  • "We were literally the first ones in the restaurant. So apparently Baltimore does brunch late...not at 11am. So it was a bit quiet at first, but near the end of our brunch more people showed up, livening up the atmosphere. The restaurant is super cute and the food was great. I would totally recommend the veggie Eggs Benedict."

  • "We selected Marie Louise for an early Sunday dinner during Baltimore'a restaurant week. We chose from the prix fixe menu. Clams casino, fig salad w/mixed greens, and beef tenderloin. Everything was absolutely delicious. The beef was cooked to perfection and very tender. For dessert we had tiramisu and carrot cake. Excellent meal. We will visit again."

  • "I love this restaurant. This must have been an off night. The service was very slow and the room wasn't even close to full. It took 30 minutes just to get drinks. The salad that I continually order was not its usual, beautiful presentation and the tuna was overcooked chunks, instead of perfectly seared, finely sliced pieces. Things were just thrown into the bowl and the wrong dressing was brought. We will give it another try since it's usually a solid, reliable experience."

  • "Waiter told us on arrival that he'd noted our theater tickets for two hours later (Center Stage). Unfortunately the entire staff appeared to be rushed off its feet. Took forever to get any ordering done and both food & drinks took forever to arrive; the kitchen must have been short-staffed, too, although no one told us that. We'd looked forward to sampling the coffee & desserts but had no time -- we barely got out the door in time to make the curtain, no matter how many times we stressed to the staff that we were on a schedule. The stress basically ruined a celebratory (two birthdays) meal. Also, one diner's Salad Nicoise came without either dressing or olives. "

  • "This was our first time at the restaurant and we were disappointed on all fronts. The service was slow and lacked interest and energy and the food was poorly cooked. The brussel sprouts were essentially raw and the filet mignon was raw in the middle when medium rare was requested. Both were sent back. And as the end of our meal neared our waitress seemed to forget about us even though the restaurant was not full and there were many staff members. In the end I had to get up and ask someone to track her down so we could get our check and leave. We will not return."

  • "We had a 6:30 reservation because we had an event following at 8. Promptly seated but next to the bar with some relatively noisy patrons. Lasagna was excellent and chicken dish was half a chicken so we ate some and took some home. Serving staff was quite good. Only negative was the noisy patrons next to us."

  • "If you are going to the Meyerhoff or the Lyric and don't mind a little walk, this is a great place. Tuesday is steak night, and two of our party had the hangar steak, which they both liked. I had a shrimp appetizer, which I liked a lot, and the chopped endive salad, which had no identifiable problem but just wasn't my cup of tea. I'd get a different salad next time. "

  • "We came for an early dinner before a show at Center Stage. We told our waiter that we were on a time limit and he made good suggestions to help us meet our timetable. We enjoyed the meal, although the vegetarian entre was sort of mushy and lacked flavor, the mussels were good, but the duck was a bit tough. There was enough to eat that we didn't feel we had room for dessert, even though the desserts looked very tempting. It was a nice meal and reasonably priced."

  • "I and my companion had luncheon salads (Mediterranean and Duck Confit) and were delighted with our meal. I have dinner at the Bistro about three times per month. The food is fresh, well prepared and reasonably priced. The staff is welcoming and helpful. And it is quiet enough for enjoyable, effortless communication. It is a gem in the Mt. Vernon area. "

  • "Not a great restaurant, but not ordinary by any means. If you're in the mood for a meal as if you're visiting a provincial bistro... the this is the place. Frog legs are the lightest I've ever tasted, snails in an uncharacteristic demi-glace sauce, and a Beef bourguignon that is truly country thick - then this is your place."

  • "There was only on server for the entire dining room. She was great and did the best she could. On person ordered his burger medium and it cam out very well done. All of the french fries on everyone's dinner were cold. The vegetables on the portabella sandwich were refrigerator cold and the bread on the sandwich was broken in pieces so it was impossible to pick up. The portion of the linguini with clam sauce was very small. Overall, none of the meals were good. The desserts were fabulous however!"

  • "Marie Louise has become one of our pre-theater favorites. The menu is creative, with something for every taste. When our server greeted us, she said a table in the back alcove was set for us, honoring my request for a quiet place to talk with friends who joined us. And she asked us when we needed to leave for the theater so she could pace our service. I ordered the grilled trout, so I was surprised when it arrived in broth. The taste was fine, but I prefer crispy fish. One friend asked if shrimp could be substituted for the mussels. When the server returned, she said that the chef would happily substitute, and the idea was so appealing to him that he was going to add it to the menu as a special."

  • "First, if this is a "French" Bistro they need to get the people in the kitchen a "French" cookbook. A Croque Madame sandwich is NOT made of two pieces of Texas Toast filled with a piece of fried ham and a piece of cheese then topped with a fried egg and covered with a tasteless white paste. If the cook even read the menu description they would have seen how it should be prepared. The Antipasto sandwich was grilled (huh?) and the lettuce and tomato got killed. For dessert we shared a piece of carrot cake that was cold from the refrigerator and dry. Our server was very nice and tried hard but was rushed off his feet. Only 6 tables were occupied during our weekday lunch but it took forever to get our order from the kitchen."

