Diner Reviews
  • "This was my first time at Marin and I will definitely be recommending it to friends and family! I had the cauliflower hummus to start and their fired up oven baked pita was perfectly seasoned to perfection. I'd go back for the pita alone! The wine list is extensive and the atmosphere is quite and good for anything from romantic dates to special occasions. I highly recommend the Seasonal Vegetable Plate or the Scallops with Lobster Hash; both great choices for entrees. Don't leave without trying the Tapioca dessert (I'm not a big tapioca person but this is a must have when going to Marin!) Overall a great experience and very satisfying. Highly recommended!"

  • "After delaying our 23rd wedding anniversary celebration, my wife suggested an overnight outing in the city. We both love to watch foodie shows and wanted to find a restaurant known for its excellent food. After a little coaxing I agreed to visit Marin, and am glad I did. The service was pleasant and the food excellent. I normally order a beef dish, but ordered a summer chicken chef's recommendation. The delicious smokiness made it the best chicken dish I have ever eaten at a restaurant. My wife' scallop lobster dish was to her spicy liking. Most excellent food and a fine ambience near the downtown theaters, go visit Marin."

  • "Five of us dined at Marin on a stormy July evening. From the moment I was greeted by the parking valet with his umbrella who escorted me into the restaurant, I knew this would be a special place. We had reservations to eat on the patio, but because of the rain, we were forced to eat inside. It was not a hardship! The restaurant is lovely! We started at the copper bar, and then moved to our table. The appetizers were outstanding ... Especially the veggie spring rolls and the Ahi tuna lettuce wraps. I had salmon for the main course and it was cooked to perfection! Everyone of us enjoyed our delicious meal at Marin. We will be back!!"

  • "I like the patio ambience- it's sheltered from the heat and wind- nice little settings for couples- the food is healthy, tasty, and good proportions ! thanks for a great dining experience. We were celebrating my 60th birthday with friends and you helped make it a wonderful evening"

  • "The restaurant at the Chambers reflects the design style of the hotel, so I found the room open and airy, but also a bit cold. I had all daily specials - a fantastic radish salad, hamachi crudo that is light and refreshing, and a freshwater trout. The food is at a very high level, but not the best in town. There is still the feeling that the restaurant has not quite jelled. It's all very good, but at it's price level, it still lacks a bit of something that the best restaurants do have - it doesn't flow quite as smoothly as it should. That said, it's definitely worth a visit."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner very much. We had the 3-course tasting menu in celebration of the restaurant's anniversary. All three courses were very well-executed, and the wine pairings were nice as well. Service was attentive."

  • "We arrived in MSP later than planned and were worried that we'd be stuck with unhealthy and unexciting room service or takeout food. We were so lucky that Marin was still seating people. Our food was interesting, delicious and healthy, and the service great."

  • "Having lived in Northern California for several years, my Norwegian wife and I found Marin to be true to it's claimed No Cal-Minnesota blend. Her salmon was superb and my scallops with lobster-corn hash were amazing. Our desserts were astoundingly good, especially my coconut tapioca with a basil infusion -- worked incredibly well."

  • "We had a great overall experience. The patio was perfect, food was delicious and our server Tyler was spot on with his wine recommendations. Thanks"

  • "I went to this restaurant with my family; all of us have VERY different palette preferences. Not only could an a) hard core carnivore b) seafood fanatic c) vegetarian d)shoot from the hip diner e) picky eater, all find stuff to eat, we all loved our dishes and were completely satisfied. Wanting more... This is a place you will come back to. The owners support of local ingredients is upstanding, and the nutrition detail on the menu is the key component to being ahead of the curve, because you know that the delicious food you are putting in your mouth is good for you! Extremely friendly staff - very accomodating. And I haven't even mentioned the design, interior and ambiance...."

  • "We have been to Marin twice before and had wonderful service. On Monday service was really off. We were sitting on the patio. It took 20 minutes before a waiter came. We ordered salads, two pizza and bottle of wine. The salads came before the wine, and we did not have silverware. We asked for silverware and that took another 5 minutes (while we stared at salads and waited for wine still). We did get the silverware but then did not get napkins so had to ask for those. The bottle of wine finally came and then the pizzas came but by then we were in a rush to finish because we needed to get to a play."

  • "I really enjoyed the experience, food take a little bit of time to get to the table even though wasn't busy but was worth the wait :)"

  • "Excellent meal and surprisingly reasonable. My wife and I each had a couple of cocktails or glasses of fine. We had several appetizers, nice entrees, and dessert. Our bill before tip was somehow only $119. Given the quality of the food and service, that seemed very reasonable to me. The ahi tuna entree is very good, as us the salmon belly appetizer. But the surprise hit of the night was the oatmeal cookie/mint ice cream sandwich dessert. We will be back!"

  • "I appreciated their commitment to fresh and local food. There was a variety of food available for vegetarians and vegans. Everything we had was delicious - the flatbreads (we tried two - we especially liked the ham and fig one), the roasted Brussels sprouts and pickled mushrooms (yum!) and a lovely salad. The wine and beer list was good, too. The wait staff was attentive and willing to give advice."

  • "Food was both unique and delicious. Service could not have been better (server Marrie), both attentive and knowledgable. Pork tenderloin with sumac cream sauce was different but highly recommended."

  • "Enjoyed the food, wonderful use of Morels, pretty good beer selection. With the proximity to the Orpheum, I am sure we will be back again and again."

