  • Parking Details: Secured underground Valet parking as well as Impark Self Park is located at 1137 Alberni Street (on the 1100 block of Alberni Street between the Coastal Church and Urban Fare). Follow the Shangri-La sign down the ramp.

    The street level entrance to Market by Jean-Georges is accessible from 1115 Alberni Street. A glass elevator is also available to the left of the restaurant entrance, directly beside the Urban Fare grocery store.

The concept of the “hotel as a home” extends to the restaurant as its casual family kitchen. Inspired by the casual, simple elegance of modern dining, Jean-Georges has created menus that emphasize fresh, locally produced ingredients, served in a sleek and sophisticated setting.


A destination restaurant with four distinct experiences: an intimate second dining room featuring a fireplace, a heated outdoor seasonal Terrace with city views, an enticing Bar and a sophisticated Dining Room. The full menu is available in all areas of the restaurant.

The Outdoor ( Seasonal ) Terrace and Bar are on a first come first served basis.

Regardless, the food quality was fabulous, however would not recommend the Pandan Waffle, but everything else was amazing. Our server was equally exceptional."

  • "I must say it was brunch! My guest and I were seated , in spite of the restaurant being virtually empty, at a table hemmed in on one side a great pillar. Let me start by saying that the service was exemplary! I started with a great soup, chili pea, the smallest portion in the largest bowl possible. My main course was Dungebss Crab Benedict. It was barely warm and tasteless. I will not comment on my guests food because I didn't taste it. Good wine list. The restaurant is in a hotel and has all the hallmarks of such, bland, soulless and needs to excude a passion for something. Thank you for your goodness for the service."

I was excited to find that Vancouver had this restaurant after having visited the New York and Shanghai locations and experiencing the amazing food there. We had the tasting menu which allowed us to try 5 different courses, each equally interesting and delicious."

  • "The Shangri-La hotel in Vancouver is a beautiful hotel. The restaurant is very spacious and there is a good distance away from the other tables. It was a very sunny day so there was a lot of natural light coming into the restaurant. Service was excellent and attentive, although the food was slow to be brought out. We ordered the halibut and the steelhead. It was nothing spectacular, especially for the price we are paying for. It was a good meal, great for a quick lunch. Overall we had a pleasant time."

  • "We enjoyed the sable fish and halibut, which were both fabulous! We started with a 1/2 bottle of the Louis Roderer Champagne with 1/2 dozen oysters and the tuna tartare, all excellent! It was a little quiet, but we did have an early seating. Our server was excellent as well."

  • "Finally made it out to brunch after friends' recommendation. Ordered the fixed price lunch, with the seared scallop appie, sea bass entree, and the rhubarb torte and basil ice cream for dessert. The appie and sea bass were absolutely delicious, but the dessert stole the show: the basil ice cream was so refreshing! Service was excellent - I downed 4 glasses of water before the first course arrived (had just run a half marathon and was dehydrated), without ever asking for a refill. Service was prompt and uninterruptive, which allowed us to converse with our friends. Will definitely go back and try the Farmer's Market brunch and other menu items."

  • "Used to be one of our favourites and have gone to Market for years. With only three tables seated in the patio for dinner -- service was incredibly uneven. Server disappeared and waited 15 minutes before taking our dinner order. For reference, a couple that sat down at the same time as us already started on their appetizers before our order was taken. At the 20 minute mark, had to ask for some bread. Once ordered, we were told that the tasting menu could only be accessed if both diners were partaking. Sat a few more minutes and decided that the special evening we had planned was not going to be ruined by the restaurant. Discussed briefly with the Maitre'D who graciously offered to cover the wine. "

At the end of the day, we are all customers paying good money ($$$) to visit your restaurant (on a slow night I might add). We deserve to be treated as such.   • "I expected outstanding service and did not get it. When we arrived there was no one who offered to take our coats. My coat spent the evening on the floor as we were in a booth/table with no room to put it anywhere else! The service was very slow at the beginning and improved somewhat as the evening went on. The food was very good but not superb, which is what I was expecting. It was fairly noisy and it was difficult to hear all the conversations going on at our table. It was a family dinner to celebrate our daughter's birthday and we are a family that shares conversations a lot."

  • "After receiving an email from Market, we were excited to give the 'Spice Market' menu a try. All four of us had the $29 3-course tasting menu. Although good, none of us were "wowed" by any of the dishes (found the food at the actual NYC Spice Market amazing, so expectations were somewhat high). We were satisfied with the service and the food in general, but did have one disappointment. Our reservation was for 1pm, and they had already run out of one of the appetizer options (the tuna) - if that's such a popular choice, you would think they would better prepare for that. We were not even the last seating.."

We are undecided if we would go back, kind of doubt it as there are so many other places with as good, if not better, selection of menu items. Not for vegans or vegetarians. There was a gluten free menu that we found out about later when the server meant to give us the dessert menu. She never did come back with the actual dessert menu!"

