Diner Reviews
  • "Margaux's continues to serve excellent food. One of our party ordered the prix fixe and two of us ordered from the regular menu. We were all pleased with the food and service."

  • "Had a great experience at Margaux's. The food was great and plentiful. The outdoor seating was very nice. The staff was very attentive. Very happy"

  • "This experience was no different. On 4/4/14 my coworkers and I met our director there for a farewell dinner. Most of us ordered the specials they offered. What makes me mad is that what’s online was not on the menu. I had my first experience with fried food; the panko crusted tilapia; it was hard! And cut the top of my mouth! But no worries the other items made up for that. Then the place went quite! When either the chef or line cook had an out burst! He started screaming at the top of his lungs at a waiter.. The entire places just stopped and look at him in shock! How disappointing! No matter what was happening he handled it completely wrong… No one should be yelling at anyone anywhere!!"

  • "My husband and I have been coming here for years, sometimes to celebrate an occasion, sometimes just because, but this time it was for a bridal shower dinner, a total of 6 of us, and we were once again impressed with the menu options, wine list, and service. Our table was ready on time and our waitress was attentive and helpful."

  • "We usually do the Early Bird Special, which is one of the best deals around. Food is consistently good, service is atttentive and the price is right!"

  • "Most of the entrees are very interesting combinations of ingredients. Appetizers are great also. However, I don't recommend the Prix Fixe menu. It's something you could get from a pub."

  • "Margaux's has been open more than 20 years in North Raleigh. I hadn't been in probably 15 years, but was pleasantly surprised to nab a table for 2 on a rainy Friday night with 30 minutes notice. The triggerfish special was very nice, and the wine list was more than abundant. Our server was on her game, got the orders right, and handled my request to pay with a combo of gift card and cash discreetly. The place was a little on the noisy side, but not as bad as some places I've dined in recently."

  • "My wife and I dine here more regularly than anywhere else, due mostly to the three course meal for $20 (before 6:30pm weekdays or all night Monday). I've yet to eat anything there that I didn't love, and their profiteroles are to die for, IMO. This review is for our last visit for my wife's 33rd birthday. We had a party of 9 and service was great. Courses came out in perfect order. The manager and male bartender are particularly nice and care a lot about customer service. If you're looking for a date night out for 5 star food and atmosphere at a reasonable price, this is the place to go. It's also worth mentioning that this is one of the few places I don't mind paying $10 for a mixed drink, because they actually know how to make them."

  • "Margaux has been around now for quite sometime, and its starting to show. The decor is the same as it has been for years and the fish tank which is on display in one of the walls is depressing. There are 12 fish in the tank, no corral or plants and the fish look like minnows. The massive fireplace that is in the dining room was not lit and the outside of it was covered in ash. The menu offers a wide variety of items, and all of them VERY expensive. A filet steak for $45.00 is standard fare at Margaux. If you plan on a dinner for two, with two drinks each, it will cost well over $100.00!!!!"

  • "We had a great time at Margaux's for girls night out. The food was great and the service was wonderful. We would go back again!"

  • "Service was excellent, and the Monday night special Prix Fixe menu was a great deal for the money. My husband had the duckling, which the server said had been on the menu forever because of its popularity. The rest of the menu changes daily. Our server was able to recommend an excellent wine and all of the food was delicious. The environment was quirky and cool but not distracting. We'll definitely go again."

  • "Bread was great......and taste of sauce on pork was very interesting. A glass of wine was a tad pricy at $11."

  • "Visited during restaurant week. $27.95 Pre-Fixe menu. Steak tar-tar appetizer was tasty. Scallops & sweet potatoes were very good. Apple Pie bread pudding dessert was best part of the meal. Our waitress was great--however there was a member of the staff who continuously paced by our table every 90 seconds. He must have passed by at least 25 times and the place was empty. It was unbelievably annoying lol."

  • "It is very refreshing to find a restaurant where you lose the fact that you are eating in a strip mall. The ambiance of Margaux's makes you forget there is a parking lot & other shops right out the door. The food is delicious & the decor eclectic and interesting."

  • "I'd rate the food good but not as great as I remember. They advertised a great fixed "Restaurant Week" menu but presented a different one once I was there."

  • "We went as a part of restaurant week but were happy to learn that they have a fixed price menu that lowers the cost of eating there significantly. The food on the list wasn't the bottom choices, either, which we were pleased about. Overall, very delicious."

