Diner Reviews
  • " I made reservations for my husband and a couple of his friends for their birthdays and their feedback was that Mariposa was an amazing experience, from food to service to ambience! A must go while in Park City"

  • "The ski season was tapering off at the end of March, but the Mariposa was still busy on a Saturday evening. The small plate offerings were inventive, yet not weird or off-putting. In fact, everything was delicious. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the preparations, the ingredients and the wine. The ambience was elegant, but welcoming, warm and friendly."

  • "Small plates are fine and generally lead to more variety, but the execution was just OK here. Everything was fresh and of good quality, just didn't wow me. Service was very attentive, but sometimes overly so interupting conversation. In their defense, they were mindful and earnest. Good wine list. Very good dessert."

  • "This was one of the best all around dining experiences (food, service, ambiance, etc.) that I have ever had. It was really exceptional. I especially loved the small, tasting menu sized courses which allowed us to explore the menu most fully."

  • "The entrees here are served as "tasting plates," which means, for example, when you order the scallops, you get just one scallop. At first when they told us this I thought that was pretty silly, but as the meal progressed and we were able to try so many things, I loved it more and more. This was very fun and I'm sure we'll be back."

  • "Great good. Very knowledgeable and helpful wait staff. Format is small plates with suggested wise for plates as desired."

  • "My family has dined at the Mariposa probably 15 times in the past 20 years. The Mariposa has been the dining highlight of our family's annual Deer Valley Spring Break Ski trip. They were and are one of the best fine dining restaurants in the state of Utah. However, we were disappointed to see that in the past year or so they have switched from a traditional menu to a tasting menu. The food and service are still excellent but the tasting menu seems to be designed solely to extract a higher cost per person. Normally, a tasting menu has reduced prices to accompany the smaller portions however this is not the case with Mariposa. We preferred the traditional style menu and may look for a new place to try in Park City next year."

  • "Warm welcome upon arrival. Table was perfect, round for six right by fireplace. Excellent wine list ...Pinot Noir from Williamette Valley The small plate menu is very inviting as you have the opportunity to taste several items and not just one large entree. Started with the oysters , some of both..amazing! Next the table had the lobster, the scallops again amazing! Then we tried the gnocchi and tart...and thier were amazing. Last was bison and quail....what a finish to the meal. But then we got the chocolate snowball...wonderful presentation ! The service was exceptional, led by our server Jon... This place is a must!!!"

  • "We were very happy to find Mariposa. The service was impeccable and the small plate food was great. It enabled us to try more of their fabulous dishes. Even the bread and butter was something to eave about. I would definitely recommend it to friends."

  • "A wonderful, creative menu for sharing and individual courses. Food was very fresh and excellently prepared and presented well. The wine pairings were very nice as well. It was nice to be able to have either a 3 oz or 5 oz choice."

  • "All four of us enjoyed our experience. The snow was gently falling. The Mariposa looked like a Swiss chalet. We appreciated the small plates. They gave us an opportunity to try more dishes. We all travel quite a lot and get to enjoy fine restaurants. This dining experience was first rate. Service was perfect. What a lovely evening."

  • "We go out to Deer Valley once a year to enjoy skiing with the family and the adults always try to have one night out. This year was the first time we visited Mariposa and I can tell you we will return. Jon, our waiter, was fantastic and he deserves a shout out. He did a great job on catering to our likes and pairings for wine. The food was amazing, compliments to the chef. And the tapas style menu fit everyone's desires."

  • "Dollar for dollar and flavor for flavor, I will rank Mariposa with Forage and Glitretind as the best restaurants in Salt Lake/Park City. I know that the St Regis, Talisker on Main and others deserve their due, but I remain steadfast in my assertion of superiority for Mariposa."

  • "This restuarant was incredible! Would compete with the finest of the finest anywhere! Service is second to none and the small plates make the whole experience outstanding!"

  • "This has to be one, if not the best, option that should not be missed by the people that really like the ceremony of a great dinning experience. In spite of being expensive I would go back any time."

