Market by Jean-Georges RestaurantThe staff made our anniversaryThe staff made our anniversary dinner very special. A definite repeat visit on the horizon.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBest experience in VancouverMarket was recommended by a friend of mine. My wife and I came to celebrate my birthday. I had high expectations, and did not disappoint.
We were seated in a quieter area surrounded by semi-transparent curtains and high ceilings with suspended chandeliers.
We both had the 5-course dinner. Although I am lactose intolerant, the chef was quite accommodating with our needs; he substituted dairy wherever possible. Our server Lucia was very polite and professional.
For dessert, we asked for the Molten cake and chef wrote “Happy Birthday” at the edge of my plate. The Molten cake was oozing with delicious fudge sauce. Best Molten cake I have ever tried.
All in all, it was the best food experience I had in Vancouver.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMA+ Birthday DinnerTook my boyfriend here as a welcome back/birthday dinner and it was absolutely amazing. We sat right against the window (as I earlier requested, and they accommodated) and started with the servers recommendations of drinks and were thoroughly impressed at the start of our meal. The server were very attentive and spaced our meals very well. We ended up doing the 5 course $60 dinner and it was a smashing deal for what we got. Each course only got more progressively detailed and delicious as the meal went onward and my favorite was probably the tuna tartare or the salmon. They wrote happy birthday on my boyfriends dessert as I asked them to do when I made the reservation and everything went perfectly.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMTable d'Hote was not too much foodA friend and I decided to treat ourselves and have the three course brunch. The frisee was not as good as I have had, but in an attempt to do things differently, it was combined with other salad and therefore was neither garlicky nor vinegary enough for my taste. The French toast was just as good as the reviewer I had read said it was. The banana cream pie was to die for. The service was attentive and yet we didn't feel rushed nor overly aware of the staff moving about.
At the end of our visit, the Maitre d' showed us the full extent of what type of functions the facility can accommodate. It is a very flexible and inviting space.
Next, we must come back and have the high tea or a lunch in the street level Xi Shi Lounge, on a weekend.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAMAZING!An incredible experience. The menu offerings make it a very difficult decision, from the appetizers to the mains to the dessert. The Sablefish was a melt in your mouth experience as was the Steelhead. Presentation was very very good. Good wine and cocktail listings. Try the Ginger Margarita if you like ginger, awesome. Service was very attentive, not overbearing and we had many of the staff come by to chat. We felt like valued diners.
We will be back!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMStarted with a frisee saladStarted with a frisee salad which was excellent, and tasted the "signature" shrimp salad which was sublime. My sea bass main course was very good, if not outstanding. I'm not really a dessert person, but the cheesecake was absolutely the best I ever had. Very light.
The waitress was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA Favourite Vancouver RestaurantI have never had a bad meal at The Market and have enjoyed every experience there, which have been many! The beet salad and rice cracker crusted Ahi tuna are absolutely delicious! I order the same thing every time I go there. On the last occasion, my friend's risotto was also superb!
This last time, however, I was a little disappointed in the service. While it is sometimes nice to have quick service, the waiter seemed to rush us, pouring our wine far too quickly. I like to relax over a leisurely meal
Overall, however, the food and ambience at the Market are always wonderful.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice, just also expensive. We really enjoy this restaurant; food different and delicious, service corteous and efficient and ambiance elegant and romantic, all this is really nice, but.......20.00 for a 6oz cup of wine and decaf coffee are just too much, some restaurants really abuse what they charge for Brevages and in the long run you do not feel like going back.1/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
