  • "I was very impressed with the creative appetizers and entrees with unique flavor combinations that were delicious and totally new to me. Small complimentary appetizers sent from the chef from time to time are an excellent touch! The service was excellent, and not too intrusive as it often is in fancier restaurants. My only negative is that the tables for two are all lined up right next to each other, which means you are likely to have another couple right next to you while dining, which I always find awkward. We were lucky and had nobody at the tables next to us."

  • "I used to think Market was a special occasion only restaurant. Last week was my fourth or fifth visit in the last few months. The service and food are always five star. Great cocktails too. Try the Spicy Don. Now my goal is to work my way through the ever changing menu. So----what was great the last time? Duck pate outstanding; Ahi tuna with an Asian slaw----hard to share with husband but did allow one forkful. Fellow diners devoured their Maytag blue soufflé, tempura shrimp and smoked trout appetizers. No they didn't offer to share. Equally un-sharable were the beef two ways, duck two ways and filet. Great all around and I'll be back next week to celebrate a special occasion!"

  • "In old Del Mar you have the race track and you have The Market restaurant. Both are winners! Located across from the Polo Fields on Via de la Valle, The Market serves as a neighborhood restaurant and a real gem for sophisticated diners who enjoy a great meal and a relaxing bar atmosphere. While The Market is a bit pricey, it's well worth the dining experience. /We enjoyed their fabulous lobster bisque and spring onion soup along with two entrees, duck and veal loin. Both were cooked to perfection. I've been eating at many of the old stand-by restaurants in Del Mar for years and sorry I missed The Market until recently. I'll definitely be back! Valet parking is complimentary."

  • "I have had skirt steak just enough times to give up on it, until I reluctantly tried the skirt steak + short ribs. Short ribs came recommended and they definitely met the expectations. Skirt steak however, took me by surprise. They had a nice crust on the outside and were oh so juicy inside. I have tasted 18 different items, including appetizers/entrees/desserts and they all have exceeded the expectations. It is on our repeat list, which is pretty short so far."

  • "I had a shrimp and sesame seed crusted halibut. It was the best halibut I have ever tasted. I shared a malted vanilla ice cream- butterscotch pudding and chocolate lava cake small bites dessert. It was excellent. The ice cream was stellar."

  • "This was our first time dining and after having dinner at Addison the night before we were truly amazed. This chef is terrific and everything we tried was wonderful. After getting great help from our waitress and letting her know about food allergies, we went for it and had a terrific meal. Could not help to notice the restaurant was almost completely full by 6:30pm and totally full by 7pm. Very loyal clientele who seems to know what the best in town is! Great service as well. Will definitely return when in Del Mar again."

  • "Market is our favorite restaurant in all of San Diego. It is consistently the best food and service out there. We have been here several times and have not once been even slightly disappointed. Every item that lands at the table is fresh, distinctly flavored, beautifully presented and just a burst of flavor in your mouth. Our favorites are the short ribs, duck confit, lamb, halibut, beet salad, mushroom tart, amberjack stack...everything is outstanding!"

  • "Second time to The Market and it was just as great as we remembered it. I had the lamb chops and they were done to perfection. My husband had the special which was steak and ribs. He enjoyed but said he probably would order differently next time. Was a very nice time."

  • "Food was simply terrific. Service meant well and was very pleasant but it was a hour before the main meal arrived on a Saturday night with 7:30 pm reservations. I will go back but maybe with an earlier time or a different night. Kitchen could not keep up demand, it seemed. We have been there several times before this occasion and for some reason this was particularly poor."

  • "We went there as a result of the opentable reviews. This restaurant was outstanding. Excellent selection of wines. My wife had the mushroom tartlet first and the shortribs. Both excellent, the shortribs so tender they were falling apart. I had the Maytag blue cheese souffle and the yellowtail. both outstanding. Very intimate and low noise level. The server knew all of the dishes and was attentive. We will be back on our next trip out to Del Mar,"

  • "The reviews that I read before dining at Market were spot on. Wonderful, unique, delicious food! Questionable ambience. The restaurant is smaller than it appears from the outside is basically one large rectangle. The ceilings are low and it is pretty crammed with tables. That being said, I would come back in a heartbeat because this chef really knows his stuff! The incredients he chooses, the way he seasons each dish and the presentation of it all had our party of 3 very happy and satisfied. The food is what we came for and it was just perfection!"

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday and had an amazing time! We had not been since November and our visit was way overdue. The staff were very accommodating and seemed to enjoy celebrating the occasion with us. We ordered a Chino farms salad made with the freshest ingredients. The vegetables are the best you will ever eat, from the local Chino farms. Next we ordered a smoke salmon starter with cornmeal blinis - to die for! For entrees, my husband ordered the beef tenderloin which was amazing and cooked to perfection. I ordered the short ribs which melted in my mouth. Our dinners paired perfectly with the Sommelier suggestion. If you are looking for amazing food and amazing service then there is no better place to go."

  • "The fish dishes were over spiced with hot peppers. Too much kills your taste buds. The hake and yellow tail were both hot as were the side dishes with them. The fish was great but---- That does not make them desirable. When we reported this casually to our waitress, we did not get any further attention including asking for more water to put out the fire. The salads are very interesting and generally good. Prices are high."

  • "The food is always good at Market Restaurant and so is the service. The big drawback for me is the seating. I just don't like the single "wrap around" bench seat along the walls with the tables coming off from it. There is a feeling of intrusion from the diners at the next table, as the tables are just too close. The seating is just terrible... I have never liked it and this is what keeps us from going there more often."

Those who go there should try to make reservations a few days in advance, if they want to be assured of dining when and where they wish. My only complaint after many fine dining experiences there is that, despite recent remodeling, the men's restroom is too small, doesn't have the single toilet and the single urinal separated by a stall, with implications for those who wish to use those facilities that can be not only uncomfortable, but embarrassing. Also, those using it are forced to use an entryway in and out of a dining area of the bar to enter and exit."

  • "Had a birthday dinner here and the food is amazing! It doesn't get any better. Every course was a beautiful presentation, and tasted as good as it looks! We had a Blue-cheese souffle for appetizer that was light and fluffy, flavors blended just right. We split the lobster and short rib entrees which just melt in your mouth. With every course it continues to impress! Service is impeccable, we were always well-cared for but not over bearing. Can't wait to go back!"