  • "The braised scallop dish may have been the most fabulous thing I've ever tasted in my entire life. Together with its starch, the bites of scallop gave first, second and third distinct notes of flavor. I've had two-toned experiences before, but never a third nuance."

  • "Excellent service. Food was both comforting and interesting at the same time. A rare combo."

  • "Terrific food and service. Only nit is that we did not know it was small plates only, a menu change from a couple years ago. But a memorable experience and well worth the drive up the mountain."

  • "When we lived in Utah, Mariposa was our go-to restaurant for special occasions. I had my 40th birthday there and several since. When we went in the past, we almost always got the tasting menu, which was paradoxically unsatisfying because there were so many other things on the menu we wanted to try. That problem is now solved. Between the two of us, we tried 10 different dishes, all of which were simply excellent. I'm actually sorry we live so far now from such an excellent place."

  • "Outstanding food. Great presentation. Small portions allow for 4-5 tastings. Would eat there every night if I could afford it."

  • "After our second visit in a month by far the best restaurant in Park City area. The food is of quality I have eaten in the most exclusive restaurants."

  • "some parts of the meal - seared ahi and quail breast were excellent. others were mediocre - the bison, and the arugula and heirloom tomatoes was overdressed and too vinegary. the waiter was unctuous and never seemed to be there when you needed him. At the next table was a very loud woman (who might have been celebrating a little too much) - which really detracted from the atmosphere. the room and setting was lovely. the wine pairing was excellent and the 3 ounce pours were just right for 4 or 5 courses. the meal definitely had high points but too much mediocrity for what I expected."

  • "All good - very pleasant evening - superb food with sensible potion sizes."

  • "I've eaten at The Mariposa several times in the past, and it was outstanding. With the change to "small plate" dining, you have a chance to sample even more outstanding dishes. Very knowledgeable wait-staff."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Mariposa. All of the food was tasty and well-presented, but portions were too small for the prices charged. Service seemed slightly slow, considering it wasn't a busy night at all. A little too much lag time between clearing one course and the arrival of the next. Our red wine was served at a temperature slightly cooler than I like. Overall, we enjoyed our evening, but felt that prices were excessive."

  • "Tasting format is not conducive to a ski town where you're exhausted after a full day. Our server was wonderful about making sure the dinner didn't get too drawn out. If we hadn't said something to him at the beginning about wanting an early night, I think we could have been there for over 3hrs - yuck. Food is tasty but very heavy and a little old fashioned in its style. Food is extremely expensive, but wine list is surprisingly reasonable for the area (and has a great selection)."

  • "Very tasty menu from the beginning. Smaller portions take you through a 5 course dinner easily. Great deserts too."

  • "You wouldn't expect to find a sophisticated charming restaurant in the same lodge you ate a traditional ski lodge lunch in. Upstairs the ambience is upscale ski chalet and the chef has an incredibly deft touch. Its a "small plates" menu -- and the small plates are small, relatively expensive, and delicious. They did a sous-vide chicken dish that was the most tender/flavorful piece of chicken I have had. An osso-busco dish had all of the flavor but less of the "heft" of traditional preparations, Fried green tomatoes, a clever deconstructed mushroom hiding quinoa, and tuna were outstanding as well. Well worth your time."

  • "We ate at the Mariposa while on holiday skiing in Deer Valley. It was some of the best food we have ever had. The four of us tried a range of dishes, most of which were outstanding. Not cheap (about $120 each including wine and tip), but definitely worth it."

  • "I have been eating at the Mariposa for years. It seems they have lost their mojo on cooking. I had to send my chicken back because it was so undercooked. Service is excellent but there are too many other great restaurants to spend your money on ok food."

  • "We have been spending winter vacations in the Park City/Deer Valley area for about 6 years now and the overall package at the Mariposa is the best we've found . We had our full family of 7 which suited perfectly their new offering of small plates . Excellent service , good wine list - just missing the WOW in the food ( which was good ) ."

  • "The restaurant was lovely. SMall and intimate. Superior staff and service. We had a price fix dinner with wine which was paired beautifully. The food was delicious. My only complaint is that the portions were tiny, tiny. Even the main course. For $125 per person, we should have had a little more than three small dishes."
