  • "Had a great time at Marin last week. The food was terrific, including a great list of specials not on the menu. The desserts were fantastic, particularly the donuts (cream cheese filling!) and housemade fudge. Though Marin looks like the kind of place that might be a little pretentious, our server Tre was very knowledgeable and very friendly, he was terrific. We had a great experience and are plotting our return visit."

  • "Went to Marin on a Friday night before a show at the State Theater. There were Twins and T'Wolves games that night so lots of walking traffic. We were seated immediately upon our arrival (5:30 reservations) The service was fantastic and the menu was easy to read, specials were well articulated by our waiter. We had a wonderful dinner with minimal interruptions. We can't wait for the outdoor area to open."

  • "This was our second visit to Marin and we loved it the first time and equally well the second. The food is imaginative, well prepared and presented. There are enough choices to satisfy the fussiest of eaters or those put off by food seemingly too imaginative for the regular palate. Our server was attentive and very nice. He had good advice but wasn't pushy or overly opinionated. It does get a bit noisy when the restaurant is full as it was on Saturday night, but it's tolerable at worst. We had a wonderful time and will go back. Marin does not disappoint."

  • "Marin was an unexpected treat. Our evening started with a short wait in the bar known as The Library. It is located downstairs and was only sparsely occupied. It is a great place for before or after drinks. The wine cellar is seen through glass walls. There are lit bookshelves with inviting couches and chairs. It was a perfect spot to grab a cocktail and relax before dinner. The meal was served by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable waiter, Trey. The food was innovative and delicious. Trey suggested the bison chili and it was flavorful with a nice kick. Our fish and pork were cooked to perfection with nice little twists on comfort food. The space occupies what was originally the lobby area. It's been transformed and looks great."

The menu is exquisite, containing original dishes, delightful taste combinations, and liberal usage of flavors, ingredients, spices, and herbs with which most folks are unfamiliar. We experienced a wonderful staff, enjoyed a delicious meal, and learn more of culinary creativity than you can imagine. The wine list is extensive but not especially expensive. There are many options in downtown Minneapolis, but Marin is one of our favorites."

  • "My fiancee and I went here on March 23rd for a nice night out. It was very quiet in the restaurant but it was also a Sunday night. We both enjoyed the restaurant, the food was amazing, wine selection was very nice as well as the tap beer selections! Our waiter was very attentive and informative, always glad to help with menu questions. It is a very nice restaurant attached to a very nice hotel! We stayed at the hotel and wanted to avoid walking outside in the cold to find a place for dinner and this place was great! I had the ribeye with creamed spinach and my fiancee had the salmon with a mustard glaze, both were exceptional meals! We will definitely be going back to Marin!"

  • "The waitstaff have been consistently inattentive when we've eaten at Marin. Kitchen is also slow, so one must allow a LOT of time prior to a theater show if you want to eat here. Food is good and location is convenient, but allow 1-1/2 to 2 hours even for simple glass of wine and appetizer like flatbread."

  • "The Artichoke-Fingerling Hash that came with the Scallops was really, really good. I always worry about ordering Scallops because they are too often over-done.......not at Marin.......not when we were there......they were perfect. My wife had the Pork Tenderloin with Cumin-Carrot, Red Quinoa and Sumac Yogurt and she, a bit of a foodie, called it "outstanding." That is a rare rate from here. Definitely would be back when in town."

  • "If only our waiter had put in our order, we might have eaten dinner. After being there 1 hour 20 min., we had to leave to make theater across the street. The waiter was slow in acknowledging us and taking a drink order; slow coming for our food order. 3 of us ordered a soup, salad, small plate combo for "dinner" and the 4th ordered a regular entree. 3 of us received our soup. Our 5:45 reservation (we were on time for it) should have allowed plenty of time to leisurely eat dinner before our 7:30 event across the street. Instead, we left without dining. The manager did comp each couple with a gift card and didn't charge for our drinks and soup. That was a welcome acknowledgment of a not so satisfying dinner."

  • "I have been there before and had a better experience. On this occasion, we were seated in a table next to the hotel entrance and it was cold and almost out of the restaurant. Our server was overworked (short staff) and a little curt because of it. Food was good."

