From the moment we drove up to the restaurant, we were happily surprised with their complimentary valet, opening the door and the works, and very courteous as well! The girls at reception gave us a genuinely warm welcome. Our server Christina, graciously checked on us to make sure the food was prepared to our liking, including explaining the wine pairings and answering my endless questions about the menu. I like how she made conversation with us about our meal without overstaying so we can actually enjoy it. And she also has very good timing about when to show up at our table to have one minute chit chats with us. Amazing experience! Now, Market will be our go to spot for anniversaries and birthdays!!

loved the food, party in your mouth flavors and ambiance was nice, not noisy like some places these days, the bar is nice too with added bar menu items for a more casual experience, the wine prices are a bit on the high side, but otherwise we really enjoyed it, heard the chef has a cookbook coming out, yum!

I just recently started eating meat and fish again and forgot what I was missing with the inventive, simple yet elaborate, fresh food that comes out plate after plate. Although, there are some great veggie options, I like to experience the full show! Hands down my favorite restaurant in San Diego in the Food category and Overall!

We had friends highly recommend this restaurant and maybe we had overly high expectations. We thought it was good but not extraordinary. Presentation of the dishes was very nice but I have had better food. The tapioca dessert was the best I have ever had!!!

Everything was fantastic. It was wonderful to have such fresh food. My only issue is that they were sooo busy that we were always in the way as we stood near the bar. I can't call that a complaint though since being busy is an excellent sign and now we understand. Highly recommend!

Food was wonderful but 90 minutes after ordering the waiter told us our order would be up soon. The wait time was ridiculous. Someone from management offered us a free glass of wine because of the wait and we got the impression she had done this many times.

The Market continues to deliver truly exceptional food coupled with superlative service. Went with the wine pairing option which was spot on. No matter how often I dine here there is always something, no many things, that blow my tastebuds away. Can't wait until my next meal with them as my mouth is watering simply writing this review.

Birthday celebration was our first time to visit the restaurant. Impressed by friendly staff as we arrived, and of course by the food that followed. remember especially the ahi tartare appetizer, maytag blue cheese souffle starter, burrata and tomatoes, and seared mahi-mahi entre--all food was excellent, and martinis were prepared as ordered with blue cheese olives. Evening was definitely enhanced by our server and her suggestions and attention.

Outstanding food! It was beautifully presented. Creative hors d'oeuvres with tasty herbs. Delicious deserts. I had sole and crab. The sorbet over bits of mango was absolutely delicious. Top of the line wait staff, friendly, efficient, and pleasant. I was here once before, and told my friends, and they wanted to come, so we did. They loved it too. I have never had a better meal than this one.

Had a business dinner with a colleague. Made the reservation on Open table, very easy. The wait staff was great, very attentive, but didn't hover. Food was delicious. The wine by the glass selection was pretty limited, that's the only improvement I think they could make. This is definitely a repeater, and I will be back.

James W. Baird gave this place a good review. Why? Have no idea. Being born in SF and from SF, my wife and I were disappointed. The plating was only OK and what was on the plate actually made no sense from its looks to: "what are those sides doing with this"? We are foodies in every place we travel (US and abroad). Given the hundreds of restaurants in San Diego (over the last 2 years) we visited, we cannot find descent food. Basically, we have one good Sushi place we found. Glad to be moving back to SF in 60 days. Our business in San Diego has concluded and, thankfully, dining here is over, too. Finally, since we dined on a Sunday evening, perhaps the "so-called" decorated Chef was not working. If he was there, Mr. Baird is crazy.

We had heard this was a good spot to try while in Del Mar, and it was quite a treat. Staff were all very pleasant, and as helpful as we needed them to be. The menu had a nice array of choices, and everything we ate was delicious. The room is sort of big so not the most romantic spot if that's what you're looking for. But overall it was a great evening.