  • "We went on Monday to kick off the Triangle's Restaurant week, and Margaux's did not disappoint. This was our first time there, and the decor is unique yet not over the top, creating a pleasant atmosphere. The food is outstanding and the service was top notch; our server (Hunter) was very knowledgeable about the menu. Our only qualm was that we had researched the menu beforehand but came to find out that the menu online was not what was being served at the restaurant. Lots of seafood on the menu that changes weekly, so I suggest trying something new anyway! Finally, there's a special menu for Monday evenings that provides a 3-course meal for $19.99. This is all year, so definitely recommended!"

  • "Margaux's is a lovely neighborhood restaurant with a creative menu. At lunch the day we recently went, I thought it was slipping just a bit. Service was good but the first waitperson was less attentive; they seemed to switch off and the second was better. I ordered a luncheon entree of salmon with mashed potatoes, sauteed spinach and a touch of beurre blanc; the spinach and buerre blanc were excellent; the salmon was ordinary."

  • "We went on a busy Sat night and thoroughly enjoyed the food and service. The menu is impressive with an interesting and huge variety of starters and fish dishes. Our first and last impression, however, was the overwhelming noise. It definitely distracted from our overall experience. I'll give it another try for lunch or weekday supper."

  • "The hospitable management, great menu with a variety of cuisine, the unique interior and pleasant and professional staff. It is a bit pricey so save it for a special occasion if you are on a limited budget. They do offer a three course prefix meal that is a great option if you are in a budget. Don't let the fact that is in a street mall keep you await from it. They are the best restaurant in the area."

  • "After living on the coast most of my life, moving inland was a change. I miss the seafood. This place has some of the best I have ever had in my life. Highly recommend!!!"

  • "I don't get to come to Raleigh often, but I try to hit my favorites when I'm there and Margaux's is one of them. I took some friends who had recently moved nearby and had been bragging about the restaurant all night. I was a little annoyed to be seated at what I would consider a bad table, at the bottom of the stairs where other diners were brushing by us and right in the way of the kitchen, so we asked to be moved to a booth, which they quickly accommodated us. From there things went as they should, the food was great and so was our service. Most of us enjoyed items off the prix fixe menu, which gives you a chance to taste more of the large menu. I will be back again and so will my friends."

  • "Not vegeterian friendy, no vegetarian option in the prix fixe menu (and no way to alter the menu to accommodate for this). Was placed next to a very loud and rude table of 6 (and also next to a waiter's cabinet). The food was alright (but the onion soup was burnt in the bottom). The first course in the prix fixe was tiny, just like the desert. The main course was ok. The waitress seemed to be in a constant hurry."

  • "Margaux's Restaurant is in my neighborhood and a personal favorite for dependable menu of melt in your mouth entrees. I believe I have tasted all of the entrees over the years of dining there--my own favorite is the salmon with mashed potatoes and spinach."

  • "If you are looking for the total eclectic, delicious experience, Margaux's is the place. The meal alone would be enough for anyone, but the atmosphere is perfect. I felt like I stepped out of the corporate mundane of repeating strip malls and into a cozy corner of New York, or Chicago, Philadelphia, or any energized cultural center. The service was pristine. Prompt, friendly, not over imposing. I dined on the Lamb, perfectly prepared Medium Rare, my date discovered one of the best swordfish she had ever tasted. This is the total package."

  • "Margaux "early bird" is clearly the best deal in town. The course dinner - with a wide variety of excellent choices - at a very reasonable price. Food and service outstanding."

  • "This is not a French restaurant. I had a good entree and a very tough steak. Place looked like a bar and grill. Spent almost $100 on overpriced, mediocre food."

  • "My husband and I used to eat at Margaux's when they first opened years ago. We'd go for special occasions. After many many years living away from Raleigh my sister and I decided we'd try this restaurant again. We were not disappointed. The service was very attentive . Our meals were as delicious as we remembered them being years ago. There were several Christmas parties taking place at Margaux's that night so the noise level was quite loud. The atmosphere has changed to more of a neighborhood gathering spot than a quiet place for a special evening but we enjoyed the energy of the evening anyway."

  • "The food was very good. The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely. The servers and owner were somewhat cold and not welcoming. I have dined there on many occasions and not gotten this feeling. The quality and variety of offerings would be enough for me to return."