  • "This little French bistro turned out to be a real find. Seated in the adorable dining area in the back, we enjoyed a nice, quiet atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food. The menu was impressive . . . we were expecting only light fare and we were pleasantly surprised with a full menu of mouth-watering choices. The prices were moderate but the food was out of this world. I thought I would skip dessert until I saw the dessert tray. My husband said, "I'll just take one bite of yours," then proceeded to greedily eat 3/4 of the awesome dessert. Even the coffee was great. Will definitely be coming back to this little gem!"

  • "Made a reservation through Open Table which was confirmed but the restaurant did not have our reservation. Not a problem for seating as we were there at 6:00 pm. Food was great but service needs to be upgraded. We had trouble understanding our waiter and food was delivered before the waiter came back to ask if we wanted a glass of wine with dinner. He had a lot of tables so that may be the problem."

  • "Couldn't have been more disappointed....from the freezing cold temperature of the restuarant, service that was non-service to the horrible food that took FOREVER to arrive. (burnt french toast, burnt hamburger, cold toast, cold fries). We were a table of 4...not a party of 16. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived....waiter was an order taker, but couldn't remember to serve butter with the toast, or realize that we weren't eating the food because it was cold or burnt. Coffee is also terrible! Terrble place...stay away!"

  • "Having dined before with a decent experience, we recommended Marie Louise to our party of 8. Only one person was happy with their experience. An hour had passed before we even got bread at the table. Granted, it was restaurant week, but that does not give you permission to run out of your featured entree and then not offer something else similar from the general menu. I had the salad nicoise and the tuna had tendons going through it. Maryland crab soup was good."

  • "We visit Baltimore once a year and have enjoyed Marie Louise Bistro for several years … but not this year. We were not seated until 7:30 for a 7:00 reservation, even though tables appeared to be available. As our visit coincided with Restaurant Week, we decided to choose from the restaurant's special Restaurant Week menu. For each of us, the appetizer and desert were fine, but the entrees were not good. The lamb chops, ordered medium-rare, were well done. They were served on bland, tasteless mashed potatoes with three small, limp asparagus stalks. The duck a l'orange, also ordered medium rare, was rare and had no hint of orange. Overall, very disappointing. With many good restaurants in Baltimore, I'm afraid we will not be back here."

  • "2 tiny pieces of crab meat in the cream of crab soup, I had lamb grilled lamb chops for the entrée which were good but they were served with mashed potatoes over asparagus which seemed to be in a warming oven since the mashed potatoes were stiff on the outside. The restaurant itself could use a little sprucing up including the ladies restroom with the out of order stall and stray painting propped up against a wall."

  • "We showed up on time for a 6:15 pm Saturday reservation. Behind two other groups we waited for the absent hostess. Another staffer working a pastry/coffee counter was too busy to assist. The hostess finally showed up, seating us by reservation time. As we had 8 pm show tickets, we bypassed the prix fixe menu. The waitress never even said hello, just took our orders and left. Her coworkers seemed equally busy but far more gregarious. We got our drinks and then sat there, waiting. Random tables had bread, so we asked a busboy for some, which didn't arrive until we were nearly done with our meal. The food (croque madame and fries, gnocchi) was good. We tried to get dessert, but service was just too slow. Other tables had it far worse."

  • "I reserved a table for four people at 6:15. The hostess never checked for reservations and just kept seating people who said generally that they were supposed to sit at 6:00, and so the tables became overbooked. We were seated just after 6:30, our orders for drinks and food weren't taken until 6:45, we asked about drinks again at 7:05, we had to ask for bread at 7:15, and at 7:30 the food still hadn't arrived and we had to leave. The waitress got haughty with us when we asked politely after the status of our drinks at 7:05. This place is very poorly managed and I have no intentions of returning, though the food looked like it might be decent and the atmosphere was nice. The bread was good. Does that count for the obligatory "Food" rating?"

  • "The food is exceptionally good, even during restaurant week. My friends ordered Bransino and I the Lamp Chops and we all three agreed on the quality of the food. The wine substitution was fine. our only comment was that they did not have enough waitress/ waiter help. That was also true for lunch the previous Tuesday. In both cases I had a early reservation before the crowded times. The wait staff was pleasant and the food was hot."

  • "Haven't been here in a couple of years for dinner. Our party of four choose to go with the 3 portion prix fixe meal. Great decision and at $30/ person a great choice. Waiter was excellent and when I was't sure about a bottle of wine I wanted to try, he went off and opened the bottle for me to try and an alternate wine. For a few bucks in this case the alternate wine was superior of the two wines and helped make the meal even better."

  • "I liked the food a little better the year before, however a large group of 22 was upstairs which caused our lunch plate to be served before we finished our crab soup. The soup was flavorful but the spices used covered up the delicacy of the crab flavor. Our waiter was extremely over worked!"
