A word from Mario's

"Even though it is nestled in a gold coast highrise and sounds high style, Mario's Ristorante exudes more warmth than a convention of Italian grandmas. The friendly staff aims to please, and so do the pastas, salads, and boneless chicken vesuvio…"

  • "I have been fortunate to dine at Marios for almost 20 years. From the very beginning Mario and his staff make you feel at home and offer great food and wine at reasonable prices in an atmosphere of a neighborhood gathering spot. My sons now dine there with their spouses. Being the next generation they have been equally impressed and love the place. Try them one nite . You will too!"

  • "My wife and I ate at Mario's last week for the first time and felt like regulars. Mario, the owner, went around to each table greeting each guest and welcoming them to the restaurant. It was like dining with family. We started with one of the small pizzas and then enjoyed our main course of chicken marsala. We highly recommend this neighborhood gem. We will be back many times."

  • "So surprised to find this neighborhood gem to dine at that was highly recommended by a friend. Honestly I would have never know to go there being it is so tucked away. The service was exceptional, the food super yummy, the portions just right, the ambience fun and energetic. Loved that the owner stopped at each table to chat making the experience so personable. I will for sure plan on dining here again!"

  • "Mario's is wonderful and so is Mario - who is always there, working the room and I mean that in a good way. He goes from table to table and recognizes the regulars but he's just as friendly to newcomers. The food and service is always good. I live in the neighborhood and have been going there for 10 years."

  • "I highly recommend Mario's for great food, with excellent service in a friendly neighborhood spot."

  • "We love Mario's. It has the feel of a family-owned restaurant rather than a franchise place that cranks out the same things. Mario was't there this time but he almost always comes by to check to make sure everything is good. My meal this time was extra special. I'm glad they serve a smaller portion or I would pack on a couple of pounds every time I go here. Dave"

  • "The occasion was to celebrate Mario's being our neighbourhood gem for nineteen terrific years. Mario is family and Mario's Table is a second home!"

  • "You can always be assured of a wonderful meal at Mario's. The regular dishes such as Eggplant Parmesan or Chicken Vesuvio are consistently satisfying. Being able to order a small or large portion on some of the chicken dishes is great and leaves room to enjoy an appetizer or salad. All the staff are friendly and helpful. It's great to see Mario actually coming around to tables and thanking people for coming to his restaurant!"

  • "Simply put, all of our dishes were prepared with love and the service was absolutely fantastic. My wife is all Italian and said the sauce was better than her grandmas (don't tell anyone). Thanks Mario's for a fantastic dinner! We will be back!"

  • "Mario's was a delightful, quaint dining experience. The food was good, the service was good and Mario even came to our table before we left to thank you for coming and ask us if we enjoyed the food. That was super appreciated."

  • "This was the first time here and what a surprise. It is a nice, not too crowded place close to N Michigan but far enough from the crowds. Great Eggplant Parmesan, nice marinara sauce, good meat balls. Attentive staff."

  • "I went to Mario's with two of my Italian friends and let me tell you they are tough critics. We all enjoyed the food and the experience so much. The setting is very inviting - nothing off putting about the space. And the fact that Mario himself stopped by our table and greeted us (at least he said he was Mario) made me feel very, very welcome. The food had a very good, authentic (as my friends informed me) Italian taste. The prices were definitely doable. I can see going to Mario's on a lovely summer's evening and then taking a stroll on the lake afterwards. Try it at least once!"

  • "This was our second visit to Mario's and we were very disappointed. We brought friends from out of town who were looking forward to an Italian dinner in Chicago. Needless to say, the service was good, but the food was bland and boring. Sorry, we won't be back."

  • "I live in the neighborhood and Mario's was where we went to dinner the first night in our new home. For years, I have taken family and friends for a good meal and casual atmosphere. But I am sad to say, the last couple of years it has been slipping. First, I gave up ordering what had been my favorite Veal Picatta after it started tasting bland and this last visit the Linguine with white clam sauce tasted like they forgot the garlic! The rest of my family could only say their food was okay and the dishes not as good as they once were. While I will try again because of the neighbor, there are much better options for the price to take friends and family."

  • "My wife and are originally fro Chicago and we miss the familiar neighborhoods we grew up with. We also miss the people. While in Chicago this past month we dined there two times . We came back for more because of the Great food and Great fun with the ever present Mario. His staff really loves him, and so do the guests (one night we found out that our hostess travels from Michigan a few nights a week just to work for him ) . Food is better than most places at this price point also."
