Diner Reviews
  • "The halibut and cobia were delicious, as were the rolls. We never get halibut in New Orleans, so it was a real treat! Our waiter, Jeff, was excellent and helped us with all of our questions. Valerie was also helpful when checking our reservations. It really was a special occasion!"

  • "For the third year in a row, I have enjoyed a fabulous birthday meal at Maritania. Everything was "as good as it gets". We shared four appetizers: beet salad; fois gras duo; sweetbreads and pork belly. It was plenty of food for two hungry diners. There are the extra touches - amuse bouches, even a tiny sweet in case you don't have room for dessert. The setting is contemporary, with lovely fish tanks. Our waiter Brad, was very well informed and just attentive enough. Upon completion of the meal he took us into the kitchen area to see the site of the "Chef's table" where small groups of 2 - 6 can enjoy a fabulous dining experience served directly by the chef. Wonderful wine list, too. Come hungry, bring money - but it is worth it!"

  • "It is always good to go to a great restaurant, but I love it even more when the service is over the moon. Our waitress, Janet, knew in detail all the menu items in explicit details, and recommendations were spot on. No doubt the desert was the best we have ever had..."

  • "As a location and for ambiance the MARITANA was perfect. The service was excellent. But I have to give 3 stars to the food. There was much more effort put into the presentation than content. The amuse bouche was delightful. Crab cakes were perfect and a generous portions compared to the beet salad which was very tasty but 4 micro leaves of arugula does not a salad make. Intermezzo was a refreshing sorbet of 3 tangy fruits. The sea bass was a soupy mess. The bean and sausage base did nothing to enhance the delicious fish. Would not order again. The red snapper w quinoa was delicious but a bit dry and could use a squiggle of some sauce. The REVEAL was Devine on all levels. You should go just for this visually amazing dessert. Outstanding!"

  • "Celebrating our 25th with a stay at the Don, admittedly high expectations. I wanted the best restaurant in town, everyone pointed me here. I felt that the place lacked identity. Decor hinted at Key West casual, the prices, menu and the rest of the hotel didn't. The service was good, although I think I was hoping for more formality. Food was well-prepared, but very overpriced. The lobster bisque had, I kid you not, a tablespoon of lobster in it, $12. Entrees were good sized. I found the dessert menu rather uninspired -- two choices with chocolate? Went with the caramel brownie and it was rather bland. I think that for the money, I would have preferred a bit more of an exclusive atmosphere, a bit more formality in the service."

  • "Our meal at Maritana was excellent. The service was impeccable and the dessert ending was just the icing on the cake. I had the hidden apple dessert which appeared as a large Easter Egg which once the ginger maple syrup was poured over it revealed a small apple tart. The outer layer was actually white chocolate. We all ordered fish and it was just the right portion. Would definitely return for another meal."

  • "My daughter lives in Bev. Hills CA and is accustomed to fine dining. We've been vacationing here for 60 years & a meal or two at t the Don is a usual event---a part of the trip. I'm an NRB resident now & we enjoyed the Xmas brunch so decided to come to the Maritana for our daughter's birthday. Our server was AMAZING. Knowledgeable !!!!! Beautiful presentation....in fact, everyone who connected with us in any way was wonderful. you have a great team and we'll definitely return to the Maritana. Thank you for a lovely evening!"

  • "I absolutely loved this place I'm so glad I went. The wine list was great and food was terrific. Both mine and my boyfriend's food was amazing we had the Cobia and the Black Grouper. The ambience is so nice with spacious tables and romantic lighting and the service was very friendly and attentive and definitely added to our experience. It's so expensive but so worth it if you have the money to spend!"

  • "Our meal experience at Maritana was wonderful. The Halibut we both had was sear-roasted perfectly, the sauce and accompaniments also prepared well. It was certainly very pricey for Florida, drinks, even my "house vodka" were expensive, but that was not a surprise. We have eaten at Maritana Grille many times, I think the current chef produced the best meal we've ever had, and we'll be back."

  • "We recently had a wonderful experience at the Maritana in the Don Cesar. Our waiter, Brad, was extremely helpful with making suggestions for us. It was especially helpful since I am a newbie to seafood. I had the seabass and it was absolutely incredible! My husband had the black grouper and it was also good. The staff was extremely friendly and we would definitely go back if in St. Pete again."

  • "Visited Maritana Grille for a birthday celebration. This was our second time visiting this restaurant and it was a high-light meal experience once again. We choose to have the Chef's tasting menu. Every course was excellent and the paired wines were perfect. Maritana is filled with aquariums making for a very relaxing atmosphere and they are just pleasant to watch. Our wait staff was attentive and spot on with presentation of the courses."

  • "We had family from three states meet us in Florida. We had heard this was in the top 10 seafood restaurants in the U.S. While the majority of us enjoyed our seafood entree, the star was the lamb! The service was very friendly. They explained each course and answered all our questions. While it was expensive, we came away with amazing food and amazing memories."

  • "The Don Cesar is such an historic place complete with a setting on the beach. Be sure to arrive early and go to the bar out be the beach for a pre dinner drink and to get sand in your shoes. Dinner in the Maritana is quite good. The prices are about what you would expect at a resort (fairly steep) but the quality compensates for the price. It is a great place to celebrate a special day."

