place is great for any occasion and is kid friendly.."

  • "Didn't have much for dessert. Ice cream or cake. The cake was good but not fresh. The Caesar salad wasn't very tasty, very plain. The oysters were wonderful and the crab cakes don't get better than those we had."

  • "An anniversary reservation at the Cottonwood location surprised my husband. We were first time visitors and everything had us impressed. The ambience and food were fantastic. The only complaint was the waitress seemed distracted and not very personable. Despite the full service, we will definately be coming back."

  • "We love the crab fest each January or February. Several of my family as well as myself and wife have been making this an annual event every year for the past 6 years. We, my wife and I, also go to Market Street Grill at other times. The food has always been great, however we cannot aford Crab Fest only once a year. Thank you for providing a wonderful experience and great food."

  • "The food and the service were much better than we have had up there in the last two years. Our server was attentive and well versed, and the food was actually a plate full. We have had large groups down to two of us going there since you opened, but both food and service had suffered. We were pleased to see it had improved dramatically"

  • "Took a friend there on a Sunday morning and the people were very friendly, the service was good and I really like the ambiance of the restaurant . However, the food was only so, so. My egg dish was undercooked and the breakfast burrito dish my husband had was swimming in liquid black bean juice, looked awful and tasted only marginally better."

  • "The only thing I will complain about is when they come to offer juices when the server first greets you they don't ask what size you want, we ended up getting charged for two smalls which is more money than just getting 1 large each. This was frustrating. Other than that it was a good experience"

  • "Husband ordered the Halibut Oscar style. It was inedible. I had a filet and crab which was pretty good. Not to mention we waited 20 minutes between courses with no apology. Manager removed the entree from our bill and comped us a dessert. So he handled it right, although he didn't even know the name of his own server. We are from the coast and it could just be Utahans don't know that it's possible to over cook fish. We had been given a gift card from a friend that paid for most of the bill so it hurt a lot less. We will not be back."

  • "wow, what a great experience. The food was incredible, wait staff was the bestI've ever experienced. Friendly, answered questions, promptly took away used dishes. Manager offered bierthday desserts for the two birthday people. I will definitely return."

  • "We celebrated an anniversary here because we can count on good service, great food. The chefs (Anthony) knows how to cook a piece of fish, which is not as easy as one might assume."

  • "Thanks to Open Table got seated quickly... The reason disappointing is that our waiter was way off. First to start us out, Food delivery, like brought chowder with no spoon, I had to send back our dinners as they came just as we got our Salad and Chowder, we then had a long wait to get our dinners, then a long wait to get billed, I could go on. My wife commented, he talks like he is not new, but, his actions prove otherwise."

  • "My family of 4 ate here on New Years Eve. All of the food we ordered was good EXCEPT our main entrées. My husband's crab cake entrée was flavorless, very bland. I got the shrimp & scallops in lemon butter. The shrimp were way over cooked, they were super firm & chewy, the scallops were just tasteless (only one was whole, the others were broken up into little pieces), & the "lemon butter" tasted like a ladle of pasta water with some parsley sprinkled in it. It was really bad. $50 for 2 entress, down the drain. The Oysters Rockefeller app we had was great (as all their apps typically are). Our server Deseree was wonderful. Very attentive & friendly. It was EXTREMEMLY busy & she was on point the entire two hours we were there."
