  • For a fun night out...

Check out Maria Bonita. The food is very good (the tres leches was OUT OF THIS WORLD!) The enchiladas were excellent, especially the mole and red sauce. A good mole is hard to find, and I thought theirs really worked. The beans and rice are on par with other restaurants, and even though it may be a TEENY bit over-priced, it was still a great experience. Classis "house' margarita was not too great-my only real complaint. I had the Enamorado margarita, which was far pricier but also FAR tastier! Fri, Sat, and Sun eves they have a singer with his guitar who plays around the restaurant, serenading the particular tables. I thought he was absolutely excellent, and added a lot to the fun and ambiance of the restaurant.

I went with a colleague to try out this restaurant. I knew the location because of Mama Mexico. It is not up to par with how Mama Mexico used to be. My friend liked her skirt steak though. The waitress messed up my order. I had better Guacamole from other Mexican restaurants. Overall it was okay, but I wouldn't come again. Unless you like steak... The drinks look good but very strong.

  • So Disappointed!!!!!!!!!

I was very disappointed!!! I took my19 year old daughter here for her birthday. There was 8 of us and the only good thing was the hamburger my son ate, and my chicken breast was just ok. Not even the guacamole was good. We got seated in a very bad spot because every time someone passed by they bumped into my chair. In the end, they did not follow instructions and never brought out a slice a cake with a candle for my daughter. The highlight of the night was watching my 7 years old nephew dance with the guy who was singing with his guitar. We are definitely not going back and it is over priced.

I am not a big fan of the Mexican food generally available in the US as it is too snacky in nature. THe food here was delicious however to my surprise. The guacamole was exquisite , the queso fundido with chorizo enough in and of itslef for a meal. The chipolte shrimp pleasing spicy and the hanger steak with plantains was very good with high quality meat. Good not great margaritas. Great photos of the Mexican film star Maria Felix

Festive, relax Mexican food restaurant serving the standard fare with a wide variety of options and upscale fare like Latin-style steak and lobster. We ordered the flavored margaritas, and they were terrible. They tasted like 7-11 Slurpees with a shot of tequilla. Everything was amazing, though, especially the guacamole (tasted like butter it was so creamy), the poblano pepper-sauce filet mignon and the mole cheese enchiladas. I noticed they also had Alta vista wine by the bottle at a good price, as Alta Vista is definitely a good vineyard from Mendoza (there Alto 2006 is on the list of 1000 wines to try before you die, a list that is supposedly respected). We highly recommend.

Even though we were one of three couples in the entire large restaurant, it took forever for us to get service. The water I requested was not brought out until I received my entree. It took forever to get the check. The staff just seemed generally uninterested in serving us.

Our waiter was inattentive. He never checked up on us, and it was impossible to get his attention even though the restaurant was empty. The food was very good. I had the Enchiladas Mi Bandera dish which offered a sampling of three different enchiladas. Wish we had been able to try the guacamole, but our waiter cancelled our order without letting us know because he brought out our entrees first. On Friday nights, there is a man singing at the top of his lungs with his guitar. It is difficult to have a conversation with anyone at your table. The man never came by our table to sing and was simply wearing a suit jacket not mariachi attire, so it wasn't really a "mariachi" performance, and yet he came over to our table to ask for a tip.

Wanted to try out this place since it changed names and concepts. I was sadly disapointed from the moment I was seatedm, (took 10 minutes to just get some water and a greet). To the $11 guacomele for the table that they only used ONE avocado. The food otherwise was good (after a second attempt of actually making what the menu said about a dish). The worst part was service and management. On multiple ocassions we sat with empty water glasses or chips or even plates and couldnt get anyones attention. I stared at the manager who just stood in the corner the entire night sipping her diet coke. I looked and tried to call her over more than once with just a blank stare. I unfortunately will not be back.

We really wanted to like Maria Bonita b/c we really liked Mama Mexico & we hoped it was a case of same restaurant-different name. Alas, the similarities stop & Mexican food at that address. The food was dull & flavorless. Somewhere there must be a jalapeno or some spices in that kitchen. The service was excessive & it was difficult to have a conversation. Less service would have been preferable & earned a higher service rating. Sorry to say we won't be planning a return visit.

Maria Bonita took over the old Mama Mexico spot, which was a loud, energetic and constantly packed place... and when they opened they didn't have their liquor license yet. Well, they finally do, so I expect Maria Bonita to get livelier soon, but at the moment it's still building up its client base. The special top-shelf margaritas are HUGE and delicious. Food is very tasty, I've been getting it to go for the past couple months, but this is the first time I ever ate in. Service was very good. They do the fresh guacamole to your taste at tableside like Mama's used to and it's just as good.

First trip back to the former Mama Mexico - the staff and food were wonderful as ever, but the new hostesses (who seem to be relatives rather than experienced) need more time at the job to contend with the crowds that still come to this "neighborhood gem" - we went on a Saturday night. It's a great place to gather, again the food is yummy (the menu is shorter than the former incarnation) - but the noise level is HIGH, so we wouldn't recommend this for a romantic evening unless you sit really close to one another. On the other hand, the roving mariachi will sing you a romantic song table-side, or fun song, as you please, so try it! We are looking forward to returning after a few weeks.

The food was quite good. However, they don't have a liquor license yet. And the mariachi band was VERY loud and not very good. Until they get the liquor license, the band plays Thurs-Sat. After that, they will be there every night. I suggest one goes at lunch time or has a delivery. The noise and lack of liquor license made us flee as soon as we could.

1-they did not have a liquor license and did not tell us before or offer any alternative!. 2-they had a mariachi band that played incessantly and only in the area of our table. I could not talk to my companion or hear for the entire dinner! 3-the waiter complained to us of his long workday as he lived far away, making for a sad start to out evening.