  • "We had been wanting to experience Marin after enjoying great food at the sister restaurant. We had a great meal and our entire party was happy with the food. I enjoyed the seafood cioppino which was generous in seafood and a had nice flavor. My friends' halibut steak did not disappoint either. The scallops also looked great with the fingering hash. We had Gretchen (?) as our waitress and she was fantastic. She was always available, with great attitude. We ended with fantastic desserts to cap off a great night. One area that I felt could have used a little improvement was with the Korean short ribs. The taste was a bit off and the ribs too thin. A matter of opinion but I'd rather see a beefier rib on the bone."

  • "Walked in to the dining area and it smelled strongly of fish...not the good kind but the fishy pungent kind. So I was concerned that that would permeate the food. I was wrong! The food was delightful. The artisan cheese board was succulent. The wine list was vast and varied but not overwhelmed with options...which I liked. My entree, the Papperdelle, was cooked perfectly and well balanced in flavor. For desert I had the Marin "It's It" and it was divine. Glad I pushed through the fish smell to find this gem of a restaurant. Really enjoyed it."

  • "Carl was excellent, but still catching up on the menu. Brandon is my favorite host in the Cities, an exceptiional and engaging fellow who loves his work. The duck was outstanding. The ambience is what it is, and varies by seat. we had a back booth and there is less energy there than in the open areas, but we only wanted to be the two of us. For that reason, it is romantic in some areas and more lively--and better people watching, in others. Overall, very very good."

The grilled blue prawns were overcooked, and extremely oily, although the side of grilled peppers, and the bed of sauce on which the prawns were served were both good. The cioppino broth was very sweet, rather than a savory tomato, and the seafood in the soup was overcooked. The pork tenderloin tasted oddly dry, even though it was served medium rare. It was as if it had been cooked and then left to sit too long before serving. It was also over salted, dominating the other spices used. The quinoa side dish was terrible, both dry and tasteless. Sorry to give this bad review, as we ate there soon after it opened, and the food quality and prep were then of a higher standard. You lost me this time."

  • "Food and service were fantastic. Food arrived piping hot, and server was passionate about menu items. The decor lends itself to a nice romantic evening. But, one thing is odd: they blare an odd mix of music. It's way too loud (think bar scene at someplace like Crave) which seems out of place. Better would be a pandora station like "Chill" at appropriate restaurant volume. All this being said, would definitely recommend and we will go back - even though its definitely not an inexpensive evening."

The food was excellent. Our server was very patient and knowledgeable of the menu.   • "In a city drowning in great, but repetitive versions of truffle oil and pork belly, here is finally a gourmet alternative. A lot of local restaurants take sourcing seriously, few if any, also offer numerous options that are also great for the health conscious. But just because it's got lots of great ingredients and prints the calories on the menu doesn't mean you have to sacrifice when it comes to taste. Everything that we tried was excellent and well-balanced. Oh, and for those just craving those standards like steak or a rich dessert, they do that too. It is not cheap, but for a splurge, this place is revelation for TC dining! Oh, and the little basement bar surrounded by books rivals most cozy nooks in town for a drink."

We had never been there before, but I took the great recommendation from a close friend. I am so happy I chose Marin. The staff were all professional, warm, friendly and attentive. We both enjoyed the food. And my girlfriend was pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of vegan options. I, not vegan, still had plenty to choose from on their diverse menu. The steak was excellent. I would recommend Marin in a second to friends and family."

  • "We were absolutely enchanted with the flavors on our palettes! We had a Valentine's dinner date before a show across the street at the Orpheum. We used the valet and it couldn't have worked out better! I loved that the food was all locally sourced and organic. I even had a steak because it was grass fed. I thought it would be a lot of chick food, but my husband, the carnivore, was also really pleased. The server was very gracious and accommodating--she had the kitchen make a drink that I requested that was on the menu. She also didn't keep interrupting our romantic dinner at inopportune times or hovering. The only complaint we had was that they seated us too close to the front door and so we kept getting a cold draft when people walked in."

  • "My first experience at Marin was with my brother for a birthday lunch. It was truly excellent. There are so many ways to go with the menu, it was hard to finally decide between salads, small plates, entrees, sandwiches, and side dishes. We finally opted for sandwiches and sides. But it would be fun to go back and try some of the small plates. I liked it so much for lunch that I picked it for a Valentine dinner with my wife. Also an excellent meal. We split a small plate as a starter - tuna tartare. I had duck and my wife had chicken. We also split a side of Brussel sprouts. All the food was delicious. Our server was friendly and reasonably attentive. The ambiance is warm and comfortable. It was a little loud, but not excessively so."