This was my first time dining at Market Del Mar since its remodel earlier this year. It looks amazing! Finally, this restaurant looks as good as its food tastes. Market is a great spot for special dinner - the staff is extraordinary and the food is delicious. We tried the tempura crab appetizer, ahi tartare appetizer, fig and prosciutto appetizer and various seafood entrees. We finished with the S'mores bar and blueberry tart. Everyone raved about their meal and left very happy. Market is also currently hosting a tasting menu where you can try four courses for $68 per person, but the entire table must participate. Overall, this is a great restaurant with an incredibly talented chef -- I highly recommend Market.

This restaurant never fails to impress. The complex mix of taste, texture, and color in addition to high quality ingredients combine to create excellent appetizers and main courses. The Chef usually has 3-5 small side dishes that accompany the main course. The BLT salad comes with a small and amazingly delicious 1/4 grilled cheese sandwich, thick pork belly slices, with lettuce, heirloom tomatoes, and nice creamy dressing. It is a salad course that could take the place of a main course. The Chef's Amuse Bouche is different every night, and always a dreamy combination of bursting flavors. I think this is the best restaurant in San Diego, and the prices are reasonable.

After going to this restaurant for several years, finally had a less than excellent expierience. Nothing terrible just not quite as top notch as usual. Waitress was less than attentive. Food took longer than usual to be served. Attitude of server was somewhat rude. I had brought a bottle from my wine collection as I have done countless times in the past but she asked " are you sure we don't have this wine on our list" before she opened it. Never had that happen before. This restaurant is too good but it seems even the best can have an off night.

We had the beet and citrus salad, everything in it tasted like it had just been picked. Prime tenderloin was cooked right for both and sliced before serving, the sauce with mushrooms etc. had added to the taste really great taste! For dessert we had ice cream and the tapioca with honeydew ice cream in the center, both really good.

My husband and I were on the Stars and Stripes sailing trip and met a local who was a chef and she and her father suggested this restaurant in Del Mar. The best blue cheese souffle dish ever! The soft crab tempura, the BLT salad, the short ribs, the lobster - off the charts great. Also found new great summer drink - cucumber/gin martini type drink and I don't like or drink gin - fabulous! Also the wine and the wait staff were off the charts! A perfect evening and a true find.

First of all, amazing service. 5 stars to the wait staff. Food was mediocre. For example, I ordered a steak that had a twice baked truffled potato with bacon and Gouda cheese and cream fresh. Sounds amazing, right? I had the stek cooked "as the chef recommends". The steak wasn't very good and the potato was so meh that I didn't finish! A truffled, twice baked potato! Boring! I was shocked! How does anyone ruin that! This place seems to be all hype and no substance. I was very disappointed. Drinks were uninspired also. I have no idea why Zagats have this place a 27 for food. My wife wasn't very fond of her dinner either. We left without dessert, afraid they would ruin that too.

We were very impressed by this special spot. Service was attentive, not obtrusive. The blue cheese soufflé was excellent, as was the tomato soup. Our order was a bit delayed, and they brought a complimentary salad of avocado and grapefruit which was also very good. We had the duo of short rib and tri tip which was excellent. We also had the filet which was outstanding. No room for dessert, but the cappuccino was creamy, smokey and delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant.

For 2-3 days every August we stay in Del Mar to watch the ponies run. During our stay we always have dinner 1 night at the 'Market Restaurant and Bar'. This restaurant is a must for all "foodies". The Chef/Proprietor commands a well run, efficient, consistent and creative kitchen and staff. The talented staff includes a Chef de Cuisine, an Exec. Sous Chef, 2 Sous Chefs and a Pastry Chef. During this visit, our food selections were only from the Appetizer/Starter section of the menu and we were more than pleased with our choices. Our dinner started with an excellent Poached Shrimp Amuse Bouche and ended with the Salted Caramels that are made in house. Our dining experience was elevated due to the excellent attention by our server Jason R.
