I started with the crab cake. It looked small upon arrival, but when it bit in I was impressed as it was all crab meat and very little filler..worth the price. I then had the white fish and it was cooked to prefection. My husband had the amedei salad and he said it was the best salad ever. He had the salmon for dinner and loved it.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA gem in the middle of Lake Forest! We enjoyed great salmon and duck that should please any diner. I had had a previous experience with this place when they did not honor another birthday. I expressed this after I made the reservation and they certainly made up for the time they forgot the birthday. My sister in law was quite pleased and could not figure out why everyone was wishing her a happy birthday! Thank you to the person who made this possible.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMNew ownership, new interiors,New ownership, new interiors, menu and ambiance, make this a spot for a wonderful relaxed dining experience. We recently moved to Lake Forest from Portland, Oregon and were delighted to find this gem. We highly recommend it!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMClubby and ComfortableMy father and I and a friend enjoyed a delightful lunch at the Market House. We sat in the main dining room, in a banquette with a full view of the room. We all ordered different things and each item was delicious. We had fish tacos, whitefish a salad and a crab cake. all were hot, nicely plated and tasty.
I personally don't like the trend of the gigantic plate/bowl thing that most food comes in these days. It is unwieldy and pretentious and is hard to fit on the table. I would much prefer a dinner plate, and especially a cup for soup, but that is a minor thing.
The new look of the Market House is crisp and clubby. Beautiful panelling gives the room a warm, rich feeling. The new owners have taken the old Southgate well in hand.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDecent ambiance, fairly quiet,Decent ambiance, fairly quiet, not a kid place. This is a place for adults. Typically mid to senior age range. Can be pricey. A good specialty is salads featuring fresh vegetables from the, Amedei Mercatino.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dining experienceWe had another great evening at Market House. The white fish with the caramelized cauliflower was so good! Can't wait for summer and outdoor dining!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat serviceOur party of 4 had lunch. We were immediately seated and the waiter (Fabian) was very knowledgable about the menu. Two of us had the soup of the day (beef & veg.) which was delicious. The Reuben and pulled pork sandwiches were very good as well. All over a very enjoyable meal. We will certainly return again.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experience inGreat dining experience in a beautiful setting on the Square.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFrom the minute we enteredFrom the minute we entered MH, we were treated with smiles and graciously accommodating staff. Drinks are ample and well-poured. The menu is a delightful and refreshing change from ordinary--I wanted to try everything. This will become a favorite go - to restaurant for anyone who tries it once. What a fabulous experience!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first time joiningThis was my first time joining Market House for Sunday brunch and would highly recommend! I tried to behave, but was unsuccessful as my poached eggs with hangar steak was excellent, but not as excellent as the sublime roasted potatoes. YUM!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMI brought a client and herI brought a client and her hip artist friend from Austin, TX for lunch on Friday and Market House did not disappoint. We devoured our beet salads with gusto, and the mushroom strudel was an excellent new addition. Our server was new, but very attentive. A reliable local gem that works hard to get even better!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a welcome relief to haveWhat a welcome relief to have this restaurant space re-energized last year. I like to come to lunch to visit friends in the suburbs and this is now where I always go.
I have not had a chance to try it for dinner, but all say it is great, especially upstairs where their serve great fish according to my friends.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were seated on time, foodWe were seated on time, food was great as was presentation.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were sitted immediately,We were sitted immediately, the food was great and the wait staff was exceptional.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMDissapointed overall. NiceDissapointed overall. Nice ambiance, although the restaurant is huge and can feel dead if you are seated in the dining room. Service was very prompt and attentive. Food was a dissapointment, bread was stale and all of our entrees were poorly executed.3/7/2013 12:00:00 AMReturn visit which we enjoyed.Return visit which we enjoyed. Plan on going back some time soon too!2/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI love eating at Market House-I love eating at Market House- they always have something that I'm in the mood for. Their dishes are classic yet contemporary and innovative- slightly different than normal. The Ameidei salad is amazing, one of my favorites. Not one dish I don't like. Everything is pretty much made in house which is great. They also have 3 private dining spaces that are great for many different occasions. Not only is the food good, the service is outstanding- the servers and management really know what they're doing. You can easily find a manager or the owners- a lot of times they are the ones greeting you when you walk in! I would totally reccomend this restaurant to everyone I know.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDisappointed, but hope they improveI recommended this restaurant for a celebratory lunch for my team. I was disapointed first in the bruschetta, which we had to put together. This was hard for a group of 6. Last time I had it we had individual pieces. The tomatoes were fresh and tasty but it was hard to assemble and not the best. The toast that they gave us was yummy. The sandwiches were OK. The tomato soup, which Southgate was famous for, was not hot, more on the cold side and not the same ... not as good. Overall, the experience was disappointing. We were excited to try a new place but not sure the group would go back. It also is not cheap! Wish I had better things to say, but hopefully this review will help because I do want them to succeed.1/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