  • "the was great and the wine was also good and moderately priced.total experience was excellent from when we walked in until we left. Our server was excellent, attentive but not there every minute. she also gave a little history of the place which our gueste enjoyed. . the food was excellent and well presented. the wine was also good and moderately priced."

  • "I am sorry to report that my experience with Maritana Grille was disagreeable. A lopsided, pretentious menu offered artful sauces and ambitious sides instead of good, fresh food. The tough Sea Bass was overpowered by its stew. Beets were transparent, accompanied by a tablespoon of cheese. The noise was obnoxious so talking was a chore. The knowledgeable, friendly wait staff were unable to handle multiple diners. I had to ask for bread after waiting 30 minutes as well as a refill. The dessert, the Reveal, exemplifies the problem with this restaurant. It failed because it tried too hard to be clever and ended up cloyingly sweet. The Grille is trading on past glories. It is a supreme waste of time (2 1/4 hours to dine!) and money."

  • "My girlfriend an I were at the Don Cesar for a 3-day getaway and I took her to the Maritana for her birthday dinner. Everything was beyond my expectations, from the courtesy of the waitstaff, to the little extras like a small "amuse-bouche" at the start, the "pallet cleansing" sorbet in between courses, and the perfect timing of when the main entree arrived (I'm not a fan of having my entree brought to me two minutes after my appetizer for example,.. not an issue here). The wine selection was impressive, the food was excellent as was the presentation. Dining there isn't exactly cheap, however I found the prices on par with the level of service and the quality of the dining experience overall. I would highly recommend the Maritana Grille."

  • "We had a terrific evening. The server was fantastic, even though she was taking responsible for a lot of tables. We had a late dinner so after some of the tables cleared out she was very attentive. The food was great and very creative plating. We disappointed that there were only a few table that actually sit next to the aquariums, ours was not one of them even though we booked in advance. Still had a great evening!"

  • "Hands down one of the best meals, with the best service I have ever experienced. Went for my 31st birthday dinner and couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate. The food was super fresh and everything was cooked impeccably. Our waiter was beyond knowledgeable about the menu and super attentive which really made the evening unforgettable. Will be returning when we are in town again!"

  • "The Loews Don Cesar Resort Hotel was such a magical place and the Maritana Grille did not disappoint for fine dining. Our table was next to a huge aquarium where Caesar, the green eel, and his fish friends kept us entertained. We started with a dollop of blue marlin ceviche in blood orange juice, followed by a plate with a selection of warm breads. The spicy mango coconut bisque was just a bit too tart with the kafir lime. The lobster pasta (it had a fancier name that escapes me) was excellent. The hogfish was heavenly. My husband said the cobia also was excellent. For dessert, we enjoyed the chocolate ganache with French press coffee. Our waiter (Jason?) was very knowledgeable about the selections and helpful with his suggestions."

  • "Exceptional Old Fashioned/Manhattan cocktail. Excellent Wahoo appetizer. Perfect scallops entrée. Good grouper entrée... seemed lightly over cooked. Wonderful fluer de sel caramel ice cream/chocolate ganache desert. Perfect table next to Caesar the moray eel and his buddy the stripe rock shrimp. Our server, tho we are unable to recall her name, was terrific... helpful with the menu recommendations and charming. Will def recommend to others!"

  • "Had the Valentine's Day Pre-Fixe dinner for two with wine pairings. Exceptional food, just wish there was more of it. The pear appetizer was excellent, but it literally didn't fill up a teaspoonful. The waygu and stonecrab pairing was also very good. The best thing we had all night was the cauliflower bisque. I can't even begin to explain how excellent it was. A great experience though, and would definitely do it again for a special occasion....not your everyday fare."

  • "We went here for A Valentines Day dinner while on vacation and we absolutely loved it. A bit pricey, but so well worth it. The food pairings were defect and there was a selection for any type of foodie on the menu. Our server was funny, knowledgable, and very attentive. For prime dinner seating, I recommend reservations at least a week in advance."

  • "My dinner at Maritana Grille was one of the best I've had in some time--and I fine dine often and am from New Orleans. The chilled seafood bar appetizer was beautifully presented and as fresh as could be. Both the cobia and scallop entries were superb. We should have known from the amazing amuse bouche that we were in for a treat. Perfectly crafted cocktails and French press coffee rounded out this perfect dining experience. Highly recommended. Wonderful "team" service."

  • "We arrived half an hour early for our reservation. There were open tables and booths. The host told us to come back as a large group had been seated & he didn't want "our order coming out in-between the courses of the large group". First time I've been told to come back. Usually they suggest a drink at the bar (on occasion on the house). After seating, our waiter was very good. Food was tasty & presented with flair - particularly the white chocolate dessert that was formed by covering a balloon with warm chocolate & then deflating the balloon! We did order some gnocchi as a small dish (not on the menu) and they brought it - a special order. But they salted it - we sent it back - our waiter tasted it, agreed & took it off the bill."

The excellent waiter and busboy were knowledgeable and friendly, making sure that everything was taken care of while not being intrusive. Don't change a thing."