  • "We had a business lunch with a party of four. We arrived on time, and there was only one other table inside, so pretty slow. Waitress brought our drinks, but then took forever to take our order. Food was ok. Didn't care for the dressing on the salad with the veggie wrap. Waitress never stopped by to ask how our food was. As we waited for the check to come, she finally came over and asked if we were finished when obviously we were. I've worked in restaurants as a hostess, server, cook and dishwasher, so when I say the service was bad, it was. With the place so empty (2 parties came in after us), service should have been much better."

  • "I dined here with friends before a show. We each selected a starter (soup or salad) and then shared a number of small plates. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. I especially enjoyed the baby kale salad (recommended by our server) and the ham/fig/ blue cheese flatbread."

  • "We sat outside, and the atmosphere was great. The food was pretty good as well. We would go again."

  • "The servers here never seem dismayed to have to assemble a multi-course meal out of salads and side dishes (which is the only way vegetarians can get a full meal here). In fact, they proactively suggest the order in which to present the selected items and seem genuinely enthusiastic in doing so. Wine prices are on the high side (5x retail), and downtown Minneapolis taxes are obscenely high (can you say, "Let's subsidize the sports teams?") but we still support this downtown location for its great food and great service!"

  • "My husband and I had the lamb entrée which was probably some of the best lamb I have ever had. Our server was very professional and helpful as to what we should order."

  • "The food was excellent and the service very attentive. I read reviews complaining about slow service for diners trying to get to a play or concert. Not an issue when we were there--huge, well-trained waitstaff and we had no trouble making our concert. It might seem gimmicky, but I so appreciated the nutritional analysis of each item on the menu. I had a fabulous meal (halibut) without falling off the heart-healthy diet. Be sure to have a salad. We tried two and both were delicious, not overly-dressed. The waiter was a little uninformed about the wine but everything else was perfect."

  • "I eat out a lot, love a good restaurant, this one has had good reviews so I don't know if it was a bad night what. Service was slow, there seemed to be wait staff and then other staff who would bring your food but did not know who ordered what and give each member of the table the wrong dish, and the wrong drinks in our case. The baby iceberg salad, was not baby iceberg, there was very little on it except lettuce. 1/8 of an egg, 1/2 slice bacon and a drizzle of avocado. Ahi tuna was over cooked. Spiced cauliflower humus was regular humus with a couple of pieces of spiced cauliflower. The couple at the next table were having the same issues as us and we bonded during the meal. Management did comp our meal and the couple next to us"

  • "The food was great !! The patio is one of my favorite down town. Our server was friendly, BUT completely forgot a course of our meal. They offered desserts to make up, BUT forgot our whole drink order to go with dessert. My recommendation would be for servers to write things down if they are new..... Again the food/main course was perfectly prepared and delicious !!"

  • "Marin has one of the best patios downtown. It's quiet and elegant, without being overcrowded. The food is absolutely amazing! I find the entire menu to be really flavorful, this place knows how to make a vegetable taste good! Brought some friends here for dinner and we had a great time. Perfect evening!"

  • "Dinner and service was fabulous, the staff made our evening so much fun. They hailed a cab when we were finished so we cold go to Orchestra Hall for the concert. I would return anytime for dinner before a show in the downtown area. It was quiet, lovely and just a great experience."

  • "Gathering for 6 people who enjoy healthy amazing food, excellent wine and atmosphere. Marin was perfect. Not only was every plate was presented beautifully - small plates to entrees and dessert, delicious for all, as well! Service superb- We dined outdoors, enjoyed a light drizzle for about 10-15 minutes. Staff set up umbrellas and kept us updated on weather as well as a table ready indoor if needed. A well deserved 5 stars. "

  • "Marin's patio is one of my favorite -- urban yet secluded and perfect for a summer evening. This was my 3rd time at Marin, and it was a much better experience than the last. I ordered baby iceberg salad, miso tuna lettuce wraps and the duck steamed buns. The salad was good, and the lettuce wraps were amazing! Unfortunately, they were out of the steamed buns, which was disappointing, as I really wanted to try them. But I had the olive/artichoke flatbread instead, which was good. I sat at the outdoor bar and the bartender was very attentive. When it seemed like my food was taking longer than it should, he personally went in and got it for me. Overall, it was a good experience and made up for the poor service I'd received on my last visit."

  • "Marin is a great restaurant for a special occasion with it's extensive wine list and menu with unusual food choices. My son had the salmon and said it was great, my husband had the ahi tuna which was also delicious and I had the roasted vegetables. We shared several appetizers, tuna tar tar and one of their flat breads, the crust is awesome on them. Everything was great! "

  • "This is definitely a solid place, the space itself is large and quite nice. The staff was very helpful and the service was attentive but not overly so. I stopped in for lunch and it was a nice day. My server explained the menu to me well and let me know that the calorie counts were listed below each dish. I ended up ordering the bison burger cooked medium rare and a side of the hash browns. Everything was extremely tasty and I finished every bite. I wish that I had more time in Minneapolis to come back and do dinner but I guess that will have to wait until next time. "

  • "I've dined here twice and found some dishes nice, others average. They state they are very vegetarian friendly, which is true if you only want to eat side dishes, otherwise they are un-creative with their 1 vegetarian entree, which is weird, I think, for a restaurant based on California Cuisine. That, and every time a fish entree comes out to a table, it smells VERY fishy - unappealing. I just don't find the value at this place."

  • "Great outdoor venue on Hennepin Ave., nicely sheltered from the busy street. Server Carl was excellent. Food was pretty good - enjoyed the cauliflower and hummus and the kale salad, but the chicken entrée was disappointing."
