Mariposa (Deer Valley Resort)Too Expensive for Tiny PortionsThis is the second year in a row I have visited The Mariposa as part of a ski trip to Deer Valley. Last year I would have rated the restaurant excellent across the board, but this year their "concept" has changed, and not for the better. Each course is now considered a "taster" where you get a small portion and guests are encouraged to order 3-5 courses per person. They have reduced the portion size dramatically while reducing their prices only marginally. At $15-$26 per course, I would have expected to be full after 3 courses; instead we had to spend $200 just to be satisfied (this included wine.) Overall the quality of the food was excellent but we spend significantly more money than last year to have less food.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBrilliant as always. UniqueBrilliant as always. Unique in Utah as far as I am aware. Would be competitive amongst the best in London UK!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAlthough the food was outstanding,Although the food was outstanding, the prices charged for such small plates was excessive. the wine pairings and tasting was also outstanding.
Multiple place setting changes could have been accomplished with less disruption to the diners.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly, unpretentious serviceFriendly, unpretentious service with 5-star food. From the kitchen made butter sprinkled with pink salt to the lemon-thyme gnocchi, every bite was sublime. Small dish menu allows for many tastes of creative dishes. My date and I shared every dish, doubling our experience. Although the bison tenderloin was delicious, neither of us cared for the foie gras on top. If it had been appropriate, I would have licked the plate clean on the scallop ceviche and the lemon-thyme gnocchi. The seared tuna, when combined in one bite with the salsa and greens was an explosion of flavors. I would definitely go back.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the new small platesLove the new small plates - this why we can have all our favorites.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful meal atWe had a wonderful meal at The Mariposa. Everything was prepared perfectly and the service was superb. My dessert was one of the best I've ever had. It was the passion fruit gateaux de crepe.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious menu and great service.Delicious menu and great service. It took us a minute to understand the menu format - essentially a build-your-own tasting menu, rather than a small-plates for sharing menu - but everything we selected was wonderful, and the suggested wine pairings with each dish were a nice touch. (It was also nice that those pairings were available in smaller 3 oz "tasting" sizes, rather than full 5 oz glasses.) The restaurant is set in a beautiful, intimate room.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