  • "Wonderful food but lapses in discretion and attention to special requests risked ruining an evening with surprises. Not all items pre-identified on the web menu were available. Gaps in service (like loudly dumping a handful of cutlery into a drawer), failure to explain a course, and others unbecoming of a restaurant of this calibre and reputation. Food mostly wonderful, although one dessert on tasting menu - thai fruit - looked more suitable for a 10-yo birthday party than for adult diners. "

  • "I found the dining room to be a bit too dark and the tables for 2 very close together. I tried the scallops which were very good and the sable fish which was amazing, it melted in my mouth. My daughter had the chicken samosa and she loved them. I will be back the next time I am in Vancouver"

  • "Having been to Spice Market in the Meat Packing district inNCY a few years ago I jumped at the opportunity when I heard that the Head Chef of NYC Spice Market was invited to Market Jean- George for a collaboration! My date and I do not eat land animals, so we opted out of the $68 price fix. We each had 2 glasses of wine, an appy and a main ordered off the a la carte menu. The food was great but I wish there was more emphasis/excitement on how special it was to have Spice Market in the house. Great concept and with more promotion/awareness I think the collaboration series will be amazing and welcomed in Vancouver! Nothing overly notable. Service was fine, atmosphere was a little underwhelming, food was great, value.... Not particularly."

  • "Initially we almost got up and left. We went specifically for the special Spice Market meal. However my wife eats very little so doesn't ever order the 5 course menu. She wanted 2 appis. I wanted the 5 course menu. Then told us we both had to order the 5 course menu or they wouldn't serve it. I complained! A manager arrived and tried to explain why everyone at the table had to have the same. I said, so if I was here solo you wouldn't serve me the 5 course, correct was his reply. I tossed my napkin and got up to leave... they quickly had a change of heart and the meal was fantastic!! I hope they change their policy on that. It almost ruined a lovely evening. And yes, they did have the wine!"

  • "Everyone else loved there meal, 4 of us got the short ribs, mine was half fat which is not what I wanted while everyone else was perfect, my wife ate 3/4 of hers so I ate the rest and it was great. Everyone else would say this was a great experience, but you didn't ask them you asked me, who paid for the meal for 7 guests. You have a really beautiful place with a posh outdoor Vegas ultra lounge feel. This was my second time eating the food, the first was a special pre set meal for something I came for, I was really hoping this time would be a different experience, but now this is 2 bad experiences with the food. I only rated my food as a 1 star, the other 4 adults said it was a 5 star meal they had."

  • "Impeccable service, greeted right away at the concierge with a smile and taken to our table right away. Our server, greeted us with a smile and remembered us from previous times and it was great to have her looking us again(Alesha) .We chose to have the tasting menu which was their special (Spice market) and it was awesome. Each course was presented artistically beautifully and the food was delicious. The dining room was just a humming and I think the majority of them was having the tasting menu and it appears that everybody was enjoying their food. Hats off to the visiting chef Rico and the sous chef Lau, thank you for a lovely dinner and thank you to our server Alesha for making our evening a pleasant evening. We shall be back."

  • "I enjoyed the tasting menu with my wife. The food was fantastic. Aside from the rice side dish to my meat course being a little hard, my experience was excellent. The theme of the evening was "spicy" with cumin and cilantro making their presence known throughout the evening. The flavors were bang on and the temperature of the food (hot) made the dinner very pleasant. Although I paid 65 dollars each for 5 courses, it was worth it. The portions were perfect, as well. I loved the food. A must try..."

  • "Waiter informed us that the whole table had to order the tasting menu, when only two of 4 requested it and one was ordering gluten free! Instead of been recommended a solution, we had to speak to the manager and say that we wanted to split the party over two tables in order to fulfil it! Upon leaving there was no one at the coat check and another hassle to find someone - disappointing evening overall..."

  • "Don't get me wrong…I like to take my time when I dine, but I don't think it's normal that a meal should last over 3 hours. Granted, we were a group of 10, but a restaurant in a hotel should be able to handle large groups. The server was awful. He was absent most of the time, rarely checked in on us, and slow as molasses. We were put in a private room at the far end of the restaurant and assigned ONE server. I think he was either new, incompetent or just very slow. The drinks and courses took SO long to come out, and the dinner just dragged on forever. The ironic thing is that if they were quicker with our drinks, we probably would have ordered more, and they would have made more money. Good food, terrible service."

The Crusted Tuna appetizer was tasty but the presentation was off (served with an overly large portion of the mayonnaise based side sauce). The Roasted Sable fish was not nearly as good as what I have had at other restaurants. My wife was disappointed with her short ribs. The soufflé was dry. Overall the experience was generally disappointing (I have been in the past and have had excellent meals here). Nothing was bad, but nothing was "Wow" either."

I've been to Market previously for brunch and another time for drinks / appies in the bar area but wanted to try dinner so a birthday was the perfect excuse to go. My order was the beef tenderloin - it was delicious, lovely flavours. Dessert was scruptious - we all shared the blueberry cheesecake and molten lava cake. I would definitely come back for another dinner meal."

  • "This was not our first visit to Market, or a Jean-Georges Restaurant (the other being Spice Market in NY). While the two restaurants cater to totally different clientele, and are vastly different menus (and prices), I found our last experience at Market to be a bit of a let down. I would not classify us as foodies, but we do enjoy and appreciate good food. Unfortunately on this occasion, we both walked away feeling underwhelmed by our selections. Perhaps it's personal preference, but having visited both restaurants twice, I would opt for Spice Market."
